Factores metabólicos predictivos de respuesta a tratamiento de la ¹⁸F-FDG PET/TC en el cáncer de cérvix localmente avanzado tratado con radioquimioterapia

    Get PDF

The blackspot seabream or red seabream Pagellus bogaraveo commonly known as voraz is the target species to the artisanal fleet that operate in the Strait of Gibraltar, being a species of great interest to the province of Cadiz. The blackspot seabream is caught by a locally designed hook line known as “voracera”. This paper aims to analyze this fishery by going through the sales notes submitted by fishmarket operators to the Regional Government of Andalucía from 2001 through 2016. The balckspot seabream shows a notable seasonal pattern. First sale prices are notably affected by the fish length-grade being grade 2 the one with the highest value. Total catch variation through the analyzed period reveals that this fishery has been overerploited. It must be noted that the blackspot seabream is highly sensitive to overfishing because of its protandrous hermaphroditism, with late first maturity (4- 5years) as females and rather low productivity. Technical measures should be adopted to ensure the stock sustainability. Minimum landing size should be set to 35 cm to ensure a balance exploitation between younger fish (males) and older fish (females).El trabajo consta de 34 páginas, sin incluir los anexos

Lianas Significantly Reduce Aboveground and Belowground Carbon Storage: A Virtual Removal Experiment

    Get PDF
Lianas are a quintessential tropical plant growth-form; they are speciose and abundant in tropical forests worldwide. Lianas compete intensely with trees, reducing nearly all aspects of tree performance. However, the negative effects of lianas on trees have never been combined and quantified for multiple tropical forests. Here, we present the first comprehensive standardized quantification of the effect of lianas on trees across tropical forests worldwide. We used data from 50 liana removal experiments and quantified the effect size of lianas on tree growth, biomass accretion, reproduction, mortality, leaf water potential, sap flow velocity, and leaf area index (LAI) across different forest types. Using a three-level mixed-effect meta-analysis, we found unequivocal evidence that lianas significantly reduce tree growth and biomass accretion in ecological, logging, and silvicultural studies. Lianas also significantly reduce tree reproduction, recruitment, and physiological performance. The relative detrimental effect of lianas on trees does not increase in drier forests, where lianas tend to be more abundant. Our results highlight the substantial liana-induced reduction in tree performance and biomass accumulation, and they provide quantitative data on the effects of lianas on trees that are essential for large-scale plant demographic and ecosystem models that predict forest change and carbon dynamics

Tourist information sources at different stages of the travel experience

Tourist destination managers must design effective communication strategies as part of their promotional tasks. In order to do so, destinations need to know what sources of information tourists actually use during the stages of a trip. Previous studies have partially addressed this issue but only used a limited list of sources analysed or only focused on three stages (pre-, during and post-). Our study considers a fourth stage –destination choice–, and also 27 sources of information were included in the questionnaires sent to our sample of analysis composed of 1,621 tourists from the four main countries visiting Spain: France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom. The results confirm the prevalence of Internet search engines for destination choice and trip preparation phases, but also point out to the importance of recommendations from friends and family in the destination choice stage, of maps and plans during the trip, and of Facebook in the post-trip stage. It is also shown that, among the official channels of the destinations, only the website stands out as one of the most consulted sources

Metal-organic framework MIL-101(Cr) based mixed matrix membranes for esterification of ethanol and acetic acid in a membrane reactor

    Get PDF
Mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) based on the polyimide Matrimid® (PI) with metal-organic framework (MOF) MIL-101(Cr) as porous nanostructured filler were synthesized and applied as separation element in a membrane reactor to carry out the esterification of acetic acid with ethanol. The MMMs were characterized by techniques including X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. In order to compare the performance of MIL-101(Cr)-PI MMMs in the membrane reactor, pure PI and HKUST-1-PI membranes were also used. MMMs provided a better reactor performance than the bare PI membrane because of the increase in permeability associated to the presence of MOF as filler. The PI membrane reactor barely achieved the same conversion as a fixed bed reactor, while the MIL- 101(Cr)-PI membrane showed a reactor performance similar to that of the HKUST-1-PI membrane with higher stability, as confirmed by membrane characterization after the reaction experiments

Recruitment of Staufen2 Enhances Dendritic Localization of an Intron-Containing CaMKIIα mRNA

    Get PDF
Regulation of mRNA localization is a conserved cellular process observed in many types of cells and organisms. Asymmetrical mRNA distribution plays a particularly important role in the nervous system, where local translation of localized mRNA represents a key mechanism in synaptic plasticity. CaMKIIα is a very abundant mRNA detected in neurites, consistent with its crucial role at glutamatergic synapses. Here, we report the presence of CaMKIIα mRNA isoforms that contain intron i16 in dendrites, RNA granules, and synaptoneurosomes from primary neurons and brain. This subpopulation of unspliced mRNA preferentially localizes to distal dendrites in a synaptic-activity-dependent manner. Staufen2, a well-established marker of RNA transport in dendrites, interacts with intron i16 sequences and enhances its distal dendritic localization, pointing to the existence of intron-mediated mechanisms in the molecular pathways that modulate dendritic transport and localization of synaptic mRNAs.This work was funded by grants from the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness of Spain (BFU2014-52591-R CG) and the European Union (FEDER) to C.G

Microglial and neurogenic alterations in hypothalamus due to acute stress

This study was supported by FEDER/Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades – Agencia Estatal de Investigación from Spain (PSI2017-83408-P to Pedraza C.), and Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte from Spain (FPU16/05308 to Nieto-Quero A).Microglial cells are an important glial population known to be involved in several biological processes such as stress response. These cells engage an activated state following a stress insult that may lead to nervous tissue damage, including new cell generation impairment. This has been widely studied in regions with notable neurogenesis such as de hippocampus, however, the effect in other regions with fewer yet relevant neurogenesis remains partially unknown. One of them is the hypothalamus, a key vegetative control center playing an important role in stress response. Moreover, most of the stress models studied concern neuroinflammatory and neurogenic changes due to a chronic stressor but not a single stress event. Given the repercussion of these processes alone, it would be interesting to elucidate the relationship between microglial response, hypothalamic neurogenesis, and acute stress. This project focuses on studying acute stressed C57BL/6J mice, both at the histological and molecular level. An intense stressor combining water immersion and movement restriction was performed. Using immunohistochemical and molecular analysis with Luminex, we could analyze microglial distribution and morphology, neurogenesis, and inflammatory environment in the hypothalamic parenchyma (paraventromedial, ventromedial and arcuate nucleus).Universidad de Málaga.
