Offshoring and company characteristics: some evidence from the analysis of Spanish firm data

This article investigates firm characteristics associated with the probability of relocating activities in a foreign country. Using manufacturing firms’ micro data for the 1999-2005 period, we find evidence that cost-cutting objectives are the main determinants for offshoring production. The analysis reveals that firms that are larger and have higher productivity, more research and development activity and greater human capital intensity are more likely to relocate activity abroad. Thus, ‘the best’ firms self-select to offshoring activities. We note the special prominence of foreign firms among those that engage in offshoring. Spacelike hypersurfaces in standard static spacetimes

In this work we study spacelike hypersurfaces immersed in spatially open standard static spacetimes with complete spacelike slices. Under appropriate lower bounds on the Ricci curvature of the spacetime in directions tangent to the slices, we prove that every complete CMC hypersurface having either bounded hyperbolic angle or bounded height is maximal. Our conclusions follow from general mean curvature estimates for spacelike hypersurfaces. In case where the spacetime is a Lorentzian product with spatial factor of nonnegative Ricci curvature and sectional curvatures bounded below, we also show that a complete maximal hypersurface not intersecting a spacelike slice is itself a slice. This result is obtained from a gradient estimate for parametric maximal hypersurfaces.Comment: 50 page

[Resumen] El artículo ofrece un estudio del concepto de “primero” en la obra de Gracián. Se analiza la ideología del primor “excelencia de primero” para apuntar a modo de teoría una “agudeza numeral” que, aplicada a El Político, permite diseccionar pormenorizadamente el concepto de primero que trasciende a un tipo de antropología temporal y sirve de modelización histórica y política.[Abstract] The article offers a study of the concept of “primero” (‘first’) in Gracián’s works. Analytical Method and Synthetic Method in Marburg Neo-Kantianism

Kant distinguishes between two methods in philosophy: the analytical method and the synthetic method. According to the analytical method, philosophy starts from a given fact to find its conditions of possibility. On the contrary, the synthetic method starts from an obscure and confused representation to provide clarity and distinction to each concept in order to show its necessary relation with other concepts. Marburg Neo-Kantianism holds that philosophy must begin with the fact of science. These claims have led numerous commentators to identify the Neo-Kantian method as a regressive method. I will show that, according to Paul Natorp’s approach, the progressive method is the fundamental method of philosophy while the analytical method is a second step in the investigation

Diagnóstico de la diabetes gestacional

El objetivo de este trabajo es definir qué es la diabetes gestacional, sus factores de riesgo, las diferentes pruebas a realizar para su diagnóstico, cómo analizar dichas pruebas según diferentes criterios propuestos y su tratamiento a seguir. Para ello, se ha realizado una extensa revisión bibliográfica tomando como fuente libros de Medicina General, Obstetricia y revistas científicas accesibles en base de datos on-line. La diabetes gestacional es una alteración en el metabolismo de los hidratos de carbono que se detecta por primera vez durante el embarazo. Es la complicación más frecuente durante la gestación y su prevalencia depende principalmente de los distintos criterios diagnósticos aplicados. La importancia de su diagnóstico certero y tratamiento consecuente radica en que aumenta el riesgo de diversas patologías obstétricas como el sufrimiento fetal, macrosomía y problemas neonatales, entre otros. El problema, sin embargo, es la controversia aún no resuelta en torno a su diagnóstico

Romances del repertorio infantil en América.

En la transmisión oral del romancero, los niños tienen una especial participación a través de rondas y canciones en las que cantan romances de temática infantil; asimismo adoptan y adaptan temas del repertorio adulto. El índice de romances de repertorio infantil hispanoamericano incluye 16 tipos tradicionales, más 12 tipos incluyendo los religiosos, correspondientes a los de tradicionalización tardía o vulgar. En este artículo relaciono asimismo las fórmulas, los motivos y la intertextualidad de los romances con textos de procedencia lírica y con coplas burlescas o líricas en versiones de Cuba, Argentina y Chile. El repertorio infantil por su singularidad sería conveniente clasificarlo en subgénero romancístico
