Measurement of Open Beauty Production at LHC with CMS

At the LHC new opportunities to improve our understanding of the physics of the b quark will become available because of the high statistics data samples and the high center-of-mass energy that the new accelerator will provide. The CMS collaboration will measure the cross section for inclusive b production in proton-proton collisions at 14 TeV. A study has been performed to investigate methods of identifying b jets (b "tagging") in an inclusive sample of events containing jets and at least one muon. We present CMS capability to measure the inclusive b production cross section as function of B-hadron transverse momentum and pseudorapidity

Abstract. It is generally considered that most long duration GRB come from Cosmological Distances. We show how the effects of a significant cosmological con stant and evolution can help provide an explanation to one of the puzzling effects of the Hardness vs Duration and intensity of the current BATSE 4B Catalogue. We also show that the Universe with f2A = 0.7andf2M = 0.3 behaves like an empty Universe for z < 3 and we show that InN vs InS distribution for GRB's is consistent with this behaViour if source evolution is included. This could imply f2A is not zero in a model of the Galactic Evolution

The production cross section of electrons from semileptonic decays of beauty hadrons was measured at mid-rapidity (|y| < 0.8) in the transverse momentum range 1 < pt < 8 Gev/c with the ALICE experiment at the CERN LHC in pp collisions at a center of mass energy sqrt{s} = 7 TeV using an integrated luminosity of 2.2 nb^{-1}. Electrons from beauty hadron decays were selected based on the displacement of the decay vertex from the collision vertex. A perturbative QCD calculation agrees with the measurement within uncertainties. The data were extrapolated to the full phase space to determine the total cross section for the production of beauty quark-antiquark pairs
