    O DESAFIO DO ENSINO DO DESIGN PARA A SUSTENTABILIDADE NUM CONTEXTO PANDÊMICO: UMA EXPERIÊNCIA DIDÁTICO-PEDAGÓGICA

    This paper aims to report and discuss a didactic-pedagogical experience in teaching design for sustainability (DfS) in which two subjects - Packaging Design and Design for Sustainability - of an undergraduate course in Graphic Design in a Brazilian public university were worked together. The activity was carried out entirely remotely due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The methodology used is the experience report, complemented with literature review, graphic-visual records of the work process and testimonies of participating students. This report describes and discusses the teaching-learning strategies used, the results obtained, and points out some paths that have shown to be promising from that experience, in particular the use of online platforms for planning and project management combined with the use of videoconferencing applications and textbooks produced in an open and collaborative way by the LeNS Brazil research network.Este artigo busca relatar e discutir uma experiência didático-pedagógica no ensino do Design para a Sustentabilidade no qual duas disciplinas – Design de Embalagem e Sustentabilidade – de um curso de graduação em uma universidade pública brasileira foram trabalhadas de forma conjunta. A atividade foi realizada inteiramente de forma remota devido à pandemia de Covid-19.A metodologia utilizada é o relato de experiência, complementado com revisão de literatura, registros gráfico-visuais do processo de trabalho e testemunhos dos estudantes participantes. Este relato descreve e discute as estratégias de ensino-aprendizagem utilizadas, os resultados obtidos, e aponta alguns caminhos que se mostraram promissores a partir desta experiência, em particular o uso de plataformas online para o planejamento e gestão do projeto, combinadas com o uso de aplicativos de videoconferência e livro-texto produzido de forma aberta e colaborativa pela rede de pesquisa LeNS Brazil

    On the distribution of an effective channel estimator for multi-cell massive MIMO

    Accurate channel estimation is of utmost importance for massive MIMO systems to provide significant improvements in spectral and energy efficiency. In this work, we present a study on the distribution of a simple but yet effective and practical channel estimator for multi-cell massive MIMO systems suffering from pilot-contamination. The proposed channel estimator performs well under moderate to aggressive pilot contamination scenarios without previous knowledge of the inter-cell large-scale channel coefficients and noise power, asymptotically approximating the performance of the linear MMSE estimator as the number of antennas increases. We prove that the distribution of the proposed channel estimator can be accurately approximated by the circularly-symmetric complex normal distribution, when the number of antennas, M, deployed at the base station is greater than 10

    Repurposing of terconazole as an anti Trypanosoma cruzi agent

    Trypanosoma cruzi is the causative agent of Chagas disease, a parasitic infection endemic in Latin America. Currently there are no effective treatments for the chronic phase of the disease, when most patients are diagnosed, therefore the development of new drugs is a priority area. Several triazoles, used as fungicides, exhibit trypanocidal activity both in vitro and in vivo. The mechanism of action of such drugs, both in fungi and in T. cruzi, relies in the inhibition of ergosterol biosynthesis affecting the cell viability and growth. Among them, terconazole was the first triazole antifungal drug for human use. In this work, the trypanocidal activity of terconazole was evaluated using in vitro assays. In epimastigotes of two parasites strains from different discrete typing units (Y and Dm28c) the calculated IC50 were 25.7 μM and 21.9 μM, respectively. In trypomastigotes and amastigotes (the clinically relevant life-stages of T. cruzi) a higher drug susceptibility was observed with IC50 values of 4.6 μM and 5.9 μM, respectively. Finally, the molecular docking simulations suggest that terconazole inhibits the T. cruzi cytochrome P450 14-α-demethylase, interacting in a similar way that other triazole drugs. Drug repurposing to Chagas disease treatment is one of the recommended approach according to the criterion of international health organizations for their application in neglected diseases.Fil: Reigada, Chantal.     Field dose radiation determination by active learning with gaussian process for autonomous robot guiding

    This article proposes an approach for determination of radiation dose pro le in a radiation-susceptible environment, aiming to guide an autonomous robot in acting on those environments, reducing the human exposure to dangerous amount of dose. The approach consists of an active learning method based on information entropy reduction, using log-normally warped Gaussian Process (GP) as surrogate model, resulting in non-linear online regression with sequential measurements. Experiments with simulated radiation dose elds of varying complexity were made, and results showed that the approach was e ective in reconstruct the eld with high accuracy, through relatively few measurements. The technique was also shown some robustness in presence measurement noise, present in real measurements, by assuming Gaussian noise

    Identification of Trypanosoma cruzi Polyamine Transport Inhibitors by Computational Drug Repurposing

    Trypanosoma cruzi is the causative agent of Chagas disease, a parasitic infection endemic in Latin America. In T. cruzi the transport of polyamines is essential because this organism is unable to synthesize these compounds de novo. Therefore, the uptake of polyamines from the extracellular medium is critical for survival of the parasite. The anthracene-putrescine conjugate Ant4 was first designed as a polyamine transport probe in cancer cells. Ant4 was also found to inhibit the polyamine transport system and produced a strong trypanocidal effect in T. cruzi. Considering that Ant4 is not currently approved by the FDA, in this work we performed computer simulations to find trypanocidal drugs approved for use in humans that have structures and activities similar to Ant4. Through a similarity ligand-based virtual screening using Ant4 as reference molecule, four possible inhibitors of polyamine transport were found. Three of them, promazine, chlorpromazine and clomipramine, showed to be effective inhibitors of putrescine uptake, and also revealed a trypanocidal activity in epimastigotes (IC50 values of 69.0, 50.8 and 49.4 μM, respectively) and trypomastigotes (IC50 values of 3.5, 2.8 and 1.4 μM, respectively). Finally, molecular docking simulations suggest that the interactions between the T. cruzi polyamine transporter TcPAT12 and all the identified inhibitors occur in the same region of the protein. However, this location is different from the site occupied by the natural substrates. The value of this effort is that repurposing known drugs in the treatment of other pathologies, especially neglected diseases such as Chagas disease, significantly decreases the time and economic cost of implementation.Fil: Reigada, Chantal.     TECHNOLOGICAL CAPABILITY IN THE BRAZILIAN NAVAL INDUSTRY: A METRIC FOR OFFSHORE SUPPORT VESSELS

    The objective of this study is to present an adapted technological capability metric for the offshore support vessel construction segment. Based on a literature review, a preliminary metric was developed and used to interview a group of researchers, professors, and managers from the naval industry. Through a qualitative approach, the collected empirical evidence was analyzed and organized in an analytical framework. A pilot test of the metric was then carried out at a shipyard in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The study’s results indicate that the metric’s application can offer firm managers and government policy-makers relevant information for the design and implementation of business and technological strategies for the supply vessel segment
