    Get PDF
Para além de se  conseguir responder, com esta investigação, ao tipo de conteúdos  fundamentais neste tipo de estratégia, é ainda possível criar bases  importantes para a criação de projetos desta natureza no futuro, tais como  um levantamento de possíveis conteúdos a serem criados e uma  planificação de uma estratégia transmedia storytelling focada na  comunicação turística de uma marca-municípioIn the digital age, in which the way the brands communicate become  crucial for the sale of a product or knowledge of a place, in an online  society, this dissertation is intended to investigate in detail the  transmedia storytelling strategies to use in tourism communication of a  brand-municipality. It was found that the indispensable content in this  type of strategies inserted in such a specific environment go through:  videos with a well-defined storytelling and an element that identifies the  place, content that interacts with the public and the inclusion of  experiences. It is based on the development and evaluation of Projeto  2130 Benavente carried out for the case in a study referring to the  municipality of Benavente. With a qualitative nature, the methodology  adopted for this dissertation develops through the conceptualization,  development and evaluation of the transmedia storytelling strategy  Projeto 2130 Benavente. The study concluded that there are certain  contents that result in a better way in this type of communication such as  the existence of a tourist video and the presence of an experimental  interaction. Transmedia also brings direct advantages to the  communication of the municipality due to characteristics such as the  participation of the tourist and the experience that offers to the user.   Besides being able to respond with this research to the type of fundamental content in this type of strategy, it is still possible to create important bases for the creation of projects of this nature in the future, such as a survey of possible contents to be created and a planning of a transmedia storytelling strategy focused on the tourist communication of a brand-municipalityMestrado em Comunicação Multimédi

This study’s aim was twofold: (i) to compare starters and non-starters on a professional soccer team in terms of variations in training intensity indexes across a season, calculated through total distance, sprint distance, accelerations (Acc), and decelerations (Dec) and (ii) to analyse the relationship between the intensity indexes for each playing status. Methods: Nineteen players (age, 29.4 ± 4.4 years; height, 1.8 ± 0.1 m; body mass, 74.8 ± 2.3 kg) were divided into starters and non-starters and followed for 43 weeks using global positioning systems. Results: Training intensity measures (acute:chronic workload ratio [ACWR], coupled and uncoupled) were higher during the latter stage of the season. Total distance peaked during the mid-season, whereas the highest value for exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) was recorded later in the season. Interestingly, the EMWA of total distance showed little variation during the season for players of both playing statuses. The EWMA of total distance showed a significant higher value for starters than non-starters (p = 0.036; g = 1.27 [0.31, 2.32]). The interruption in games between week 34 and week 35 due to COVID-19 moved some measures into the injury risk zone — namely, the ACWR coupled of sprint distance and Dec; the ACWR uncoupled of total distance, sprint distance, Acc, Dec; and the EWMA of sprint distance, Acc and Dec. Conclusions: The highest training intensity measures were reported late in the season and were similar between starters and non-starters. Across the season, only one difference between starters and non-starters occurred, revealing that training intensity was properly managed throughout the season regardless of the status of the players.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Photosynthetic responses of corals Mussismilia harttii (Verrill, 1867) from turbid waters to changes in temperature and presence/absence of light

Responses of corals to climate change stresses are species and locality specific. As light is an important component of temperature-induced stresses, we experimentally tested the responses of a turbid water coral, Mussismilia harttii, to changes in temperature in the presence and absence of light. Chlorophyll fluorescence parameters were measured using a diving-PAM. Experiments were carried out at distinct temperatures. Polyps were kept in the dark or were continuously exposed to 300 µmol photons m-2.s-1 irradiance. No visible bleaching of coral samples was seen in temperatures between 26.5 and 35.0 ºC, but most polyps at higher temperatures showed signs of tissue necrosis. There was a reduction of Fv/Fm as temperature increased, with a further drop in the presence of light, indicating a synergistic effect of these factors. We suggest that the photodamage to M. harttii endosymbionts triggered by temperatures of 33.0 ºC and 35.0 ºC results from a decline of the repair process, as well as the effect of light on the PSII. Recovery data for polyps kept in 31.0 ºC showed that this temperature (depending on time of exposure) seems to be borderline; temperatures higher than 31.0 ºC lead to long-term damage or death of M. harttii

