Interactive mixture of inhomogeneous dark fluids driven by dark energy: a dynamical systems analysis
We examine the evolution of an inhomogeneous mixture of non-relativistic
pressureless cold dark matter (CDM), coupled to dark energy (DE) characterised
by the equation of state parameter , with the interaction term
proportional to the DE density. This coupled mixture is the source of a
spherically symmetric Lema\^\ itre-Tolman-Bondi (LTB) metric admitting an
asymptotic Friedman-Lema\^\ itre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) background. Einstein's
equations reduce to a 5-dimensional autonomous dynamical system involving
quasi--local variables related to suitable averages of covariant scalars and
their fluctuations. The phase space evolution around the critical points
(past/future attractors and five saddles) is examined in detail. For all
parameter values and both directions of energy flow (CDM to DE and DE to CDM)
the phase space trajectories are compatible with a physically plausible early
cosmic times behaviour near the past attractor. This result compares favourably
with mixtures with the interaction driven by the CDM density in which
conditions for a physically plausible past evolution are more restrictive.
Numerical examples are provided describing the evolution of an initial profile
that can be associated with idealised structure formation scenariosComment: 23 pages, IOP format, 8 figure
Exchange Rate Pass-Through into Import Prices: The Case of Chile
In this paper we estimate the exchange rate pass-through (ERPT) into disaggregated import price data at monthly frequency. We work with import prices both at the border and at the wholesale level, and our results are consistent with the idea of a high ERPT— complete in the long-run—which has not declined for both pricing levels. In the shortrun, however, wholesale prices seem to be less sensitive to exchange rate variations. This may indicate the existence of a pass-through less than perfect in the distribution chain from prices at the border to its wholesale counterpart. In addition, we find weak evidence of asymmetric pass-through from appreciations versus depreciations for the aggregate import indexes. Finally, we also explore if the high and not declining ERPT is given by the fact that Chilean imports are concentrated in products with such ERPT, and our results support the view that this is not the case.
The Political Economy of Exchange Rate Policy in Colombia
This paper looks into the political economy forces that helped shape exchange rate policy in Colombia since the early 1960s. As witnessed by the remarkable longevity of the managed crawl, Colombian exchange rate policies since 1967 did not take the form of major regime changes. Policy shifts came about through variations in the rate of crawl, varying degrees of administrative restrictions on capital flows and, on occasions, ad-hoc measures to generate multiple exchange rates.
S-AVE Semantic Active Vision Exploration and Mapping of Indoor Environments for Mobile Robots
Semantic mapping is fundamental to enable cognition and high-level planning in robotics. It is a difficult task due to generalization to different scenarios and sensory data types. Hence, most techniques do not obtain a rich and accurate semantic map of the environment and of the objects therein. To tackle this issue we present a novel approach that exploits active vision and drives environment exploration aiming at improving the quality of the semantic map
This senior Project had as main objective to improve the demand planning system of an Ecuadorian company dedicated to the distribution of pharmaceutical supplies. Currently, this company uses one sole model to forecast all their products and, considering that the model is actually a good one, using only one model, for all the products has some economical disadvantages such as increase of overstock cost, opportunity cost and transportation cost...El presente trabajo de titulación, tuvo como objetivo el mejorar el sistema de planificación de la demanda de una empresa ecuatoriana de distribución de insumos farmacéuticos.
Shallot virus X: a hardly known pathogen of the genus Allium
Crops belonging to the genus Allium, family Amaryllidaceae, are economically important and are widely cultivated around the globe. Some of the most problematic diseases of these crops are caused by members of three virus genera, Potyvirus, Carlavirus and Allexivirus. Shallot virus X (ShVX) is an Allexivirus that was first discovered in Russia in the nineties and it has since been described worldwide. The virus, transmitted mechanically or by the dry bulb mite (Aceria tulipae), affects virtually all members of the genus Allium and it causes yield reductions on these crops. ShVX is a positive-sense single-stranded monopartite RNA virus that contains six open reading frames (ORFs). The virus is mainly detected by RT-PCR but there are other serological and molecular techniques available for diagnosis. There are no methods described for managing crops infected by ShVX in the field, but tissue culture of meristems can render virus-free plants. Research on the ShVX-Allium pathosystem is needed for a comprehensive understanding of the physiological and molecular mechanisms used by the virus to infect its hosts and for developing methods for the effective control of viral infections.
No existen métodos
It´s Not My Money: An Experiment on Risk Aversion and the House-money Effect
The house-money effect -people´s tendency to be more daring with easily-gotten money- is abehavioral pattern that poses questions about the external validity of experiments in economics: to what extent do people behave in experiments like they would have in a real-life situation, given that they play with easily-gotten house money? We ran an economic experiment with 66 students to measure the house-money effect on their risk preferences. They received an amount of money with which they made risky decisions involving losses and gains; a treatment group got the money 21 days in advance and a control group got it the day of the experiment. We find that, when facing possible losses, people in the treatment group showed a lower tolerance to risk than people in the control group. If the players are assumed to have a CRRA utility function and to behave according to expected-utility theory, the risk-attitude adjustment corresponds to an average increase of 1 in their risk aversion coefficient. While the exact pattern of this house-money adjustment differs by gender, it is not possible to determine the sign of this gender effect unambiguously. In any case, it is advisable to include credible controls for the house-money effect in experimental work in economics.House-money effect, risk aversion, prospect theory, economic experiment, external validity.
