Se exponen también brevemente las prácticas realizadas en una de las asignaturas donde se imparte redes de control, en la que es fundamental la utilización de un hardware conocido que permita programar las funciones básicas que operan directamente con el controlador de bus CANIn this work the development of a board with interface to the CAN and PCI bus for its use in lab courses related to control networks, is presented. This board has high benefits and advantages and has been implemented for educational purposes due to its programming facility. The board has two independent CAN channels and it allows direct access to the registers of the CAN controller. The objective of the lab experiments is to study the control networks in the physical and link levels and to develop a middleware that performs the interface between these layers and the user application. The experiments done in one of the courses, which includes control networks, are briefly described. In these practical labs it is very important the use of a known hardware that allows programming the basic functions which directly operate with the CAN bus controlle

We present 7 cases of supracondylar fracture of the femur in patients with total knee arthroplaty. The purpose of this study was to asses the different options of treatment and their results at mid-term. Fractures were treated with an intramedular nail or with a Neufeld traction system followed by a Q.T.B. cast. The method of treatment depends on the grade of fracture displacement, period of time since the fracture and patient health. All o them reached similar level of activity like before the fracture

Multipactor radiation analysis within a waveguide region based on a frequency-domain representation of the dynamics of charged particles

A technique for the accurate computation of the electromagnetic fields radiated by a charged particle moving within a parallel-plate waveguide is presented. Based on a transformation of the time-varying current density of the particle into a time-harmonic current density, this technique allows the evaluation of the radiated electromagnetic fields both in the frequency and time domains, as well as in the near- and far-field regions. For this purpose, several accelerated versions of the parallel-plate Green’s function in the frequency domain have been considered. The theory has been successfully applied to the multipactor discharge occurring within a two metal-plates region. The proposed formulation has been tested with a particle-in-cell code based on the finite- difference time-domain method, obtaining good agreement. The authors would like to thank ESA/ESTEC for having funded this research activity through the Contract “RF Breakdown in Multicarrier Systems” ͑Contract No. 19918/06/NL/GLC͒

Procceedings of: Eighteenth Annual Symposium on Computer Aplications in Medical Care, november 5-9, 1994, Washington, USA. Edited by Judy G. OzboltTelemedicine is changing the classicalform of health care delivery, dramatically increasing the number of new applications in which some type of distributed synchronous cooperation between health care professionals is required. This paper presents the design and development ofa telemedicine distributed system for cooperative medical diagnosis based on two new approaches: 1) a distributed layered architecture specially designed to add synchronous computer supported cooperative workfeatures either to new or existing medical applications; 2) the definition of a methodological procedure to design graphical user interfaces for telemedicine cooperative working scenarios. The cooperative work is supported by a collaborative toolkit that provides telepointing, window sharing, coordination and synchronization. Finally, we have implemented and installed the telemedicine system in clinical practice between two hospitals, providing teleconferencing facilities for cooperative decision support in haemodynamics studies. This specific implementation and a preliminary evaluation were accomplished under the Research Project FEST "Framework for European Services in Telemedicine" funded by the EU AIM Programme. This work is supported in part by EU - AIM FEST project no. A-201 1, and by grants CICYT TEMA TIC 92-1288-PB and TELEMEDICINA TIC 93-1279-E.Publicad

A divide-and-conquer approach for genomic prediction in rubber tree using machine learning

International audienceRubber tree ( Hevea brasiliensis ) is the main feedstock for commercial rubber; however, its long vegetative cycle has hindered the development of more productive varieties via breeding programs. With the availability of H. brasiliensis genomic data, several linkage maps with associated quantitative trait loci have been constructed and suggested as a tool for marker-assisted selection. Nonetheless, novel genomic strategies are still needed, and genomic selection (GS) may facilitate rubber tree breeding programs aimed at reducing the required cycles for performance assessment. Even though such a methodology has already been shown to be a promising tool for rubber tree breeding, increased model predictive capabilities and practical application are still needed. Here, we developed a novel machine learning-based approach for predicting rubber tree stem circumference based on molecular markers. Through a divide-and-conquer strategy, we propose a neural network prediction system with two stages: (1) subpopulation prediction and (2) phenotype estimation. This approach yielded higher accuracies than traditional statistical models in a single-environment scenario. By delivering large accuracy improvements, our methodology represents a powerful tool for use in Hevea GS strategies. Therefore, the incorporation of machine learning techniques into rubber tree GS represents an opportunity to build more robust models and optimize Hevea breeding programs

An analytical model to evaluate the radiated power spectrum of a multipactor discharge in a parallel-plate region

This paper is aimed at studying the electromagnetic radiation pattern of a multipactor discharge occurring in a parallel-plate waveguide. The proposed method is based on the Fourier expansion of the multipactor current in terms of timeharmonic currents radiating in the parallel-plate region. Classical radiation theory combined with the frequency domain Green’s function of the problem allows the calculation of both the electric and the magnetic radiated fields. A novel analytical formula for the total radiated power of each multipactor harmonic has been derived. This formula is suitable for predicting multipactor with the third-harmonic technique. The proposed formulation has been successfully tested with a particle-in-cell code
