Higgs pair production in vector-boson fusion at the LHC and beyond

The production of pairs of Higgs bosons at hadron colliders provides unique information on the Higgs sector and on the mechanism underlying electroweak symmetry breaking (EWSB). Most studies have concentrated on the gluon fusion production mode which has the largest cross section. However, despite its small production rate, the vector-boson fusion channel can also be relevant since even small modifications of the Higgs couplings to vector bosons induce a striking increase of the cross section as a function of the invariant mass of the Higgs boson pair. In this work, we exploit this unique signature to propose a strategy to extract the $hhVV$ quartic coupling and provide model-independent constraints on theories where EWSB is driven by new strong interactions. We take advantage of the higher signal yield of the $b\bar b b\bar b$ final state and make extensive use of jet substructure techniques to reconstruct signal events with a boosted topology, characteristic of large partonic energies, where each Higgs boson decays to a single collimated jet . Our results demonstrate that the $hhVV$ coupling can be measured with 45% (20%) precision at the LHC for $\mathcal{L}=$ 300 (3000) fb$^{-1}$, while a 1% precision can be achieved at a 100 TeV collider.Comment: Updated to match published version in EPJC and fixed typo in Tab. 10 (column labels a & b were swapped

Distance matrices on the H-join of graphs: A general result and applications

Given a graph $H$ with vertices $1,\ldots ,s$ and a set of pairwise vertex disjoint graphs $G_{1},\ldots ,G_{s},$ the vertex $i$ of $H$ is assigned to $G_{i}.$ Let $G$ be the graph obtained from the graphs $G_{1},\ldots ,G_{s}$ and the edges connecting each vertex of $G_{i}$ with all the vertices of $G_{j}$ for all edge $ij$ of $H.$ The graph $G$ is called the $H-join$ of $G_1,\ldots,G_s$. Let $M(G)$ be a matrix on a graph $G$. A general result on the eigenvalues of $M\left( G\right)$, when the all ones vector is an eigenvector of $M\left( G_{i}\right)$ for $i=1,2,\ldots ,s$, is given. This result is applied to obtain the distance eigenvalues, the distance Laplacian eigenvalues and as well as the distance signless Laplacian eigenvalues of $G$ when $G_{1},\ldots ,G_{s}$ are regular graphs. Finally, we introduce the notions of the distance incidence energy and distance Laplacian-energy like of a graph and we derive sharp lower bounds on these two distance energies among all the connected graphs of prescribed order in terms of the vertex connectivity. Con el aprendizaje de una lengua extranjera no solo se adquiere una nueva lengua, sino que al mismo tiempo se llega a conocer una nueva forma de interpretar y concebir el mundo en el que vivimos. Por tanto el aprendizaje de una lengua extranjera es también buscar el acceso a otra cultura. El Marco Común Europeo de Referencia para las Lenguas, aprobado por el Consejo de Europa en 2001, concede un lugar privilegiado a las habilidades comunicativas e interculturales en el trabajo con los alumnos de una lengua extranjera. Se habla de la adquisición de una lengua para comunicarse de acuerdo con las normas socio-culturales de la comunidad de hablantes de dicha lengua. Los alumnos, a través de la lengua, han de ser conscientes de las similitudes y diferencias entre su propia cultura y la extranjera. Corrida de rua e política pública : um estudo a partir das ações do poder público municipal de Curitiba - PR

