    Multidifferential study of identified charged hadron distributions in ZZ-tagged jets in proton-proton collisions at s=\sqrt{s}=13 TeV

    Jet fragmentation functions are measured for the first time in proton-proton collisions for charged pions, kaons, and protons within jets recoiling against a ZZ boson. The charged-hadron distributions are studied longitudinally and transversely to the jet direction for jets with transverse momentum 20 <pT<100< p_{\textrm{T}} < 100 GeV and in the pseudorapidity range 2.5<η<42.5 < \eta < 4. The data sample was collected with the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.64 fb1^{-1}. Triple differential distributions as a function of the hadron longitudinal momentum fraction, hadron transverse momentum, and jet transverse momentum are also measured for the first time. This helps constrain transverse-momentum-dependent fragmentation functions.     Study of the BΛc+ΛˉcKB^{-} \to \Lambda_{c}^{+} \bar{\Lambda}_{c}^{-} K^{-} decay

    The decay BΛc+ΛˉcKB^{-} \to \Lambda_{c}^{+} \bar{\Lambda}_{c}^{-} K^{-} is studied in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of s=13\sqrt{s}=13 TeV using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5 fb1\mathrm{fb}^{-1} collected by the LHCb experiment. In the Λc+K\Lambda_{c}^+ K^{-} system, the Ξc(2930)0\Xi_{c}(2930)^{0} state observed at the BaBar and Belle experiments is resolved into two narrower states, Ξc(2923)0\Xi_{c}(2923)^{0} and Ξc(2939)0\Xi_{c}(2939)^{0}, whose masses and widths are measured to be m(Ξc(2923)0)=2924.5±0.4±1.1MeV,m(Ξc(2939)0)=2938.5±0.9±2.3MeV,Γ(Ξc(2923)0)=0004.8±0.9±1.5MeV,Γ(Ξc(2939)0)=0011.0±1.9±7.5MeV, m(\Xi_{c}(2923)^{0}) = 2924.5 \pm 0.4 \pm 1.1 \,\mathrm{MeV}, \\ m(\Xi_{c}(2939)^{0}) = 2938.5 \pm 0.9 \pm 2.3 \,\mathrm{MeV}, \\ \Gamma(\Xi_{c}(2923)^{0}) = \phantom{000}4.8 \pm 0.9 \pm 1.5 \,\mathrm{MeV},\\ \Gamma(\Xi_{c}(2939)^{0}) = \phantom{00}11.0 \pm 1.9 \pm 7.5 \,\mathrm{MeV}, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The results are consistent with a previous LHCb measurement using a prompt Λc+K\Lambda_{c}^{+} K^{-} sample. Evidence of a new Ξc(2880)0\Xi_{c}(2880)^{0} state is found with a local significance of 3.8σ3.8\,\sigma, whose mass and width are measured to be 2881.8±3.1±8.5MeV2881.8 \pm 3.1 \pm 8.5\,\mathrm{MeV} and 12.4±5.3±5.8MeV12.4 \pm 5.3 \pm 5.8 \,\mathrm{MeV}, respectively. In addition, evidence of a new decay mode Ξc(2790)0Λc+K\Xi_{c}(2790)^{0} \to \Lambda_{c}^{+} K^{-} is found with a significance of 3.7σ3.7\,\sigma. The relative branching fraction of BΛc+ΛˉcKB^{-} \to \Lambda_{c}^{+} \bar{\Lambda}_{c}^{-} K^{-} with respect to the BD+DKB^{-} \to D^{+} D^{-} K^{-} decay is measured to be 2.36±0.11±0.22±0.252.36 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.22 \pm 0.25, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third originates from the branching fractions of charm hadron decays.Comment: All figures and tables, along with any supplementary material and additional information, are available at https://cern.ch/lhcbproject/Publications/p/LHCb-PAPER-2022-028.html (LHCb public pages

    Measurement of the ratios of branching fractions R(D)\mathcal{R}(D^{*}) and R(D0)\mathcal{R}(D^{0})

