    Simulation and Track Reconstruction Techniques for the J-PARC muon g-2 experiment

    The Muon g-2/EDM proposed experiment at J-PARC is a promising and innovative attempt at the field of Precision Physics. The sensitivity goal of 0.1 ppm will test the limits of our current understanding, and may probe for Beyond the Standard Model observations. This paper seeks out to investigate the computational techniques required by the experiment. The GEANT4 [1] framework was used to simulate the detector setup, according to the experiment’s Conceptual Design Report (CDR) [2]. This allowed to observe the event hierarchy in different energies, generate signal hit data, and construct an event-selection algorithm. ROOT and GDML enabled us to use the geometry and parsed output data in a platform-independent way. Using techniques pertaining to Machine Learning and Image Feature extraction, such as the Canny Edge detection and the Hough Transform, we were able to construct a generic representation of ‘track families’ from each event category. Finally, the modular GENFIT2 [3] framework was used to implement the Kalman Filter [4] along with an Deterministic Annealing Filter (DAF) [5] and the Runge-Kutta stepper to reconstruct tracks from a few digitized, smeared singular event data

Pada penelitian ini dilakukan suatu penanganan kualitas produksi menggunakan metode Six Sigma. Terdiri dari fase Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve (DMAI) pada suatu Perusahaan yang bergerak dalam industri minyak goreng yaitu PT. X yang terletak di daerah Tanjung Perak, Surabaya. Penelitian ini mengambil fokus terhadap defect dari pembuatan botol 2000 ml. Perbaikan disarankan untuk mengurangi defect berdasarkan nilai RPN (Risk Priority Number) dari FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis). Dengan nilai RPN tertinggi 648 untuk kerusakan komponen di mesin ASB 2000 ml. Berdasarkan analisa yang dilakukan didapat kerusakan komponen diakibatkan umur ekonomis mesin yang sudah habis. Maka dilakukan analisa pengganti mesin dengan mesin baru Nissei PF4-1BH. Penggantian mesin dapat menghemat Rp 47.976.795, 7636 per tahun

    Mineral maturity and crystallinity index are distinct characteristics of bone mineral

    The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that mineral maturity and crystallinity index are two different characteristics of bone mineral. To this end, Fourier transform infrared microspectroscopy (FTIRM) was used. To test our hypothesis, synthetic apatites and human bone samples were used for the validation of the two parameters using FTIRM. Iliac crest samples from seven human controls and two with skeletal fluorosis were analyzed at the bone structural unit (BSU) level by FTIRM on sections 2–4 lm thick. Mineral maturity and crystallinity index were highly correlated in synthetic apatites but poorly correlated in normal human bone. In skeletal fluorosis, crystallinity index was increased and maturity decreased, supporting the fact of separate measurement of these two parameters. Moreover, results obtained in fluorosis suggested that mineral characteristics can be modified independently of bone remodeling. In conclusion, mineral maturity and crystallinity index are two different parameters measured separately by FTIRM and offering new perspectives to assess bone mineral traits in osteoporosis

    Principles for integrating reactive species into in vivo biological processes:examples from exercise physiology

    The equivocal role of reactive species and redox signaling in exercise responses and adaptations is an example clearly showing the inadequacy of current redox biology research to shed light on fundamental biological processes in vivo. Part of the answer probably relies on the extreme complexity of the in vivo redox biology and the limitations of the currently applied methodological and experimental tools. We propose six fundamental principles that should be considered in future studies to mechanistically link reactive species production to exercise responses or adaptations: 1) identify and quantify the reactive species, 2) determine the potential signaling properties of the reactive species, 3) detect the sources of reactive species, 4) locate the domain modified and verify the (ir)reversibility of post-translational modifications, 5) establish causality between redox and physiological measurements, 6) use selective and targeted antioxidants. Fulfilling these principles requires an idealized human experimental setting, which is certainly a utopia. Thus, researchers should choose to satisfy those principles, which, based on scientific evidence, are most critical for their specific research question

    Atmospheric cosmic ray induced ionization and radiation affecting aviation

    Cosmic radiation is a major factor of ionization of the Earth’s atmosphere. Both solar and galactic cosmic rays, which depend on solar activity and geomagnetic field, affect the radiation exposure in the atmosphere. Several models have been created for the estimation of the ionization and radiation dosimetry. In this work, as regards the ionization rate computations the CRAC:CRII model by the University of Oulu (https://cosmicrays.oulu.fi/CRII/CRII.html) was used, while for the estimation of the ambient equivalent dose rate (dH*(10)/dt) we used the validated software DYASTIMA / DYASTIMA-R by the University of Athens (http://cosray.phys.uoa.gr/index.php/applications/dyastima). Both tools are of great importance as they allow us to calculate the respective quantities all over the globe, at the entire atmosphere and for different time periods and solar cycle phases. The study concerns the last two solar cycles 23 and 24 (1996–2019) and specific flight levels of commercial aviation (FL310, FL350 and FL390). The dependance of CRII and dH*(10)/dt on geomagnetic cut-off rigidity, solar activity, cosmic ray intensity, as well as the altitude inside the atmosphere, affect the radiation exposure of the air crew members and frequent flyers, which make the results very interesting for the aviation industr

    String Tension and the Generation of the Conformal Anomaly

    The origin of the string conformal anomaly is studied in detail. We use a reformulated string Lagrangian which allows to consider the string tension T0T_{0} as a small perturbation. The expansion parameter is the worldsheet speed of light c, which is proportional to T0T_{0} . We examine carefully the interplay between a null (tensionless) string and a tensionful string which includes orders c2 c^{2} and higher. The conformal algebra generated by the constraints is considered. At the quantum level the normal ordering provides a central charge proportional to c2 c^{2} . Thus it is clear that quantum null strings respect conformal invariance and it is the string tension which generates the conformal anomaly.Comment: More references are included.     Direct mass measurements of 19B, 22C, 29F, 31Ne, 34Na and other light exotic nuclei

    We report on direct time-of-flight based mass measurements of 16 light neutron-rich nuclei. These include the first determination of the masses of the Borromean drip-line nuclei 19^{19}B, 22^{22}C and 29^{29}F as well as that of 34^{34}Na. In addition, the most precise determinations to date for 23^{23}N and 31^{31}Ne are reported. Coupled with recent interaction cross-section measurements, the present results support the occurrence of a two-neutron halo in 22^{22}C, with a dominant ν2s1/22\nu2s_{1/2}^2 configuration, and a single-neutron halo in 31^{31}Ne with the valence neutron occupying predominantly the 2p3/2p_{3/2} orbital. Despite a very low two-neutron separation energy the development of a halo in 19^{19}B is hindered by the 1d5/22d_{5/2}^2 character of the valence neutrons.Comment: 5 page
