Emergent Influence Networks in Good-Faith Online Discussions
Town hall-type debates are increasingly moving online, irrevocably
transforming public discourse. Yet, we know relatively little about crucial
social dynamics that determine which arguments are more likely to be
successful. This study investigates the impact of one's position in the
discussion network created via responses to others' arguments on one's
persuasiveness in unfacilitated online debates. We propose a novel framework
for measuring the impact of network position on persuasiveness, using a
combination of social network analysis and machine learning. Complementing
existing studies investigating the effect of linguistic aspects on
persuasiveness, we show that the user's position in a discussion network
influences their persuasiveness online. Moreover, the recognition of successful
persuasion further increases this dominant network position. Our findings offer
important insights into the complex social dynamics of online discourse and
provide practical insights for organizations and individuals seeking to
understand the interplay between influential positions in a discussion network
and persuasive strategies in digital spaces

Fundamental Limits of Network Communication with General Message Sets: A Combinatorial Approach
The classical theoretical framework for communication networks is based on the simplifying assumption that each message to be sent is known to a single transmitter and intended for a single receiver. Modern communication protocols reflect this framework by treating the physical layer as a network of individual links. However, this wireline view of wireless communications fails to account for the heterogeneous nature of network demands, consisting of both unicast and multicast services, and can fail to leverage the inherent broadcast advantage of the wireless medium.
This thesis extends the classical framework of a private-message interface to the physical layer to one with both private and common messages. A key difficulty, in both the description and analysis of a communication model with general messages sets, is that there are combinatorially many message possibilities. With order-theoretic language and tools from combinatorial optimization and graphical models, we develop a general framework for characterizing the fundamental limits of information transfer over large many-to-one (multiple access) and one-to-many (broadcast) communication channels with general message sets. In particular, achievable regions are proposed for arbitrary such channels. For the multiple-access channel, the achievable region is optimal, and the order-theoretic perspective both unifies and extends previous results. For the broadcast channel, the region is specialized to an inner bound to the Degree of Freedom region, a setting where it is provably optimal in select cases.
This thesis provides fresh insights into the long-standing random coding technique of superposition coding to arrive at these results. Governing constraints on reliable communication through superposition coding are shown to be polymatroidal over a lattice of subsets that may not be the boolean lattice of all subsets. Permissible input distributions for superposition coding are concisely characterized through directed graphical models of conditional dependencies. The two-user interference channel is also addressed, where the state-of-the art is extended from the case with two private messages to one with an additional common message
English is a language that has gained a lot of strength over the years, being a fundamental part of the academic processes of both educational and public institutions, allowing students to acquire communication skills which are developed according to the requirements of each institutional educational project. In this order of ideas, in this research we will be able to find information related to the type of strategy that is intended to be implemented and continued to be exercised according to the results obtained in the state tests since through this type of activities which consist of answering questions. with Multiple response options and exercises with texts in which the student learns to identify by paragraphs the main ideas of the text are socialized in class as well as spaces are created to reinforce grammatical topics seen in previous years but that have an impact on this type of tests that We can achieve in the students those skills of deduction, identification and analysis reflected in the contents that they can find in the state tests, in this way it is possible for the students to expand their vocabulary and the results obtained were positive in the exercise developed, this being a adequate proposal from its implementation through each space used in said process
Topographic data collection system for the construction of contour lines using Global Positioning System
The construction of contour lines is a daily activity for topography, civil engineering and architecture, with these plans a survey of the information of the earth's surface is carried out. For this process, theodolites are used, which manually go through a determined surface and take the different heights against a reference point. The introduction of electronic systems for data collection would allow this process to be carried out more quickly and efficiently. For this reason, the development of a topographic data collection system that allows the construction of contour lines from a GPS receiver module is proposed. To achieve this goal, an experimental investigation was carried out that includes the theoretical review, followed by the design, the construction of the model, and the construction of the prototype with a validation of the results using descriptive statistics. In this way, a device capable of carrying out the survey of the topographic information necessary for the construction of the contour lines was obtained with a fairly low error in the shots. The information from the global positioning system was obtained in NMEA0183 format from which the specific data necessary to store it was extracted and then delivered to the various software that is normally used for the construction of contour lines.
A rare natural lipid induces neuroglobin expression to prevent amyloid oligomers toxicity and retinal neurodegeneration
Most neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease are proteinopathies linked to the toxicity of amyloid oligomers. Treatments to delay or cure these diseases are lacking. Using budding yeast, we report that the natural lipid tripentadecanoin induces expression of the nitric oxide oxidoreductase Yhb1 to prevent the formation of protein aggregates during aging and extends replicative lifespan. In mammals, tripentadecanoin induces expression of the Yhb1 orthologue, neuroglobin, to protect neurons against amyloid toxicity. Tripentadecanoin also rescues photoreceptors in a mouse model of retinal degeneration and retinal ganglion cells in a Rhesus monkey model of optic atrophy. Together, we propose that tripentadecanoin affects p-bodies to induce neuroglobin expression and offers a potential treatment for proteinopathies and retinal neurodegeneration.Peer reviewe