    The ratios of branching fractions R(D)B(BˉDτνˉτ)/B(BˉDμνˉμ)\mathcal{R}(D^{*})\equiv\mathcal{B}(\bar{B}\to D^{*}\tau^{-}\bar{\nu}_{\tau})/\mathcal{B}(\bar{B}\to D^{*}\mu^{-}\bar{\nu}_{\mu}) and R(D0)B(BD0τνˉτ)/B(BD0μνˉμ)\mathcal{R}(D^{0})\equiv\mathcal{B}(B^{-}\to D^{0}\tau^{-}\bar{\nu}_{\tau})/\mathcal{B}(B^{-}\to D^{0}\mu^{-}\bar{\nu}_{\mu}) are measured, assuming isospin symmetry, using a sample of proton-proton collision data corresponding to 3.0 fb1{ }^{-1} of integrated luminosity recorded by the LHCb experiment during 2011 and 2012. The tau lepton is identified in the decay mode τμντνˉμ\tau^{-}\to\mu^{-}\nu_{\tau}\bar{\nu}_{\mu}. The measured values are R(D)=0.281±0.018±0.024\mathcal{R}(D^{*})=0.281\pm0.018\pm0.024 and R(D0)=0.441±0.060±0.066\mathcal{R}(D^{0})=0.441\pm0.060\pm0.066, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The correlation between these measurements is ρ=0.43\rho=-0.43.     Exercise in lung Cancer, the healthcare providers opinion (E.C.H.O.):Results of the EORTC lung cancer Group (LCG) survey

    Objectives: Exercise has been reported to alleviate disease as well as treatment impact in patients with lung cancer. Nevertheless, there is limited information available regarding the perception of lung cancer dedicated healthcare professionals’ and their advice on exercise. Materials and Methods: An online survey exploring healthcare professionals’ practice patterns, perceptions, barriers, and facilitators of exercise in patients with lung cancer was conducted within members of the EORTC Lung Cancer Group (LCG). Results: One hundred forty-one healthcare providers completed the survey, mainly medical and radiation oncologists. Overall, 63% of the study participants declared that they frequently assessed exercise level in their patients, and 43% of them reinforced the importance of exercise. However, only 10% referred patients to an exercise program or specialist. Although the majority of the respondents had a positive perception regarding the benefits and safety of exercise (even in patients with advanced disease and/or bone metastasis), two-thirds of clinicians reported not having adequate training about exercise counselling. Moreover, 53% reported to lack of knowledge of guidelines referring to exercise in patients with cancer. Several obstacles and facilitators to improve exercise promotion in lung cancer care were identified. Conclusion: Healthcare providers recognize the relevance and feasibility of exercise as part of cancer treatment intervention, but specific pathways to do the referral are frequently missing. Future structured and well-designed strategies and initiatives are needed to support an effective referral in order to implement exercise interventions routinely in clinical practice

    Mutations in the &lt;i&gt;BRCA1&lt;/i&gt; gene substantially increase a woman's lifetime risk of breast cancer. However, there is great variation in this increase in risk with several genetic and non-genetic modifiers identified. The &lt;i&gt;BRCA1&lt;/i&gt; protein plays a central role in DNA repair, a mechanism that is particularly instrumental in safeguarding cells against tumorigenesis. We hypothesized that polymorphisms that alter the expression and/or function of &lt;i&gt;BRCA1&lt;/i&gt; carried on the wild-type (non-mutated) copy of the &lt;i&gt;BRCA1&lt;/i&gt; gene would modify the risk of breast cancer in carriers of &lt;i&gt;BRCA1&lt;/i&gt; mutations. A total of 9874 &lt;i&gt;BRCA1&lt;/i&gt; mutation carriers were available in the Consortium of Investigators of Modifiers of &lt;i&gt;BRCA1/2&lt;/i&gt; (CIMBA) for haplotype analyses of &lt;i&gt;BRCA1&lt;/i&gt;. Women carrying the rare allele of single nucleotide polymorphism rs16942 on the wild-type copy of &lt;i&gt;BRCA1&lt;/i&gt; were at decreased risk of breast cancer (hazard ratio 0.86, 95% confidence interval 0.77–0.95, &lt;i&gt;P&lt;/i&gt; = 0.003). Promoter &lt;i&gt;in vitro&lt;/i&gt; assays of the major &lt;i&gt;BRCA1&lt;/i&gt; haplotypes showed that common polymorphisms in the regulatory region alter its activity and that this effect may be attributed to the differential binding affinity of nuclear proteins. In conclusion, variants on the wild-type copy of &lt;i&gt;BRCA1&lt;/i&gt; modify risk of breast cancer among carriers of &lt;i&gt;BRCA1&lt;/i&gt; mutations, possibly by altering the efficiency of &lt;i&gt;BRCA1&lt;/i&gt; transcription