Publisher Copyright: © 2023 by the authors. The nickel–titanium (NiTi) instruments’ geometry plays an important role in their performance and behavior. The present assessment intends to validate and test the applicability of a 3D surface scanning method using a high-resolution laboratory-based optical scanner to create reliable virtual models of NiTi instruments. Sixteen instruments were scanned using a 12-megapixel optical 3D scanner, and methodological validation was performed by comparing quantitative and qualitative measurements of specific dimensions and identifying some geometric features of the 3D models with images obtained through scanning electron microscopy. Additionally, the reproducibility of the method was assessed by calculating 2D and 3D parameters of three different instruments twice. The quality of the 3D models created by two different optical scanners and a micro-CT device was compared. The 3D surface scanning method using the high-resolution laboratory-based optical scanner allowed for the creation of reliable and precise virtual models of different NiTi instruments with discrepancies varying from 0.0002 to 0.0182 mm. The reproducibility of measurements performed with this method was high, and the acquired virtual models were adequate for use in in silico experiments, as well as for commercial or educational purposes. The quality of the 3D model obtained using the high-resolution optical scanner was superior to that acquired by micro-CT technology. The ability to superimpose virtual models of scanned instruments and apply them in Finite Element Analysis and educational purposes was also demonstrated.publishersversionpublishe

Biosensors for On-Farm Diagnosis of Mastitis

    Get PDF
Bovine mastitis is an inflammation of the mammary gland caused by a multitude of pathogens with devastating consequences for the dairy industry. Global annual losses are estimated to be around €30 bn and are caused by significant milk losses, poor milk quality, culling of chronically infected animals, and occasional deaths. Moreover, mastitis management routinely implies the administration of antibiotics to treat and prevent the disease which poses serious risks regarding the emergence of antibiotic resistance. Conventional diagnostic methods based on somatic cell counts (SCC) and plate-culture techniques are accurate in identifying the disease, the respective infectious agents and antibiotic resistant phenotypes. However, pressure exists to develop less lengthy approaches, capable of providing on-site information concerning the infection, and in this way, guide, and hasten the most adequate treatment. Biosensors are analytical tools that convert the presence of biological compounds into an electric signal. Benefitting from high signal-to-noise ratios and fast response times, when properly tuned, they can detect the presence of specific cells and cell markers with high sensitivity. In combination with microfluidics, they provide the means for development of automated and portable diagnostic devices. Still, while biosensors are growing at a fast pace in human diagnostics, applications for the veterinary market, and specifically, for the diagnosis of mastitis remain limited. This review highlights current approaches for mastitis diagnosis and describes the latest outcomes in biosensors and lab-on-chip devices with the potential to become real alternatives to standard practices. Focus is given to those technologies that, in a near future, will enable for an on-farm diagnosis of mastitisinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

New Alternatives to Milk From Pulses: Chickpea and Lupin Beverages With Improved Digestibility and Potential Bioactivities for Human Health

    Get PDF
There is a strong demand for plant-based milk substitutes, often low in protein content (<1.5% w/v). Protein-rich pulse seeds and the right processing technologies make it possible to make relevant choices. The major objective of this study was to assess the impact of processing on the nutritional characteristics of beverages with a high impact on health, in particular on digestibility and specific bioactivities. The results suggest that pulse beverages are as high in protein content (3.24% w/v for chickpea and 4.05% w/v for lupin) as cow's milk. The anti-nutrient level characteristics of pulses have been considerably reduced by strategic processing. However, when present in small quantities, some of these anti-nutritional factors may have health benefits. Controlling processing conditions play a crucial role in this fine balance as a tool to take advantage of their health benefits. There is evidence of protein hydrolysis by in vitro digestion and limited bioaccessibility of minerals. In addition to being highly digestible, lupin and chickpea beverages have anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic potential evaluated through the inhibition of metalloproteinase MMP-9.This research was funded by the FCT Project PTDC/BAA-AGR/28370/2017: “Bebida de proteína vegetal a partir de leguminosas europeias com potencial bioativo” and also through the research unit UID/AGR/04129/2020 – LEAFinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
