    Cuatro historias y un legado para inspirar a las futuras generaciones de educadores tuneros

    En la historia de la educación cubana, en cada localidad se ha destacado al menos un educador, en su labor profesional y en su actuar como patriota. Las historias que se presentan son resultado de las investigaciones realizadas por los estudiantes de las diferentes carreras de corte pedagógico que reciben la asignatura Historia de la Educación. Los docentes en formación se familiarizaron con la profesión y fomentaron un mayor amor hacia la misma. Comprendieron el valor social de las carreras pedagógicas y de su profesión, a través de la memoria viva, que contribuyó con una forma de apreciar las carreras pedagógicas e influyó en el modo de actuación al vincularse con los hechos, actividades educativas y la ejemplaridad de los educadores. Permitió ofrecer un modelo del educador, para estimular el vínculo de los docentes en formación con los modos de actuación en la escuela actual, desde el contexto local. El objetivo esencial de este trabajo es servir de estímulo para fortalecer su orientación profesional pedagógica. En el proceso investigativo se integraron los métodos de investigación histórica y los de investigación pedagógica. La búsqueda bibliográfica, la consulta que se realizó en las fuentes y los testimonios orales fueron fundamentales, se logró un mayor acercamiento a la ejemplaridad del magisterio cubano, y sobre todo en la vigencia del ideario pedagógico martiano.Palabras clave: Educadores, historia localidad, legado, magisterio

    Capacitación profesoral en la asignatura Morfofisiología III, carrera de Estomatología. Curso 2008-2009 / Teaching training in Morpho-physiology-III discipline. Dentistry major, 2008-2009

    Introducción: los profesores que imparten la disciplina curricular Morfofisiología, muestran debilidades en su proceso formativo, con vistas a garantizar la calidad que el proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje requiere. Objetivo: caracterizar a los profesores que imparten la asignatura Morfofisiología III en las SUM, teniendo en cuenta su preparación metodológica y conocimientos pedagógicos, que permita el diseño de una estrategia para su capacitación. Método: se realizó una investigación descriptiva y de corte transversal, con vistas a caracterizar el claustro profesoral que imparte la asignatura Morfofisiología III, de la carrera de Estomatología de la provincia de Pinar del Río, en las nueve SUM en las que la asignatura se encuentra universalizada, previo al comienzo del segundo semestre del curso 2008-2009. La muestra estuvo constituida por 12 de dichos profesores. Los datos fueron procesados utilizando la estadística descriptiva y la prueba Ji cuadrado. Resultados: estos mostraron que los profesores de la asignatura Morfofisiología III, en las SUM, carecen de la preparación metodológica y de los conocimientos en los contenidos propios de la asignatura, necesarios para enfrentar el proceso, elementos que se tuvieron en cuenta en el diseño del diplomado, el cual se estructuró siguiendo los principios de la educación a distancia. Se concluye a partir del diagnóstico realizado, sobre la necesidad de la instrumentación del diplomado diseñado.Palabras clave: Capacitación profesional, profesores, fisiologíaABSTRACTIntroduction: the teaching staff of Morpho-physiology discipline shows weak points in the formative process, to guarantee the quality of the teaching-learning process it is required.Objective: to characterize the teaching staff of Morpho-physiology -III in the University Venues, taking into account the methodological preparation and pedagogical knowledge, to allow the design of a strategy to their training.Method: a descriptive and cross-sectional research was conducted to characterize the teaching staff of Morpho-physiology -III discipline on the Dentistry Major, in the ninth University Venues, Pinar del Rio, previous to the beginning of the second term in 2008-2009 academic courses. The sample was comprised of 12 professors. Data were processed using descriptive statistics and chi square test. Results: professors of Morphology-III discipline in the University Venues show lack of methodological preparation and have not enough knowledge on the contents; so necessary to face the challenges of the teaching-learning process, elements considered in the design of the diploma course, which was structured following the principles of distance education. Based on the identification of the problem, the need to design a diploma course was established.Key words: Profesional training, faculty, physiology

    Mouse p53-deficient cancer models as platforms for obtaining genomic predictors of human cancer clinical outcomes

    Mutations in the TP53 gene are very common in human cancers, and are associated with poor clinical outcome. Transgenic mouse models lacking the Trp53 gene or that express mutant Trp53 transgenes produce tumours with malignant features in many organs. We previously showed the transcriptome of a p53-deficient mouse skin carcinoma model to be similar to those of human cancers with TP53 mutations and associated with poor clinical outcomes. This report shows that much of the 682-gene signature of this murine skin carcinoma transcriptome is also present in breast and lung cancer mouse models in which p53 is inhibited. Further, we report validated gene-expression-based tests for predicting the clinical outcome of human breast and lung adenocarcinoma. It was found that human patients with cancer could be stratified based on the similarity of their transcriptome with the mouse skin carcinoma 682-gene signature. The results also provide new targets for the treatment of p53-defective tumours

    Real‐world evidence of tisagenlecleucel for the treatment of relapsed or refractory large B‐cell lymphoma

