KBE Application for the Design and Manufacture of HSM Fixtures

    Get PDF
The design of machining fixtures for aeronautical parts is strongly based in the knowledge of the fixture designer, and it comprises certain repetitive tasks. An analysis of the design process allows us to state its suitability for developing Knowledge Based Engineering (KBE) applications in order to capture the knowledge, and to systematize and automate the designs. This work justifies the importance of fixtures for High Speed Milling (HSM), and explains the development of a KBE application to automate the design and manufacturing of such elements. The application is the outcome of a project carried out in collaboration with the company EADS.In the development process, a specific methodology was used in order to represent the knowledge in a semi-structured way and to document the information needed to define the system. The developed KBE application is independent of the parts design system. This makes it necessary to use an interface to input the part geometry into the KBE application, where it is analyzed in order to extract the relevant information for the fixture design process. The results obtained from the application come in three different ways: raw material drawings, fixture 3D solid models, and text files (Bill Of Materials – BOM, and Numerical Control – NC programs). All the results are exported to other applications for use in other tasks. The designer interacts with the application through an ad hoc interface, where he is asked to select or input some data and where the results are also visualized. The prototype KBE application has been carried out in the ICAD development environment and the main interface is with the CAD/CAM system CATIA V4.

Diagnostic imaging techniques of the respiratory tract of sheep

    Get PDF
Diagnostic imaging techniques are very useful non-invasive methods to obtain medical images for the diagnosis of respiratory diseases in sheep. The use of ultrasound and thermographic cameras must be enhanced at farm level with the objective of assisting in the diagnosis of major respiratory diseases present in sheep farms. X-ray and, particularly, computed tomography are very interesting tools to facilitate the understanding of the main pathological processes in sheep, especially at the respiratory level. This article shows more than 40 images of thermograms, X-ray, ultrasonography and computed tomography of the most significant respiratory diseases in sheep

Epifisiolisis de cabeza de radio asociadas a luxación de codo y reducción espontánea

    Get PDF
We have done a retrospective study of ten cases of radial head epiphysiolysis occurred between 1992 and 1997, displaced more than 60º. (O'Brien's grade III). Amongst them we have selected those which were displaced more than 90º (six cases) probably occurred after an elbow luxation or after the spontaneous reduction of an elbow luxation; because the are more infrequent, more troublesome and they give more secuelae. Our aim is to evaluate the results obtained with the treatment and to review the literature

Evaluation of hydrodynamic chromatography coupled to inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry for speciation of dissolved and nanoparticulate gold and silver

    Get PDF
In this study, hydrodynamic chromatography coupled to inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry has been evaluated for the simultaneous determination of dissolved and nanoparticulate species of gold and silver. Optimization of mobile phase was carried out with special attention to the column recovery of the different species and the resolution between them. Addition of 0.05 mM penicillamine to the mobile phase allowed the quantitative recovery of ionic gold and gold nanoparticles up to 50 nm, whereas 1 mM penicillamine was necessary for quantitative recovery of ionic silver and silver nanoparticles up to 40 nm. The resolution achieved between ionic gold and 10-nm gold nanoparticles was 0.7, whereas it ranged between 0.31 and 0.93 for ionic silver and 10-nm silver nanoparticles, depending on the composition of mobile phase. Best-case mass concentration detection limits for gold and silver species were 0.05 and 0.75 µg L-1, respectively. The developed methods allowed the simultaneous detection of nanoparticulate and dissolved species of gold and silver in less than 10 min. Size determination and quantification of gold and silver species were carried out in different dietary supplements, showing good agreement with the results obtained by electron microscopy and total and ultrafiltrable contents, respectively. Due to the attainable resolution, the quality of the quantitative results is affected by the relative abundance of nanoparticulate and dissolved species of the element and the size of the nanoparticles if present.

    Get PDF
In this work we present the results of an analysis applied to identification of landslides features using remote sensing techniques in rock masses at the Betic Cordilleras. Several techniques are used to facilitate an approach to landslide identification, from enhancement and textural filtering of panchromatic images, to colour compositions and fusions, vegetation index (NDVI), and principal component analysis of multi-spectral imagery, corresponding to different sensors (Landsat ETM, Spot 5 and Ikonos). By means a GIS analysis, we compute basic statistics of whole images and pixels corresponding to different landslides typologies (rock falls, rock slides and debris flows) and in addition Kolmogorov-Smirnov coefficient to estimate the correlation between images and movements. Some correlations are observed, being besides the spectral signature different depending on landslides typology. Rock falls appear in darker zones of images while rock slides and especially debris flows appear in clearer zones. In this way, digital classification allows identify landslides scarps, but partially mixed with other land-uses such as soils, fresh rock and alluvial materials. The employment of textural filters, that present higher values in landslides zones, resolves this confusion. The conclusion is the need of combining digital classification and textural analysis to identify landslide features or mobilized areas

Arylisoquinoline-derived organoboron dyes with a triaryl skeleton show dual fluorescence

[EN] Four new dyes that derive from borylated arylisoquinolines were prepared, containing a third aryl residue (naphthyl, 4-methoxynaphthyl, pyrenyl or anthryl) that is linked via an additional stereogenic axis. The triaryl cores were synthesized by Suzuki couplings and then transformed into boronic acid esters by employing an Ir(I)-catalyzed reaction. The chromophores show dual emission behavior, where the long-wavelength emission band can reach maxima close to 600 nm in polar solvents. The fluorescence quantum yields of the dyes are generally in the range of 0.2¿0.4, reaching in some cases values as high as 0.5¿0.6. Laserflash photolysis provided evidence for the existence of excited triplet states. The dyes form fluoroboronate complexes with fluoride anions, leading to the observation of the quenching of the long-wavelength emission band and ratiometric response by the build-up of a hypsochromically shifted emission signal.Funding by the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry, and Competitiveness (CTQ2014-54729-C2-1-P for U.P., CTQ2013-48164-C2-1-P and CTQ2013-48164-C2-2-P for A.R., Ramon y Cajal contracts RYC-2013-12585 for A.R. and RYC-2015-17737 for I.V.), the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities (CTQ2017-89832-P for U.P., CTQ2016-78875-P for M.C.J., and CTQ2017-89416-R for I.V.), the European Research and Development Fund, and the Andalusian Government (2012/FQM-2140 for U.P., 2009/FQM-4537 and 2012/FQM-1078 for A.R) is gratefully acknowledged.
