Inter-Noise 2016, 45th International Congress and Exposition of Noise Control Engineering, HAMBOURG, ALLEMAGNE, 21-/08/2016 - 24/08/2016Noise is a major environmental issue, which gave birth in the last decades to the development of many engineering methods dedicated to both its estimation and mitigation. The specificity of the noise pollution problem lies in the complexity of human hearing and subjective assessment, and in the high spatiotemporal variation and rich spectral content of the noise generated by a wide variety of sources in urban context. Indicators that encompass all these dimensions are required for the description of sound environments and for the evaluation of noise mitigation strategies. This paper compares usual and more specific indicators, dedicated to environmental noise analyses, by means of a literature review. The comparison is based on the three following criteria: i) the ability of indicators to describe and physically categorize the urban sound environments, ii) the relevance of indicators for describing the perceptive appreciations of urban sound environments, iii) the ability of indicators to be estimated through classical or more advanced traffic noise estimation models. A discussion compares the pro and cons of the selected indicators in an operational scop

Thus, taken by the urgency sense, the systems development teams enter in a loop of urgent and endless maintenance. In the public sector, the changes becomes more slowly, but the challenges add up to a consolidated management during decades of non-automated work. The difficulties to deal with software maintenance in Brazil are similar to other countries, but there are scientific consensus that the application of agile methods can reduce or solve maintenance problems in public or private companies. The Goiás Court of Justice (TJGO) is an organ of the Brazilian Public Power that stands out for its jurisdictional provision that is supported by several technology tools. However, the lack of a well-defined software process, contributes to rework that could be avoided. In this context, the objective of this work was to define and evaluate the implementation of a software maintenance process for TJGO. The research methodology adopted is explanatory type, with the use of the Design Science Research (DSR) tech nique, that allows to drive the research by technologics artifacts that enable to transform situations, to change their conditions to more desirable states. The the results indicate that, because of TJGO peculiarities, it was necessary to work the maintenance aspects and to define a deployment architecture, and define a systematic process. According to the perception of involved stakeholders, it was possible to observe to be observed man agement improvements, teamwork improvements, organizational climate improvements, and more speed of deliveries

A port by any other name: a preliminary spatial analysis of ancient infrastructural landscapes and settlement organization at Macurany, Brazil

Complex human-environmental processes form identifiable, lasting features on the landscape that can illuminate past human behavior and human-environment interactions. We examine the anthropogenic landscape of the ancient port of Macurany, located along the middle Amazon River in Parintins, Brazil, and identify four classes of anthropogenic landscape features at the site: wharfs, middens, terra preta (dark or black earths), and cultural forests. Middens, terra preta, and cultural forests have been found at archaeological sites in regions surrounding Macurany, but wharfs have not previously been reported in Amazonian contexts predating European contact. Taken together, these features are clearly the result of anthropogenesis and represent a range of subsistence, settlement, and infrastructure-building activities pointing to an ancient society that was actively engaged in modifying the surrounding landscape for purposes beyond settlement and subsistence. Evidence for a permanent, extensive, continuously settled society practicing intensive landscape engineering in this region of Amazonia reinforces findings of dense habitation, infrastructure, and early urbanization in Amazonia prior to European contact. This research helps expand our understanding of human-environment interactions, landscape formation processes, and settlement organization in ancient Amazonia.University of Louisville to Anna T. On the magnetically driven ferroelectric phase in GdMnO3

At room temperature, GdMnO3 is a paraelectric and paramagnetic with a distorted perovskite structure of orthorhombic symmetry (space group Pnma). On cooling, it undergoes a phase transition sequence to a magnetic incommensurate phase (k=delta a*; Tc1=42K) and a A-type antiferromagnetic phase (Tc2=27K). At low temperatures (T<12K), a magnetic field applied along the a-axis destabilizes the antiferromagnetic phase and induces a first order transition to a magnetic commensurate modulated phase (delta=1/4) that is also ferroelectric (P//c). This work analyses this field induced phase transition from the point of view of the symmetry and Landau theory.Comment: 13 pages, communication to the 11th European Meeting on Ferroelectricity, Bled (Slovenia)2007; submitted to Ferroelectric

In this article we investigated the importance of the expectant affection hope for the multitude movement that started in 2013 in the city of Porto Alegre/RS. Our main goal is to investigate the manner in which hope motivated the protesters’ actions and structured the manifestations. This goal seeks to answer the following question: how did hope motivated the 2013 manifestations in the city of Porto Alegre? Our methodology is qualitative, in which we used the analysis of journalistic photographic records of the 2013 manifestations – collected on news websites. We found, from that, that hope had crystallized in the factual reality, motivating the protesters to act through iconoclastic and softs practices, made it possible for the acts to intensify after the police repressions, connected the protesters intersubjectively around utopian objects and caused the temporary transfer of the social front from the interior of the state to the streets of the city. Keywords: Hope.

Semiclassical Propagation of Wavepackets with Complex and Real Trajectories

    Get PDF
International audienceWe consider a semiclassical approximation, first derived by Heller and coworkers, for the time evolution of an originally Gaussian wave packet in terms of complex trajectories. We also derive additional approximations replacing the complex trajectories by real ones. These yield three different semiclassical formulae involving different real trajectories. One of these formulae is Heller's thawed Gaussian approximation. The other approximations are non-Gaussian and may involve several trajectories determined by mixed initial–final conditions. These different formulae are tested for the cases of scattering by a hard wall, scattering by an attractive Gaussian potential and bound motion in a quartic oscillator. The formula with complex trajectories gives good results in all cases. The non-Gaussian approximations with real trajectories work well in some cases, whereas the thawed Gaussian works only in very simple situations