Tal fato entra em conflito com a Constituição Federal de 1988, em que o esporte e o lazer são tratados como um direito social do cidadão brasileiro. Pensando na atuação do Estado como uma potencial interferência nesse espaço social, por meio de suas ações, ou seja, das políticas públicas para o esporte e lazer, o poder público pode agir transformando ou mantendo as estruturas e leis do campo da modalidade. Diante disso, temos como objetivo analisar as ações do poder público municipal do esporte e lazer da cidade de Curitiba - PR em relação ao universo da corrida de rua. Como estudo de natureza qualitativa, utilizamos a pesquisa documental para atender ao objetivo proposto. Como resultados, diagnosticamos seis diferentes ações desenvolvidas pelo poder público municipal em relação às corridas de rua, sendo elas divididas em impactos diretos e impactos indiretos. Acreditamos que as ações sejam elementos que atuam e desenham o cenário das corridas de rua em Curitiba, podendo atenuar as discrepâncias entre o número de praticantes de diferentes classes e setores sociais. Em acordo com as propostas estabelecidas pela SMELJ em sua missão, as ações, aparentemente, têm cumprido o papel de fomentar a prática esportiva em suas diversas dimensões. Por fim, consideramos válido que aja estudos futuros que se dediquem a aprofundar as reflexões em cada uma dessas ações individualmente, podendo assim compreender o processo político e seus impactos sociais no universo das corridas de rua de Curitiba. Palavras chaves: Corrida de rua; Esporte; Lazer; Política Pública.Abstract: The present study does a reading of the running as a social phenomenon in evidence in the national sports scene, but with notes from the academic literature that gives indications for a possible exclusion of practitioners. A fact that conflicts with the Federal Constitution of 1988, in which sports and leisure are treated as a social right of the Brazilian citizen. Thinking about the State performance as a potential interference in this social space, through their actions, in other words, of public policies for sport and leisure, public power can act by transforming or maintaining the structures and laws of the modality field. In view of this, this study aim to analyze the actions of the municipal public power of sport and leisure of the city of Curitiba - PR. in relation to the universe of the running. As a qualitative study, documentary research was used to meet the proposed objective. As a result, were diagnosed six different actions developed by the municipal public power related to runnings. These are divided into three direct impacts and three indirect impacts. We believe that actions are elements that act and design the scenario of runnings in Curitiba, and they can attenuate the discrepancies between the number of practitioners from different classes and social sectors. In agreement with the proposals established by the SMELJ in its mission, the actions, apparently, have fulfilled the role of fomenting the sports practice in its diverse dimensions. Finally, we consider valid future studies that are dedicated to deepen the reflections in each one of these actions individually, being able to understand the political process and its social impacts in the universe of runnings in Curitiba. Estudio de manifestaciones patológicas en materiales de construcción aplicado a tres tipologías de edificios

[ES] Este Trabajo Fin de Grado pretende realizar un estudio de las manifestaciones patológicas de los principales materiales de construcción y exponer la forma cómo solucionarlas. Se utilizan tres ejemplos completamente distintos; como son: una vivienda unifamiliar con forjado de hormigón, un edificio de viviendas con estructura de madera y un edificio singular. Los materiales que se estudian en estos ejemplos constructivos son: hormigón, ladrillo, piedra y madera; materiales con características físicas y mecánicas muy diferentes. Principalmente los problemas de estos materiales son debidos a una defectuosa calidad, un mal uso o un mal mantenimiento. Cada uno de los ejemplos dispone de varias manifestaciones patológicas: de cimentación, de estructura, de humedades, de asentamientos del terreno, de defectuosa ejecución o conservación.[EN] This Bachelor's Thesis shows three case studies on building failures of different construction materials, including: concrete, bricks, wood and building stones. A detailed examination of three different types of buildings is made. Colour model analysis for microscopic image processing

This article presents a comparative study between different colour models (RGB, HSI and CIEL*a*b*) applied to a very large microscopic image analysis. Such analysis of different colour models is needed in order to carry out a successful detection and therefore a classification of different regions of interest (ROIs) within the image. This, in turn, allows both distinguishing possible ROIs and retrieving their proper colour for further ROI analysis. This analysis is not commonly done in many biomedical applications that deal with colour images. Other important aspects is the computational cost of the different processing algorithms according to the colour model. This work takes these aspects into consideration to choose the best colour model tailored to the microscopic stain and tissue type under consideration and to obtain a successful processing of the histological image

Analysis of the profile of the runners and events of running of the city of Curitiba-PR

As corridas de rua estão cada vez mais em evidência no cenário esportivo brasileiro e diversos fatores os motivam a pratica desta modalidade. Este artigo tem o objetivo de analisar o perfil dos corredores e dos eventos de corrida de rua na cidade de Curitiba-PR. Foram utilizados como fontes planilhas de controle interno, relatórios e calendário oficial fornecidos pela Secretaria Municipal de Esporte, Lazer e Juventude (SMELJ). Os resultados demonstraram que a grande maioria dos corredores do circuito de corridas de rua de Curitiba é do sexo masculino, com predominância de idade entre 30 e 50 anos, foi possível ainda observar uma queda significativa na participação dos indivíduos cadeirantes e deficientes visuais nas corridas de rua de Curitiba. Concluímos que os dados encontrados nesse estudo apontam para características que sugerem a corrida de rua como sendo uma modalidade com praticantes com melhores condições financeiras e eventos denominados como corridas fashion.Running events are increasingly evident in the Brazilian sports scene and several factors motivate people to practice it. This article aims to analyze the profile of the runners and running events in the city of Curitiba-PR. Internal control spreadsheets, reports and official calendar provided by the Municipal Secretariat of Sports, Leisure and Youth (SMELJ) were used as sources. The results showed that the great majority of the runners of Curitiba's running circuit are male, predominately between 30 and 50 years old. Moreover, it was possible to observe a significant decrease in the participation of wheelchair and visually impaired individuals in the running of Curitiba. We conclude that the data found in the study point to characteristics that suggest that running has practitioners with good economic position and its events are known as fashion running.Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educació
