Connected and disconnected: ICTs, peacebuilding and aesthetic practices of peripheral communities in Colombia

This thesis analyzes how Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) have been introduced in rural regions of Colombia for peacebuilding purposes and strengthening democracy, and how these have had an impact on the aesthetic practices of local communities. This research discusses theories about the relationship between technology and society, and it provides a critical perspective from the idea that technology solves social problems. Case studies of ICTs projects from the Soviet Union, Estonia, France, Finland, Chile and Paraguay are introduced and examined, to give an account of how similar processes took place in different contexts. Complex Chromosomal Rearrangements Mediated by Break-Induced Replication Involve Structure-Selective Endonucleases

This is an open-access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License.DNA double-strand break (DSB) repair occurring in repeated DNA sequences often leads to the generation of chromosomal rearrangements. Homologous recombination normally ensures a faithful repair of DSBs through a mechanism that transfers the genetic information of an intact donor template to the broken molecule. When only one DSB end shares homology to the donor template, conventional gene conversion fails to occur and repair can be channeled to a recombinationdependent replication pathway termed break-induced replication (BIR), which is prone to produce chromosome nonreciprocal translocations (NRTs), a classical feature of numerous human cancers. Using a newly designed substrate for the analysis of DSB–induced chromosomal translocations, we show that Mus81 and Yen1 structure-selective endonucleases (SSEs) promote BIR, thus causing NRTs. We propose that Mus81 and Yen1 are recruited at the strand invasion intermediate to allow the establishment of a replication fork, which is required to complete BIR. Replication template switching during BIR, a feature of this pathway, engenders complex chromosomal rearrangements when using repeated DNA sequences dispersed over the genome. We demonstrate here that Mus81 and Yen1, together with Slx4, also promote template switching during BIR. Interrelaciones entre la reconstrucción de la lógica y la noción pragmatista de verdad como "utilidad"

Teniendo como base una idea de experiencia más compleja, que encuentra antecedentes en los métodos de la ciencia moderna y en la biología darwiniana, Dewey señala la necesidad de actualizar y reconstruir la teoría lógica. Su nueva interpretación de las formas lógicas está íntimamente relacionada con la sustitución pragmatista de la noción de 'verdad' por la de 'utilidad'. Sin la noción de 'verdad por correspondencia' se convierte en un pseudo-problema la pregunta fundante de la epistemología y ya no hace falta dar una respuesta sobre la conexión entre las formas lógicas y el contenido. Para Dewey las formas lógicas tienen un tipo de contenido, hablan de las condiciones necesarias para que una investigación sea exitosa. La condición física salud del adulto mayor del Grupo Salud Comunidad Aeropuerto, Ciego de Ávila

The investigation was carried out through the method case study to the condition physical health of a mature adult incorporated to the group of health in the Community Airport of the Municipality of Blind of Ávila. The applied diagnosis allowed to obtain the fundamental data on the state of its condition physical health, arriving to approaches and opinions that from the scientific point of view, they  facilitated to design the physical activities to carry out for the one investigated, chords to its possibilities and individual capacities, contributing to improve its lifestyle.La investigación se realizó a través del método estudio de caso a la condición física salud de una adulta mayor, incorporada al grupo de salud en la Comunidad Aeropuerto del Municipio de Ciego de Ávila. Diferencias en memoria, afrontamiento y agresividad entre mujeres futbolistas, no futbolistas y hombres

Onzenes Jornades de Foment de la Investigació de la FCHS (Any 2005-2006)La idea de pensar que las mujeres que practican fútbol obtienen puntuaciones psicológicas diferenciadas del resto de mujeres, puede tener relevancia para la labor de un psicólogo en el ámbito aplicado. Se han encontrado varios estudios que intentan discernir las diferencias de género, pero tan solo un único trabajo que tiene en cuenta posibles diferencias entre ambos tipos de mujeres. Además, en algunos de ellos se resalta la necesidad de mayores investigaciones al respecto. Para ello, hemos obtenido 3 muestras de sujetos (25 hombres, 29 mujeres y 24 mujeres futbolistas) de edades comprendidas entre 16 y 26 años, de la Comunidad Valenciana y de la Comunidad de Aragón. Se midieron tres variables en las que, en estudios anteriores, se han encontrado diferencias de género. Estas son la memoria de trabajo, los estilos de afrontamiento y la agresividad. Éstas fueron obtenidas mediante los tests Escala de Inteligencia de Wechsler para Adultos (WAIS-III), Adolescent Coping Scale (ACS) y Aggression Questionnaire (AQ), respectivamente. Las diferencias predichas entre mujer y mujer futbolista se han encontrado únicamente en Memoria de Trabajo, no difiriendo éstas últimas de los hombres y una vez controlado el efecto de la edad. Además, se han replicado las diferencias de género en agresividad de tipo física y en los estilos de afrontamiento “buscar apoyo social” e “invertir en amigos íntimos”. A modo exploratorio se han encontrado nuevas diferencias significativas de género, en los estilos de afrontamiento “fijarse en lo positivo” y “buscar ayuda profesional” utilizando técnicas de comparación a posteriori
