[EN] As a consequence of our current taxonomic remodeling of the Asidini tribe we are doing, the specific composition and systematic position of the subgenres Elongasida Escalera, 1906 and Pseudoelongasida Escalera, 1922, they had already changed in relation to what was pointed out in the last Catalogue of Palaearctic Coleoptera from Löbl & Smetana. Elongasida has lost the species A. asperata Solier, 1836 and A. inesperata Escalera, 1921 incorporated to subgenre Glabrasida and subgenre Pseudoelongasida has gone from being a subgenre of genre Asida to be a subgenre of genre Alphasida, recovering like valid the species A. tenuecostata Fairmaire, 1880 that had been previously considered incertae sedis. In this work a revision of the two subgenera is made and it is proposed the fusion of both in the unique subgenre Elongasida that would become Iberian-Moroccan. Pseudoelongasida becomes a new synonymia and the new subgenus resulting from the fusion has twelve species: two North Africans, eight Iberians already known and two new species described here, preserved as nomen in litteris in the collections of MNCN of Madrid: Alphasida (Elongasida) levantina sp. nov. and Alphasida (Elongasida) moroderi sp. nov.Peer reviewe

Self-paced cycling improves cognition on institutionalized older adults without known cognitive impairment: A 15-month randomized controlled trial

    Get PDF
This study aimed at identifying the effects of self-paced cycling on the cognitive and functional status and fall risk on institutionalized older adults without cognitive impairment. A total of 39 individuals were randomly assigned to an exercise group or to a control group. The exercise group participants cycled at their self-selected intensity at least for 15 min daily during 15 months. The control group participants performed recreational activities. The Mini-Mental State Examination, Fuld object memory evaluation, and symbol digit modality test were used for cognitive assessments. The Katz index, the timed "Up & Go" test, and the World Health Organization questionnaire were used to assess functional independence, mobility, and fall risk. Significant improvements were observed in the exercise group for global cognition and attention, visual scanning, and processing speed. Long-term self-paced cycling training seems to have a protective effect on cognitive status and attention, visual scanning, and processing speed in older institutionalized individuals

Dynamic positional deformity of the hallux is a relatively new disease, precisely because of its innovative nature and dynamics may go unnoticed to clinicians. It is because of this, that the limited literature available stresses the importance of making an active search for this pathology in our daily practice. The purpose of this study is to estimate the prevalence of these deformities at the University Hospital Dr. Peset of Valencia as well as make an analysis of their management. An analytical, descriptive and retrospective study was designed in which patients admitted in our center during 2014 and 2015 with medium and distal third tibia fracture were analyzed searching for dynamics positional deformities of the hallux. We found a total of 5 compatible cases from 42 analyzed tibia fractures. This may indicate that as expected dynamic positional deformity of the hallux could be an underrated disease in our medium

Introducing the discussant role to stimulate debate in the classroom: effects on interactivity, learning outcomes, satisfaction and attitudes

    Get PDF
Debates can help students to acquire cross-curricular competencies and improve their learning. However, their use in higher education is scarce and students’ acceptance is low. Considering the effectiveness of discussants in scientific conferences, this research introduces the discussant role as a teaching tool to revitalise debate in the classroom. We propose and test a model to analyse the effects of this activity on three important aspects of learning (interactivity, learning outcomes and satisfaction). We examine how these variables determine students’ attitudes towards the two roles that can be adopted in the activity (discussant or discussed) and their overall evaluation. We test the model regarding students’ expectations and perceptions in the aftermath of the activity. Results show significant relationships between interactivity, learning and satisfaction. Moreover, the three factors strongly determine attitudes and overall evaluation of the activity. Differences before and after experiencing the activity are also found

This study aims to analyze the impact of management variables (Service Quality, Perceived Value and General Satisfaction) and variables of disability itself (origin and type of disability) on the future intentions to attend again of disabled athletes. This is a particularly interesting study taking into account the limited existing literature, the inclusion of disability variables in the analysis and due to the combination of traditional regression models and fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis models (fsQCA). The sample of this study consisted of 231 disabled athletes participating in 14 sports competitions during 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 seasons. The hierarchical regression model suggests that management variables seem more relevant than those related to the disability itself. Meanwhile, based on the results of the fsQCA model, the only necessary condition for future intentions to return to the event is not having a visual impairment, while the most explanatory sufficient condition results from the combination of having a disability from birth, high perceived value, high general satisfaction and high service quality

The end of the demographic dividend in Latin America: challenges for economic and social policies

    Get PDF
Artículo de revistaPopulation ageing is a major global challenge. The Latin American economies have a younger population structure than other emerging and advanced economies, which has allowed them to enjoy the so-called demographic dividend (a favourable working age/non-working age population ratio). However, according to the latest demographic projections of the United Nations (UN), it is estimated that in 2020 the Latin American population pyramid will resemble that of the advanced economies in 1990 and that, by around 2050, both groups will have similar population profiles. This article documents the current demographic trends in Latin America and discusses the main related challenges, in particular, those arising from the adaptation of social welfare systems to population ageing

[Abstract] Reducing both the energy consumption and CO2 emissions of buildings is nowadays one of the main objectives of society. The use of heating and cooling equipment is among the main causes of energy consumption. Therefore, reducing their consumption guarantees such a goal. In this context, the use of adaptive setpoint temperatures allows such energy consumption to be significantly decreased. However, having reliable data from an external temperature probe is not always possible due to various factors. This research studies the estimation of such temperatures without using external temperature probes. For this purpose, a methodology which consists of collecting data from 10 weather stations of Galicia is carried out, and prediction models (multivariable linear regression (MLR) and multilayer perceptron (MLP)) are applied based on two approaches: (1) using both the setpoint temperature and the mean daily external temperature from the previous day; and (2) using the mean daily external temperature from the previous 7 days. Both prediction models provide adequate performances for approach 1, obtaining accurate results between 1 month (MLR) and 5 months (MLP). However, for approach 2, only the MLP obtained accurate results from the 6th month. This research ensures the continuity of using adaptive setpoint temperatures even in case of possible measurement errors or failures of the external temperature probe
