Psychophysics of Artificial Neural Networks Questions Classical Hue Cancellation Experiments
We show that classical hue cancellation experiments lead to human-like
opponent curves even if the task is done by trivial (identity) artificial
networks. Specifically, human-like opponent spectral sensitivities always
emerge in artificial networks as long as (i) the retina converts the input
radiation into any tristimulus-like representation, and (ii) the post-retinal
network solves the standard hue cancellation task, e.g. the network looks for
the weights of the cancelling lights so that every monochromatic stimulus plus
the weighted cancelling lights match a grey reference in the (arbitrary) color
representation used by the network. In fact, the specific cancellation lights
(and not the network architecture) are key to obtain human-like curves: results
show that the classical choice of the lights is the one that leads to the best
(more human-like) result, and any other choices lead to progressively different
spectral sensitivities. We show this in two ways: through artificial
psychophysics using a range of networks with different architectures and a
range of cancellation lights, and through a change-of-basis theoretical analogy
of the experiments. This suggests that the opponent curves of the classical
experiment are just a by-product of the front-end photoreceptors and of a very
specific experimental choice but they do not inform about the downstream color
representation. In fact, the architecture of the post-retinal network (signal
recombination or internal color space) seems irrelevant for the emergence of
the curves in the classical experiment. This result in artificial networks
questions the conventional interpretation of the classical result in humans by

Radiative corrections to the τ−→(P1P2)−ντ (P1,2=π,K) decays
Altres ajuts: IFAE is partially funded by the CERCA program of the Generalitat de Catalunya. J. A. M. is also supported by MICINN with funding from European Union NextGenerationEU (PRTR-C17.I1) and by Generalitat de CatalunyaThe radiative corrections to the τ−→(P1P2)−ντ (P1,2=π,K) decays are calculated for the first time. The structure-dependent contributions are obtained using Resonance Chiral Theory. Our results, whose uncertainty is dominated by the model-independent corrections, enable precise tests of CKM unitarity, lepton flavor universality, and non-standard interactions

Design and validation of an observational instrument to assess the technical execution in top-rope climbing
The aim of this study was to design and validate an observational instrument to assess the technical execution in top-rope climbing. This observational instrument allows researchers to assess the progression of climbers in relation to the achievement of key aspects of climbing movements. Firstly, a review of the specialized literature was performed to establish a set of criteria for observation. Secondly, content validation was carried out through the agreement and consensus method among ten expert judges at the qualitative level (degree of understanding, appropriateness of wording, relevance of questions, etc.), and quantitative level (global assessment on a scale from 0 to 10). Thirdly, this instrument was applied to a sample of seven climbers on an indoor climbing wall. Reliability was calculated through the application of the test-retest method. The results indicated that the instrument has optimal levels of reliability and validity for evaluating the technical execution of beginning climbers. The instrument can be considered as a useful tool which could be applied by instructors and teachers for discriminating the learning stage in beginning climbers

Asphalt solar collectors: A literature review
Asphalt pavements subject to solar radiation can reach high temperatures causing not only environmental problems such as the heat island effect on cities but also structural damage due to rutting or hardening as a result of thermal cycles. Asphalt solar collectors are doubly effective active systems: as they solve the previously mentioned problems and, moreover, they can harness energy to be used in different applications. The main findings of the existing research on asphalt solar collectors are gathered together in this review paper. Firstly, the main heat transfer mechanisms involved in the solar energy collection process are identified and the most important parameters and variables are presented. After analyzing the theoretical foundations of the heat transfer process, this review focuses on the types of studies carried out so far on asphalt’s thermal behavior, different methodologies employed by other authors to study asphalt solar collectors and influence of the variables involved in thermal energy harvesting