    International audienceThe branching fraction B(B0Dτ+ντ)\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to D^{*-}\tau^+\nu_{\tau}) is measured relative to that of the normalisation mode B0Dπ+ππ+B^0 \to D^{*-}\pi^+\pi^-\pi^+ using hadronic τ+π+ππ+(π0)νˉτ\tau^+ \to \pi^+\pi^-\pi^+(\pi^0)\bar{\nu}_{\tau} decays in proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2 fb1^{-1}. The measured ratio is B(B0Dτ+ντ)/B(B0Dπ+ππ+)=1.70±0.100.10+0.11\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to D^{*-}\tau^+\nu_{\tau})/\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to D^{*-}\pi^+\pi^-\pi^+)= 1.70 \pm 0.10^{+0.11}_{-0.10}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is related to systematic effects. Using established branching fractions for the B0Dπ+ππ+B^0 \to D^{*-}\pi^+\pi^-\pi^+ and B0Dμ+νμB^0 \to D^{*-} \mu^+\nu_\mu modes, the lepton universality test, R(D)B(B0Dτ+ντ)/B(B0Dμ+νμ)\mathcal{R}(D^{*-}) \equiv \mathcal{B}(B^0 \to D^{*-}\tau^+\nu_{\tau})/\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to D^{*-} \mu^+\nu_\mu) is calculated, R(D)=0.247±0.015±0.015±0.012, \mathcal{R}(D^{*-}) = 0.247 \pm 0.015 \pm 0.015 \pm 0.012\, , where the third uncertainty is due to the uncertainties on the external branching fractions. This result is consistent with the Standard Model prediction and with previous measurements

    Study of charmonium decays to KS0KπK^0_S K \pi in the B(KS0Kπ)KB \to (K^0_S K \pi) K channels

    International audienceA study of the B+KS0K+Kπ+B^+\to K^0_SK^+K^-\pi^+ and B+KS0K+K+πB^+\to K^0_SK^+K^+\pi^- decays is performed using proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV at the LHCb experiment. The KS0KπK^0_SK \pi invariant mass spectra from both decay modes reveal a rich content of charmonium resonances. New precise measurements of the ηc\eta_c and ηc(2S)\eta_c(2S) resonance parameters are performed and branching fraction measurements are obtained for B+B^+ decays to ηc\eta_c, J/ψJ/\psi, ηc(2S)\eta_c(2S) and χc1\chi_{c1} resonances. In particular, the first observation and branching fraction measurement of B+χc0K0π+B^+ \to \chi_{c0} K^0 \pi^+ is reported as well as first measurements of the B+K0K+Kπ+B^+\to K^0K^+K^-\pi^+ and B+K0K+K+πB^+\to K^0K^+K^+\pi^- branching fractions. Dalitz plot analyses of ηcKS0Kπ\eta_c \to K^0_SK\pi and ηc(2S)KS0Kπ\eta_c(2S) \to K^0_SK\pi decays are performed. A new measurement of the amplitude and phase of the KπK \piSS-wave as functions of the KπK \pi mass is performed, together with measurements of the K0(1430)K^*_0(1430), K0(1950)K^*_0(1950) and a0(1700)a_0(1700) parameters. Finally, the branching fractions of χc1\chi_{c1} decays to KK^* resonances are also measured

    International audienceA search for rare BDμ+μB \rightarrow D \mu^+ \mu^- decays is performed using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb1^{-1}. No significant signals are observed in the non-resonant μ+μ\mu^+\mu^- modes, and upper limits of B(B0D0μ+μ)<5.1×108\mathcal{B}(B^0 \rightarrow \overline{D}^0 \mu^+ \mu^-) < 5.1 \times 10^{-8}, B(B+Ds+μ+μ)<3.2×108\mathcal{B}(B^+ \rightarrow D_s^+ \mu^+ \mu^-) < 3.2 \times 10^{-8}, B(Bs0D0μ+μ)<1.6×107\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \rightarrow \overline{D}^0 \mu^+ \mu^-) < 1.6 \times 10^{-7} and fc/fuB(Bc+Ds+μ+μ)<9.6×108f_c/f_u \cdot \mathcal{B}(B_c^+ \rightarrow D_s^+ \mu^+ \mu^-) < 9.6 \times 10^{-8} are set at the 95% confidence level, where fcf_c and fuf_u are the fragmentation fractions of a BB meson with a cc and uu quark respectively in proton-proton collisions. Each result is either the first such measurement or an improvement by three orders of magnitude on an existing limit. Separate upper limits are calculated when the muon pair originates from a J/ψμ+μJ/\psi \rightarrow \mu^+ \mu^- decay. The branching fraction of Bc+Ds+J/ψB_c^+ \rightarrow D_s^+ J/\psi multiplied by the fragmentation-fraction ratio is measured to be fc/fuB(Bc+Ds+J/ψ)=(1.63±0.15±0.13)×105f_c/f_u \cdot \mathcal{B}(B_c^+ \rightarrow D_s^+ J/\psi ) = (1.63 \pm 0.15 \pm 0.13) \times 10^{-5}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic
