Espacio urbano y sociedad en el Oviedo bajomedieval: una propuesta metodológica

The aim of our paper is to offer a methodological model for the study of the relation between space and society in late medieval Spanish towns, a model limned with the elaborations of the so-called ‘Social Topography', concerned with the social distribution urban space, or, in other words, the study of spatial patterns as a reflection and stimulus for the social, political and economic relations that are established in the town in short, a reciprocal conditioning between urban fabric and social structure, between "the town of stone and the town of men". Drawing on the case of Oviedo as an example, the use of certain analytical categories has helped us identify both the settlement patterns of the different social groups at the social features of the town's main streets and neighbourhoods. In addition, the evidence showed that in some cases local elites left their physical imprint within the town by locating their family estates in certain specific streets, with the aim of communicating through the buildings their privileged status among the local society. The best example of such ‘display of power’, sought after by the urban patriciate of Oviedo, is the Rua Palace.Nuestro trabajo pretende ofrecer una propuesta metodológica para el estudio de la relación entre espacio y sociedad en las ciudades de la Baja Edad Media hispánica, propuesta que se enmarca dentro de la corriente conocida como "sociotopografía", interesada en la distribución social del espacio urbano o, en otros términos, en el estudio del entramado físico como reflejo y estímulo de las relaciones sociales, políticas y económicas existentes en la ciudad. En definitiva, un condicionamiento recíproco entre trama urbana y estructura social, entre "la ciudad de piedra y la ciudad de hombres”. Tomando como ejemplo el caso de Oviedo, hemos utilizado unas categorías de análisis que nos han permitido identificar tanto los espacios de habitación de los diferentes grupos sociales como la fisonomía social de las principales calles y barrios urbanos. Además, hemos podido constatar cómo en algunos casos las élites locales marcaron su impronta física dentro de la ciudad ubicando en calles muy concretas sus patrimonios familiares, con el objetivo de comunicar, a través de la edilicia, su posición privilegiada en el conjunto de la sociedad local. Design of a test platform for studying radiation effects on SPI FRAM and I² C CMOS non-volatile memories

Electronic components are often exposed to external radiation that may interfere with their normal operation. This becomes particularly relevant for high-scale of integration parts and when said components are used in harsh environments such as in satellites and space ships, aviation, military applications or in heavy and automotive industries. Several design and construction techniques have been developed to overcome, or at least minimize, the impact of external factors on electronic components, so ESD (Electro-Static Discharge), EMI (Electro-Magnetic Interference) or RFI (Radio-Frequency Interference) protection is usually built-in into mission-critical electronic components like microcontrollers, FPGAs or memory chips. The Computer Architecture Department at FDI is carrying out the READAR-II project with the aim of developing techniques to improve the resistance of different types of components used in space missions. In particular, and as a first step, the study on semiconductor-based memories. This BSc. Thesis goal lies within the READAR-II research project objective and focuses on building a test platform to evaluate the radiation effects on non-volatile memories

Assessment of Virgin Olive Oil Adulteration by a Rapid Luminescent Method

The adulteration of virgin olive oil with hazelnut oil is a common fraud in the food industry, which makes mandatory the development of accurate methods to guarantee the authenticity and traceability of virgin olive oil. In this work, we demonstrate the potential of a rapid luminescent method to characterize edible oils and to detect adulterations among them. A regression model based on five luminescent frequencies related to minor oil components was designed and validated, providing excellent performance for the detection of virgin olive oil adulteration

La nueva era del periodismo deportivo. Análisis de los canales de Twitch ‘Jijantes FC’ y ‘El Chiringuito Tv’

Este estudio plantea el tratamiento informativo de dos canales de Twitch centrados en el periodismo deportivo. El periodismo ha sabido reinventarse y utilizar la ‘era digital’ para crear nuevos contenidos, formatos o incluso nuevas formas de comunicar. Los grandes números de las audiencias de streamers han servido de inspiración para que periodistas y medios de comunicación, pero, en particular, los medios deportivos se interesen por las nuevas plataformas y las redes sociales y, para poder llegar a un público cada vez más amplio. La investigación examina, durante el mes de febrero de 2023 todos los directos de dos canales: ‘Jijantes FC’, que tiene 652.00 seguidores y ‘El Chiringuito Tv’, que tiene 898.527. El objeto del trabajo es ahondar en cómo es el tratamiento informativo en la plataforma de Twitch, conocer las nuevas herramientas utilizadas, así como establecer las coincidencias y diferencias entre los dos canales. Para ello, se ha utilizado la metodología del análisis de contenido. Los resultados avanzan cuestiones como que la cantidad de horas en directo no asegura tener más visualizaciones o que los formatos que priman en estos canales son la tertulia o las retrasmisiones en directo.This study considers the informative treatment of two Twitch channels focused on sports journalism. Journalism has been able to reinvent itself and use the 'digital era' to create new content, formats or even new ways of communicating. The large numbers of streamer audiences have inspired journalists and media outlets, but in particular sports media, to take an interest in new platforms and social networks and, in order to reach an increasingly wider audience. The research examines, during the month of February 2023 all the live streams of two channels: 'Jijantes FC', which has 652,00 followers and 'El Chiringuito Tv', which has 898,527. The purpose of the study is to delve into how the information is treated on the Twitch platform, to learn about the new tools used, as well as to establish the coincidences and differences between the two channels. For this purpose, the methodology of content analysis was used. Efecto a largo plazo de las técnicas de reproducción asistida en el modelo murino

Fecha de lectura: 14-10-2021Las técnicas de reproducción asistida son ampliamente utilizadas en infertilidad humana y en producción de especies ganaderas, sin embargo, las consecuencias de la manipulación embrionaria durante el desarrollo preimplantacional no están bien caracterizadas; incluso algunas manipulaciones han empezado a aplicarse en tratamientos de infertilidad humana sin haber sido analizadas en un modelo animal. En esta tesis, utilizando el modelo murino, hemos examinado el efecto a corto y largo plazo de tres manipulaciones habitualmente realizadas en el embrión. Hemos analizado el efecto de un cultivo in vitro subóptimo, el efecto de una fecundación mediante ICSI utilizando espermatozoides con DNA fragmentado, y el efecto de la transferencia asincrónica de los embriones. Hemos desarrollado un cultivo subóptimo por adición de FCS al medio comprobando cómo altera la expresión de genes de imprinting, que afecta a las tasas de producción de blastocistos y su número de células, así como a la implantación. Además, los animales producidos mediante este cultivo subóptimo presentan ciertos fenotipos que afectan al desarrollo de los neonatos, al metabolismo y al comportamiento del animal adulto. La ICSI usando espermatozoides con DNA fragmentado también produce alteraciones epigenéticas en el blastocisto, reduciendo las tasas de producción de blastocistos y de implantación. Además, en el animal adulto induce obesidad y alteraciones del comportamiento, como ansiedad y memoria. Pero además, el protocolo de congelación empleado para producir espermatozoides con DNA fragmentado provoca acortamiento de telómeros, que se ve reflejado en un envejecimiento temprano y desarrollo de cáncer de los animales, incrementando la tasa de mortalidad. En tercer lugar, hemos analizado la transferencia embrionaria y el efecto de la asincronía entre el estadio del embrión y la receptora, con transferencias sincrónicas de zigotos o blastocistos y transferencias asincrónicas de blastocistos, comprobando que la asincronía no afecta al embrión debido al fenómeno de la diapausa. Sin embargo, hemos observado que la transferencia de blastocistos afecta al peso al nacer, la presión sistólica de los adultos y la ansiedad, mientras el zigoto es mucho menos sensible que el blastocisto a la hora de ser transferido, posiblemente porque el genoma embrionario aún no se ha activado y contienen mayor plasticida

Negative feedback increases information transmission, enabling bacteria to discriminate sublethal antibiotic concentrations

In the cell, noise constrains information transmission through signaling pathways and regulatory networks. There is growing evidence that the channel capacity of cellular pathways is limited to a few bits, questioning whether cells quantify external stimuli or rely on threshold detection and binary on/off decisions. Here, using fluorescence microscopy and information theory, we analyzed the ability of the transcriptional regulator TetR to sense and quantify the antibiotic tetracycline. The results showed that noise filtering by negative feedback increased information transmission up to 2 bits, generating a graded response able to discriminate different antibiotic concentrations. This response matched the antibiotic subinhibitory selection window, suggesting that information transmission through TetR is optimized to quantify sublethal antibiotic levels. Effect of cell dedifferentiation and genetic p53 profile in the expression of Bcl-2 family members in tyrosine kinase inhibitor-treated liver cancer cells

Motivation: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the fifth most common type of liver cancer and the second most frequent cause of cancer‐related death worldwide [1]. The recommended first‐line treatment for patients with locally advanced disease and well-preserved liver function is Sorafenib with a mean overall survival of 11 months [2]. Other drugs have been developed to increase the therapeutic arsenal of treatments such as Lenvatinib [3], Regorafenib [4]  and Cabozantinib [5]. The Bcl-2 protein family plays a central part in the control of apoptosis [6]. Bcl-2, Bcl-XL and Mcl-1 are antiapoptotic members Bax, Bak, Bid, and Bim are proapoptotic members. The cytoprotective function of Bcl-2 proteins stems from their ability to antagonize Bax and Bak, and thus prevent apoptosis. [7]. The aim of the present study was the comparative analysis of the tyrosine kinase inhibitors in cell death and proliferation, and the expression of Bcl-2 family members according to the differentiation degrees and p53 genetic profile in liver cancer cells. Methods: Sorafenib, Regorafenib, Cabozantinib, and Lenvatinib were obtained commercially from Carbosynth Limited. Parameters were assessed in differentiated cells: HepG2 (ATCC/LGC Standards, SLU, Barcelona, Spain) and Huh7 (Apath LLC, Brooklyn, USA), and dedifferentiated cells: JHH2 and JHH4 cell lines obtained from the Japanese Collection of Research Bioresources Cell Bank (Tokyo, Japan). Cells were negative for mycoplasma contamination. HCC cell lines were maintained in supplemented Minimum Essential Medium with Earle's Balanced Salts at 37°C in a humidified incubator with 5 % CO2. Cells were seeded at a density of 10^5 cells/cm2 in 2D culture. Different parameters related to cell death and proliferation were associated with the expression of Bcl-2 family members assessed by Western-blot analysis. Results: The administration of tyrosine kinase inhibitors induced cell death and reduced cell proliferation. This effect was associated with an upregulation of tBid and Bim expression in differentiated liver cancer cells (HepG2 and Huh7) compared to dedifferentiated cells (JHH2 and JHH4, respectively). In addition, the lack of p53 in liver cancer cells (Huh7 and JHH4) had a lower degree in the expression compared to their p53 wild type counterpart (HepG2 and JHH). Conclusions: The dedifferentiation of cancer cells and mutated p53 reduce the upregulaupregulation of Bim and Bid induced by Sorafenib and Regorafenib in liver cancer cells

Metabolomics in Alzheimer's disease: The need of complementary analytical platforms for the identification of biomarkers to unravel the underlying pathology

Alzheimer's disease is a complex neurodegenerative disorder characterized by a multi-factorial etiology, not completely understood to date. In this context, the application of metabolomics is emerging in the last years because of its potential to monitor molecular alterations associated with disease pathogenesis and progression, as well as to discover candidate diagnostic biomarkers. However, the huge heterogeneity and dynamism of the human metabolome makes impossible the simultaneous determination of the entire set of metabolites from complex biological samples. Thus, the most common strategy to get a comprehensive overview of the organism's phenotypic expression is the combined use of complementary metabolomic platforms. In this review, we summarize the advantages and limitations of the most important analytical techniques usually employed in metabolomics, including nuclear magnetic resonance, direct infusion mass spectrometry and hyphenated approaches based on the coupling of orthogonal separation mechanisms (i.e. liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, capillary electrophoresis) with mass spectrometry. Antagonismo in vivo de hongos endófitos frente a Fusarium circinatum

En este estudio se evaluó el efecto de seis hongos endófitos frente a F. circinatum sobre plantas de cinco especies de Pinus sp (P. radiata, P. sylvestris, P. pinaster, P. pinea, P. nigra) en campo. Estos hongos fueron seleccionados estudio previo por sus buenos efectos antagonistas frente al patógeno in vitro. Los resultados obtenidos confirmaron que P. radiata es la especie de pino más susceptible a F. circinatum. Igualmente P. sylvestris y P. pinaster resultaron también susceptibles a la enfermedad. Dos de los seis aislamientos de hongos endófitos evaluados, pertenecientes a las especies Chaetomium aureum y Alternaria sp., redujeron significativamente los síntomas de F. circinatum sobre P. radiata, lo que les convierte en potenciales agentes de control biológico de la enfermedad del CRP.Departamento de Producción Vegetal y Recursos ForestalesMáster en Ingeniería de Monte

Diseño de la programación didáctica de la U.T. Máquinas y equipos agrícolas, forestales y de jardinería incluido en el Módulo Profesional Maquinaria e Instalaciones Agroforestales correspondientes al C.G.S. Paisajismo y Medio Rural

El trabajo consiste en la Programación Didáctica del Módulo Profesional “Maquinaria e instalaciones agroforestales”, perteneciente al Ciclo de Grado Superior de Paisajismo y Medio Rural. Se desarrolla la Unidad de Trabajo “Máquinas y equipos agrícolas, forestales y de jardinería”, perteneciente a dicho módulo. A lo largo del trabajo se programará el módulo, con el desarrollo de los objetivos, competencias, contenidos, la metodología a desarrollar de trabajo en el aula. Se determinarán los contenidos divididos en diferentes unidades de trabajo y se determinarán los instrumentos de evaluación necesarios. Finalmente se desarrollará la Unidad de Trabajo “Máquinas y equipos agrícolas, forestales y de jardinería”, con los contenidos, objetivos y competencias correspondientes, junto con el desarrollo de las actividades a realizar.
