Understanding the Anti-Tumor Properties Mediated by the Synthetic Peptide GK-1

Cancer exhibits adaptive features typical of complex systems, like resilience and robustness to environmental challenges through the emergent co-evolution of its components. These events promote carcinogenesis through dynamic interactions among numerous components and subsystems, including the immune system. During the past decade, our research group has provided substantial evidence that the peptide GK-1 has important immunomodulatory properties. In elderly mice, GK-1 acts as a potent adjuvant of the influenza vaccine through a mechanism that involves the activation of antigen-presenting cells (APCs) and an increased production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines (IFN-γ, TNFα, CCL2). To date, there is solid evidence supporting the antitumoral properties of GK-1 in murine cancer models. First, a lower occurrence and smaller size of spontaneous bronchiolar adenomas were found in elderly GK-1-treated mice compared to paired untreated mice. In two independent studies, GK-1 treatment reduced tumor growth and increased mouse survival in a murine model of melanoma and breast tumor. In the former model, a synergy between GK-1 and anti-PD-L1 treatment was observed, while in the latter, GK-1 alone controlled the metastatic burden. The effective activation of APCs induced by GK-1, restoring the antitumor-specific immunity, may underlie some of its antineoplastic effects

Multitemporal analysis using landsat images to determine the loss of productive capacity in the middle basin of the magdalena river

La presente investigación muestra los resultados de un análisis multitemporal de la cuenca media del Río Magdalena para determinar el impacto que ha tenido la intervención humana en la transformación del paisaje y cómo esto ha debilitado la capacidad productiva del suelo en dicha zona. Por medio de imágenes Landsat tomadas en los años 1998, 2007 y 2020 se realiza una comparativa del cambio en las coberturas de la cuenca media del Río Magdalena y se determina el área de las coberturas presentes en la zona que han sido afectadas con el paso del tiempo, para ello se realiza una clasificación supervisada en el área de estudio. Se presenta la clasificación de coberturas durante los periodos analizados. Este análisis llevó a la conclusión de que los asentamientos urbanos transformaron el paisaje, no solo por el crecimiento de las zonas urbanas, agrícolas y mineras y la producción de zonas ganaderas, sino por la tala indiscriminada de bosque nativo.Resumen Introducción Materiales y Métodos Resultados y Discusiones Conclusiones Referencias BibliográficasThis research shows the results of a multitemporal analysis of the middle basin of the Magdalena River to determine the impact that human intervention has had on the transformation of the landscape and how this has weakened the productive capacity of the soil in that area. El presente trabajo de investigación pretende determinar el alcance y los limitantes de las acciones generadas por el sector humanitario en Cúcuta (organismos de cooperación internacional y ONG), a través de los diferentes programas y proyectos que han desarrollado en atención a la crisis migratoria venezolana registrada desde el año 2015 y que sigue presentándose actualmente, para así analizar en qué medida dichas respuestas han contribuido a la inserción de los ciudadanos venezolanos en el mercado laboral de la ciudad y su sostenibilidad en el tiempo, teniendo en cuenta la falta de políticas públicas generadas por el gobierno local para atender este fenómeno.This research work aims to determine the scope and limitations of the actions generated by the humanitarian sector in Cúcuta (international cooperation agencies and NGOs), through the different programs and projects they have developed in response to the Venezuelan migrant crisis registered since 2015 and which is still being presented, in order to analyze to what extent these responses have contributed to the insertion of Venezuelan citizens in the city's labor market and its sustainability over time, taking into account the lack of public policies generated by the local government to address this phenomenon.Politólogo (a)Pregrad

Relación entre las emociones morales y el comportamiento psicopático

Esta investigación llevó a cabo una revisión de cinco artículos científicos relacionados con las emociones morales y el comportamiento psicopático. Inicialmente, se hizo una revisión del concepto de psicopatía desde las perspectivas: psiquiátrica, sociológica, criminológica y psicológica, además de las categorías nosológicas y los aspectos neurobiológicos que desencadenan la conducta psicopática. Las emociones morales se trabajaron desde el punto de vista de la neuropsicología. Luego de esto, se intento establecer la relación entre las emociones morales y el comportamiento psicopático, de acuerdo con los planteamientos de cada uno de los artículos revisados. A partir de la metodología bibliométrica, se encontraron los siguientes resultados: existe un vacío al momento de establecer conexiones entre emociones morales y psicopatía, ya que cada uno de los conceptos ha sido estudiado por separado. Sin embargo, se evidencian relaciones en cuanto a sus bases neurobiológicas, en la medida en que las estructuras cerebrales como la amígdala, el tálamo, la corteza prefrontal, la corteza orbitofrontal medial y la corteza dorsolateral se encuentran implicadas en el procesamiento de emociones morales y presentan cierta alteración en los individuos que padecen Trastorno Antisocial de la Personalidad, impidiendo el reconocimiento adecuado del componente moral y la realización de juicios morales.This investigation is grounded on the review of 5 scientific articles regarding moral emotion and psychopathic behaviour. The transactional comparison started with the fragmentation of the concept of psychopathy through the perspectives of psychiatry, sociology, criminalistics and psychology. Furthermore, disease categories and neurobiological traits were considered as triggers of psychopathic conducts. Moral emotions where approached from the neuropsychological point of view. Moreover and following the analysis of the academic journals selected, the relationship between moral emotions and psychopathic behaviour is stated. From the literature review, limitations appear due to a gap when establishing connections between moral emotions and psychopathy, due to the independent study of each concept. However results are uncovered when relationships on neurological bases are analysed. For instance, the amygdala, the thalamus, the frontal cortex, the orbitofrontal cortex and the dorsolateral cortex appear to be engaged when processing moral emotions. El campo del currículum, en tanto es un espacio conceptual bien armado y clarificador, orienta la integración curricular de las TIC, y más allá de planteamientos instructivos, supera objetivos y procesos educativos claramente instrumentales en la utilización de los recursos tecnológicos. De otra parte, el desarrollo de las TIC vuelve a dar al texto un protagonismo renovado, configurándose unas nuevas formas de socialización a través de las recientes formas de lectoescritura que permiten expresar y comunicar experiencias de forma globalizada: la palabra hablada, escrita, con sonidos e imágenes. Influence of Cardiorespiratory Clinical Placements on the Specialty Interest of Physiotherapy Students

Clinical placements are an important part of health students’ training. Whilst much value is placed on the clinical environment as a place to learn, there is a paucity of direct evidence about its effectiveness. The aim of this study was to compare the competence, importance, and interest in cardiorespiratory physiotherapy of students before and after one month of clinical practice. A preand post-placement questionnaire about students’ interest in different physiotherapy subspecialties was used. The students with a cardiorespiratory clinical placement showed a significant change in their perception about the importance of the cardiorespiratory specialty (0.348 1.01; p < 0.001), while no significant change was observed in the students without cardiorespiratory placement (-0.014 0.825; p = 0.883). The presence or absence of clinical placements seems to have a definitive impact on students’ choice of a specialty. This implies the need for developing a set of clinical placements in all the subareas of physiotherapy in order to give undergraduate students the opportunity to make a better decision
