    Port System of the Spanish Mediterranean Coast Side

    ABSTRACT: This study aims at doing a comparative analysis of the Mediterranean Port Authorities and their positioning based on their perception about the "innovative effort they have made". In order to achieve this aim, first, a comparative analysis has been carried out in order to obtain an overview of the Mediterranean watershed; secondly, the strengths and weaknesses of each Port Authority have been identified based on the variable "perceived innovative effort". The main results obtained have allowed us to detect the existing expertise on the Mediterranean Port Authorities. For instance, Tarragona is specialized in coal traffic, while Barcelona is specialized in natural gas and oil. Valencia holds the first position regarding traffic of goods. It also shares the first position with Barcelona in reference to container traffic. From the infrastructure analysis, it has been concluded that Tarragona is the Port Authority with a higher number of specialized facilities, followed by Barcelona, Castellón and Valencia. In addition, a detailed analysis of the specific facilities of each Port Authority has allowed us to get more information about the specialization of Port Authorities. Thus, it has been found that Tarragona is the only one that has coal facilities, Baleares is the only one with a dock for unloading butane and Barcelona is the only one with specific facilities dedicated to food (soybean, cocoa, coffee ...). Finally, the strengths and weaknesses analysis provides an overview of the situation of each Port Authority, indicating the potential lines of action and improvement that they can follow. We consider that this study may be useful for the Port Authority managers and policy makers due to it offers an overview of the situation of the Port Authority compared to its nearest competitors, helping with decision making and resource allocation

Si antes los medios de comunicación tradicionales, la publicidad y las relaciones públicas, eran los únicos canales y métodos para lograr comunicar, ahora internet se asienta como el nuevo eje comunicativo debido a la actual crisis económica y el auge del social media (web 2.0).     Galician consensus on management of cardiotoxicity in breast cancer: risk factors, prevention, and early intervention

    This Galician consensus statement is a joint oncologists/cardiologists initiative indented to establish basic recommendations on how to prevent and to manage the cardiotoxicity in breast cancer with the aim of ensuring an optimal cardiovascular care of these patients. A clinical screening of the patients before treatment is recommended to stratify them into a determined risk group based on their intrinsic cardiovascular risk factors and those extrinsic arose from breast cancer therapy, thereby providing individualized preventive and monitoring measures. Suitable initial and ongoing assessments for patients with low and moderate/high risk and planned treatment with anthracyclines and trastuzumab are given; also, measures aimed at preventing and correcting any modifiable risk factor are pointed out .TEVA Farma Españ

    Toxicity of wine effluents and assessment of a depuration system for their control: assay with tadpoles of Rhinella arenarum (BUFONIDAE)

    We evaluated the toxicity of the winery effluent and the efficiency of a symbiotic depuration system by means an experiment with Rhinella arenarum tadpoles. The studied effluent was taken from warehouses during the cleaning season. These effluents subsequently subjected to the purification treatment under evaluation. The effluent samples differentiated into two treatment levels: “raw” where the effluent was evaluated with field conditions and “treated” where the effluent was previously filtered with the symbiotic depuration system. The results of the bioassays compared with the physicochemical parameters determined in the effluent samples. The lethal response had a clear-cut correspondence with the effluent quality assessed utilizing physicochemical parameters. In all cases, dilution of the samples resulted in a significant reduction of their toxicity. It concluded that (a) winery effluents could be harmful to tadpoles of R. arenarum, (b) the symbiotic purification system used to treat wine effluents it would produce a significant reduction in the contaminant levels of the effluent. However, this reduction in contaminant levels does not provide sufficient safety for the release of the effluents into the environment.Fil: Navas Romero, Ana Laura.     The commensal bacterium Lactiplantibacillus plantarum imprints innate memory-like responses in mononuclear phagocytes

    Gut microbiota is a constant source of antigens and stimuli to which the resident immune system has developed tolerance. However, the mechanisms by which mononuclear phagocytes, specifically monocytes/macrophages, cope with these usually pro-inflammatory signals are poorly understood. Here, we show that innate immune memory promotes anti-inflammatory homeostasis, using as model strains of the commensal bacterium Lactiplantibacillus plantarum. Priming of monocytes/macrophages with bacteria, especially in its live form, enhances bacterial intracellular survival and decreases the release of pro-inflammatory signals to the environment, with lower production of TNF and higher levels of IL-10. Analysis of the transcriptomic landscape of these cells shows downregulation of pathways associated with the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the release of cytokines, chemokines and antimicrobial peptides. Indeed, the induction of ROS prevents memory-induced bacterial survival. In addition, there is a dysregulation in gene expression of several metabolic pathways leading to decreased glycolytic and respiratory rates in memory cells.