    Tisagenlecleucel (tisa-cel) is a second-generation autologous CD19-targeted chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy approved for relapsed/refractory (R/R) large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL). The approval was based on the results of phase II JULIET trial, with a best overall response rate (ORR) and complete response (CR) rate in infused patients of 52% and 40%, respectively. We report outcomes with tisa-cel in the standard-of-care (SOC) setting for R/R LBCL. Data from all patients with R/R LBCL who underwent leukapheresis from December 2018 until June 2020 with the intent to receive SOC tisa-cel were retrospectively collected at 10 Spanish institutions. Toxicities were graded according to ASTCT criteria and responses were assessed as per Lugano 2014 classification. Of 91 patients who underwent leukapheresis, 75 (82%) received tisa-cel therapy. Grade 3 or higher cytokine release syndrome and neurotoxicity occurred in 5% and 1%, respectively; non-relapse mortality was 4%. Among the infused patients, best ORR and CR were 60% and 32%, respectively, with a median duration of response of 8.9 months. With a median follow-up of 14.1 months from CAR T-cell infusion, median progression-free survival and overall survival were 3 months and 10.7 months, respectively. At 12 months, patients in CR at first disease evaluation had a PFS of 87% and OS of 93%. Patients with an elevated lactate dehydrogenase showed a shorter PFS and OS on multivariate analysis. Treatment with tisa-cel for patients with relapsed/refractory LBCL in a European SOC setting showed a manageable safety profile and durable complete responses

    Measurement of the cosmic ray spectrum above 4×10184{\times}10^{18} eV using inclined events detected with the Pierre Auger Observatory

    A measurement of the cosmic-ray spectrum for energies exceeding 4×10184{\times}10^{18} eV is presented, which is based on the analysis of showers with zenith angles greater than 6060^{\circ} detected with the Pierre Auger Observatory between 1 January 2004 and 31 December 2013. The measured spectrum confirms a flux suppression at the highest energies. Above 5.3×10185.3{\times}10^{18} eV, the "ankle", the flux can be described by a power law EγE^{-\gamma} with index γ=2.70±0.02(stat)±0.1(sys)\gamma=2.70 \pm 0.02 \,\text{(stat)} \pm 0.1\,\text{(sys)} followed by a smooth suppression region. For the energy (EsE_\text{s}) at which the spectral flux has fallen to one-half of its extrapolated value in the absence of suppression, we find Es=(5.12±0.25(stat)1.2+1.0(sys))×1019E_\text{s}=(5.12\pm0.25\,\text{(stat)}^{+1.0}_{-1.2}\,\text{(sys)}){\times}10^{19} eV.Comment: Replaced with published version.     Energy Estimation of Cosmic Rays with the Engineering Radio Array of the Pierre Auger Observatory

    The Auger Engineering Radio Array (AERA) is part of the Pierre Auger Observatory and is used to detect the radio emission of cosmic-ray air showers. These observations are compared to the data of the surface detector stations of the Observatory, which provide well-calibrated information on the cosmic-ray energies and arrival directions. The response of the radio stations in the 30 to 80 MHz regime has been thoroughly calibrated to enable the reconstruction of the incoming electric field. For the latter, the energy deposit per area is determined from the radio pulses at each observer position and is interpolated using a two-dimensional function that takes into account signal asymmetries due to interference between the geomagnetic and charge-excess emission components. The spatial integral over the signal distribution gives a direct measurement of the energy transferred from the primary cosmic ray into radio emission in the AERA frequency range. We measure 15.8 MeV of radiation energy for a 1 EeV air shower arriving perpendicularly to the geomagnetic field. This radiation energy -- corrected for geometrical effects -- is used as a cosmic-ray energy estimator. Performing an absolute energy calibration against the surface-detector information, we observe that this radio-energy estimator scales quadratically with the cosmic-ray energy as expected for coherent emission. We find an energy resolution of the radio reconstruction of 22% for the data set and 17% for a high-quality subset containing only events with at least five radio stations with signal.Comment: Replaced with published version.     Measurement of the Radiation Energy in the Radio Signal of Extensive Air Showers as a Universal Estimator of Cosmic-Ray Energy

    We measure the energy emitted by extensive air showers in the form of radio emission in the frequency range from 30 to 80 MHz. Exploiting the accurate energy scale of the Pierre Auger Observatory, we obtain a radiation energy of 15.8 \pm 0.7 (stat) \pm 6.7 (sys) MeV for cosmic rays with an energy of 1 EeV arriving perpendicularly to a geomagnetic field of 0.24 G, scaling quadratically with the cosmic-ray energy. A comparison with predictions from state-of-the-art first-principle calculations shows agreement with our measurement. The radiation energy provides direct access to the calorimetric energy in the electromagnetic cascade of extensive air showers. Comparison with our result thus allows the direct calibration of any cosmic-ray radio detector against the well-established energy scale of the Pierre Auger Observatory.Comment: Replaced with published version.
