Due to the ageing of our population, the need for cataract surgery is increasing. It is generally considered to be a highly successful and cost-effective surgery. The technology of intraocular lenses (IOLs) is advancing as the objectives of the cataract surgery are becoming more embracing. We live in a digital era and patients’ lifestyles are different from 15 years ago. The retirement age is more advanced than before meaning more working hours. In addition, patients have more expectations about their vision and frequently desire the spectacle independence after cataract surgery. They do not expect any complication or unsatisfactory result. Nowadays, in consults eye care providers rely on subjective behavioral data about the patient lifestyle to assess refractive needs, selection of procedure and choice of IOLs. Will Vivior technology provide objective data for surgeons to select the best fit refractive solution according to patients needs and their lifestyle? Visual Behavior Monitor (VBM) consists of sensors measuring the distance, ambient light, head orientation and motion. It is clipped to prescription or clean spectacles and records the patient’s daily activity data for 3-5 days. Data processing is through machine learning algorithm. After downloading the data to the application, we can access our patient measured personal profile. Objective information about the distribution of visual distances helps eye care providers to understand patients’ lifestyles and vision needs. Therefore, it is possible to choose the best IOL solution for the patient. With Vivior Monitor patients will have a more realistic expectation of what their personalized vision solution can achieve. The objective of this work is to have a better understanding of the patients’ working distances and improve functional vision after cataract surgery based on a more objective pre-operative approach

Profiling the two most populous generations of the PIIGS countries in the workplace based in online consumption of cultural contents

The technological advances and the massive use of the Internet have led to the emergence of new business models based on the access online. One of the industries that most visibly had to adapt to the new reality was the production and dissemination of cultural contents, preparing for a consumer that is already native or casual digital. However, the new business model, especially, the one which implies access paid to cultural content, namely music, movies, TV series, images and news, does not still show a great success. In order to understand how the consumers of the generations X and Y (Millennials), from countries with unfavorable economic conditions, known as PIIGS, have adhered to the reality of online consumption of cultural content. The results from the Flash Eurobarometer 437: "Internet users' preferences for online accessing content" show the existence of three groups of consumers, and only one of them has a propensity to access paid content. Thus, by knowing the profiles of these three groups of consumers, it is possible to direct marketing campaigns tailored to each of them and to evaluate possible ways to convert consumers that only use of free services into consumers of paid services.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

The importance of developing transversal skills in a student's academic career arises mostly from the new demands of the labor market. Performance and competency management issues in organizations have changed in recent years. Hard skills used to be fundamental, but the paradigm has changed, and today something different is needed that keeps people in line with the demands of the world we live and work in, and increasingly facilitates the necessary interaction with other people. This is so called soft skills. As such, it is necessary to understand the level of adaptability of the higher education teaching model in view of this whole new labor market paradigm. Students' participation in Student Organizations enables them to further develop the skills sought by employers by engaging in different challenges and activities and especially through the level of commitment given to each of their responsibilities. This research aims to gather theoretical grounding on the topics described above and at the same time, through an online survey, obtain a personal opinion of several individuals with experience and active participation in student organizations, during their academic course. Thus, it has become evident, both through literary review and data collection, that participation in Student Organizations is increasingly important and should be valued by employers, given their ability to further develop than the teaching model of higher education, the skills required by the labor market.

On the induction of the four-dimensional Lorentz-breaking non-Abelian Chern-Simons action

A four-dimensional Lorentz-breaking non-Abelian Chern-Simons like action is generated as a one-loop perturbative correction via an appropriate Lorentz-breaking coupling of the non-Abelian gauge field to the spinor field. This term is shown to be regularization dependent but nevertheless it can be found unambiguously in different regularization schemes at zero and finite temperature.Comment: accepted version in Physical Review

Dissertation presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Information Management, specialization in Knowledge Management and Business IntelligenceThis master's thesis explores the impact of participatory budgeting (PB) on problem-solving within Lisbon Parishes, specifically examining the relationship between implemented PB projects and citizen complaints. Despite the overarching goal of PB to address community issues, its efficacy in problem resolution has remained uncertain. The study categorizes parishes based on success rates, revealing varying levels of impact. Results indicate positive outcomes in 54% of parishes, with distinct success in specific topics and parishes. However, the study acknowledges limitations, including a limited number of complaints and an incomplete understanding of complainer archetypes. The research underscores the importance of increased complaints and a broader participant profile for enhanced effectiveness in participatory budgeting. Additionally, the study establishes predictability in identifying winning projects through critical variables such as value, votes, complaints, number of residents, and education. The inclusion of residents and educational indicators further refines predictive accuracy. Furthermore, the study introduces the innovative use of concentration curves, classifying parishes into four segments based on success rates, where the 1st have 4 parishes. This novel approach provides a nuanced understanding of the distribution of PB impact across different parishes. The comprehensive analysis contributes to a deeper understanding of Participatory Budgeting, civic engagement, and the local context in Lisbon. The research calls attention to the importance of comprehensive data, diverse participant profiles, and increased public engagement in PB processes to foster successful problem-solving initiatives
