Open ocean tide modelling
Two trends evident in global tidal modelling since the first GEOP conference in 1972 are described. The first centers on the incorporation of terms for ocean loading and gravitational self attraction into Laplace's tidal equations. The second centers on a better understanding of the problem of near resonant modelling and the need for realistic maps of tidal elevation for use by geodesists and geophysicists. Although new models still show significant differences, especially in the South Atlantic, there are significant similarities in many of the world's oceans. This allows suggestions to be made for future locations for bottom pressure gauge measurements. Where available, estimates of M2 tidal dissipation from the new models are significantly lower than estimates from previous models
Scaling ansatz, four zero Yukawa textures and large
We investigate 'Scaling ansatz' in the neutrino sector within the framework
of type I seesaw mechanism with diagonal charged lepton and right handed
Majorana neutrino mass matrices (). We also assume four zero texture of
Dirac neutrino mass matrices () which severely constrain the
phenomenological outcomes of such scheme. Scaling ansatz and the present
neutrino data allow only Six such matrices out of 126 four zero Yukawa
matrices. In this scheme, in order to generate large we break
scaling ansatz in through a perturbation parameter and we also show our
breaking scheme is radiatively stable. We further investigate CP violation and

High resolution charge-exchange spectroscopic measurements of aluminum impurity ions in a high temperature plasma
Charge-exchange recombination spectroscopy, which is generally used to measure low-Z impurities in fusion devices, has been used for measuring Al+11 and Al+13 impurities in the Madison Symmetric Torus reversed field pinch. To obtain the impurity ion temperature, the experimental emission spectrum is fitted with a model which includes fine structure in the atomic transition. Densities of these two ionization states, calculated from charge-exchange emission brightness, are used in combination with a collisional radiative model to estimate the abundance of all other charge states of aluminum in the plasma and the contribution of aluminum to the effective ionic charge of the plasma
When daily planning improves employee performance: the importance of planning type, engagement, and interruptions
Does planning for a particular workday help employees perform better than on other days they fail to plan? We investigate this question by identifying two distinct types of daily work planning to explain why and when planning improves employees’ daily performance.
The first type is time management planning (TMP)—creating task lists, prioritizing tasks, and determining how and when to perform them. We propose that TMP enhances employees’ performance by increasing their work engagement, but that these positive effects are weakened when employees face many interruptions in their day.
The second type is contingent planning (CP) in which employees anticipate possible interruptions in their work and plan for them. We propose that CP helps employees stay engaged and perform well despite frequent interruptions. We investigate these hypotheses using a two-week experience-sampling study. Our findings indicate that TMP’s positive effects are conditioned upon the amount of interruptions, but CP has positive effects that are not influenced by the level of interruptions.
Through this study, we help inform workers of the different planning methods they can use to increase their daily motivation and performance in dynamic work environments
The relationship between structural game characteristics and gambling behavior: a population-level study
The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between the structural characteristics and gambling behavior among video lottery terminal (VLT) gamblers. The study was ecological valid, because the data consisted of actual gambling behavior registered in the participants natural gambling environment without intrusion by researchers. Online behavioral tracking data from Multix, an eight game video lottery terminal, were supplied by Norsk-Tipping (the state owned gambling company in Norway). The sample comprised the entire population of Multix gamblers (N = 31,109) who had gambled in January 2010. The individual number of bets made across games was defined as the dependent variable, reward characteristics of a game (i.e., payback percentage, hit frequency, size of winnings and size of jackpot) and bet characteristics of a game (i.e., range of betting options and availability of advanced betting options) served as the independent variables. Control variables were age and gender. Two separate cross-classified multilevel random intercepts models were used to analyze the relationship between bets made, reward characteristics and bet characteristics, where the number of bets was nested within both individuals and within games. The results show that the number of bets is positively associated with payback percentage, hit frequency, being female and age, and negatively associated with size of wins and range of available betting options. In summary, the results show that the reward characteristics and betting options explained 27 % and 15 % of the variance in the number of bets made, respectively. the two-Higgs-doublet model. The radiative corrections to the polarization

Resonant Neutrino Spin-Flavor Precession and Supernova Nucleosynthesis and Dynamics
We discuss the effects of resonant spin-flavor precession (RSFP) of Majorana
neutrinos on heavy element nucleosynthesis in neutrino-heated supernova ejecta
and the dynamics of supernovae. In assessing the effects of RSFP, we explicitly
include matter-enhanced (MSW) resonant neutrino flavor conversion effects where
appropriate. We point out that for plausible ranges of neutrino magnetic
moments and proto-neutron star magnetic fields, spin-flavor conversion of
(or ) with a cosmologically significant mass (1--100 eV)
into a light could lead to an enhanced neutron excess in
neutrino-heated supernova ejecta. This could be beneficial for models of
-process nucleosynthesis associated with late-time neutrino-heated ejecta
from supernovae. Similar spin-flavor conversion of neutrinos at earlier epochs
could lead to an increased shock reheating rate and, concomitantly, a larger
supernova explosion energy. We show, however, that such increased neutrino
heating likely will be accompanied by an enhanced neutron excess which could
exacerbate the problem of the overproduction of the neutron number
nuclei in the supernova ejecta from this stage. In all of these scenarios, the
average energy will be increased over those predicted by supernova
models with no neutrino mixings. This may allow the SN1987a data to constrain

Untangling CP Violation and the Mass Hierarchy in Long Baseline Experiments
In the overlap region, for the normal and inverted hierarchies, of the
neutrino-antineutrino bi-probability space for appearance,
we derive a simple identity between the solutions in the (, ) plane for the different hierarchies. The
parameter sets the scale of the
appearance probabilities at the atmospheric eV whereas controls the amount of CP
violation in the lepton sector. The identity between the solutions is that the
difference in the values of for the two hierarchies equals twice
the value of divided by the {\it critical} value
of . We apply this identity to the two proposed
long baseline experiments, T2K and NOA, and we show how it can be used to
provide a simple understanding of when and why fake solutions are excluded when
two or more experiments are combined. The identity demonstrates the true

Implications of New Gallex Results for the MSW Solution of the Solar Neutrino Problem
We compare the implications for 7Be and pp neutrinos of the two MSW fits to
the new GALLEX solar neutrino measurements . Small mixing angle solutions tend
to suppress the former as electron-neutrinos, but not the latter, and large
angle solutions tend to reduce both by about a factor of 2. The consequences
for BOREXINO and similar solar neutrino--electron scattering experiments are
