Migración de retorno, familias transnacionales y demandas educativas

Migration from Mexico to the United States is increasingly familiar. This indicates that in recent years children and adolescents born in Mexico and the United States move between the two countries to satisfy their educational demands. Return migration, caused by the crisis in the labor market in the United States, or by deportation due to their illegal status, creates new scenarios and ‘actors' that causes more complex problems in Mexican society. The increasing presence of students with educational experience, but with a differentiated social, cultural and familial background, brings changing identities and comparative visions that impede their social integration and school performance, and merge them in a cognitive dissonance state. The challenge for the school to meet is considerable and transcends national boundaries. This paper highlights the inescapable link between these students with their transnational family context. The field work was based on the school experience, in which students, school administration, teachers, parents, and representantes of the "Programa Binacional de Educación Migrante México - Estados Unidos", came together. This exploratory research uses an inductive methodology. The findings are analyzed under a transnational focus and provide us with general references regarding the studied problems.La migración de México hacia Estados Unidos es crecientemente familiar. Esto implica que en los últimos años menores y adolescentes nacidos en México y en Estados Unidos se mueven entre los dos países con demandas educativas. La migración de retorno causada por la crisis del mercado laboral en Estados Unidos, o por la deportación debido a su condición de ilegalidad, crean nuevos escenarios y actores que complejizan la sociedad mexicana. La presencia creciente de estudiantes con antecedentes y experiencia educativa, social, cultural y familiar diferenciada, trae consigo identidades cambiantes y visiones comparativas que dificultan su integración social y rendimiento escolar, y les sumergen en estados de disonancia cognitiva. El desafío para una escuela ajena a sus necesidades es grande y trasciende fronteras. El artículo destaca la ineludible vinculación de estos/as estudiantes con la de su contexto familiar transnacional. El trabajo de campo se centró en la experiencia de la escuela en donde confluyen los/as estudiantes binacionales, personal administrativo, profesores/as, padres de familia y responsables del Programa Binacional de Educación Migrante México - Estados Unidos. La investigación es exploratoria con una metodología inductiva. Los hallazgos son analíticamente observados bajo el enfoque transnacional y proveen de referentes generales a la problemática estudiada

Genomics of Apicomplexa

Apicomplexa is a eukaryotic phylum of intracellular parasites with more than 6000 species. Some of these single-celled parasites are important pathogens of livestock. At present, 128 genomes of phylum Apicomplexa have been reported in the GenBank database, of which 17 genomes belong to five genera that are pathogens of farm animals: Babesia, Theileria, Eimeria, Neospora and Sarcocystis. These 17 genomes are Babesia bigemina (five chromosomes), Babesia divergens (514 contigs) and Babesia bovis (four chromosomes and one apicoplast); Theileria parva (four chromosomes and one apicoplast), Theileria annulata (four chromosomes), Theileria orientalis (four chromosomes and one apicoplast) and Theileria equi (four chromosomes and one apicoplast); Eimeria brunetti (24,647 contigs), Eimeria necatrix (4667 contigs), Eimeria tenella (12,727 contigs), Eimeria acervulina (4947 contigs), Eimeria maxima (4570 contigs), Eimeria mitis (65,610 contigs) and Eimeria praecox (53,359 contigs); Neospora caninum (14 chromosomes); and Sarcocystis neurona strains SN1 (2862 contigs) and SN3 (3191 contigs). The study of these genomes allows us to understand their mechanisms of pathogenicity and identify genes that encode proteins as a possible vaccine antigen

Proceso de internacionalización de compañía multinacional de un país en desarrollo: las decisiones de inversión extranjera directa del Grupo Bimbo

There is a lack of extended knowledge on internationalizationtheories applied to developing countries firms (DCF) within the internationalbusiness field. This paper explains the drivers of the internationalinvestment behavior of world leader baking company Bimbo and therelevance that the main internationalization theories have in the foreigndirect investment (FDI) decisions. Ownership, Locational and Internalization(OLI) advantages, as well as the Uppsala model, will be explainedand compared to the Bimbo’s internationalization path. Furthermore,Bimbo’s international operations are summarized and presentedchronologically. Finally, a comparison between the above mentionedtheories and the company’s behavior is provided, and the conclusion thatDunning’s (2000) eclectic paradigm explains the firm’s internationalizationis suggested.En el campo de investigación en negocios internacionales hay unaescasez de conocimiento extendido sobre teorías de internacionalizaciónaplicadas a multinacionales de países emergentes. Este artículo explicalas causas de la conducta de inversión internacional del Grupo Bimbo,líder mundial en la industria panadera, y la relevancia que tienen lasprincipales teorías de internacionalización en las decisiones de inversiónextranjera directa. El modelo Upsala y las ventajas de propiedad, locacióne internalización que constituyen el modelo ecléctico serán explicados ycomparados con el proceso de internacionalización del Grupo Bimbo,que se presentará cronológicamente. El comportamiento social consistente en un conglomerado de medios : Los casos de Walt Disney Company, Time Warner y News Corporation, Viacom y Grupo Prisa

Nowadays, several authors question the increasing importance and influence of media conglomerates on society, especially because of the proximity between the media and Multinational Corporations (MNC). Globalization has set the ground for the media industry to become more influential than ever,  however, as its power increases, stakeholders became more aware of the social responsibility that these companies are supposed to evidence. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) within the media conglomerates has not been strongly developed in order to encourage policies that regulate their role in the fields of education, environment, politics nd their own accountability. This paper presents the CSR actions that the most influential media companies have carried out, as well as the main scandals they have faced. Walt Disney Company, Time Warner, news Corporation, Viacom and Prisa Group are the companies that due to their influence and revenues were included in this study.Actualmente, algunos autores cuestionan la creciente importancia e influencia de los conglomerados de medios de comunicación en la sociedad, especialmente por la proximidad que tienen con las Corporaciones Multinacionales. La Globalización ha establecido la base que le ha permitido a la industria de los medios de comunicación convertirse en un agente de influencia cada vez mayor. Sin embargo, a medida que su poder crece, los accionistas están más interesados en la responsabilidad social que este tipo de compañías debería ofrecer. La Responsabilidad Social Empresarial (CSR, por sus siglas en inglés) presente en estos conglomerados no ha sido fuertemente desarrollada en el incentivo de políticas de regulación en áreas como la educación, el medio ambiente, la política e incluso el manejo de su contabilidad. Este artículo presenta las acciones de CSR que las compañías más importantes de esta naturaleza han llevado a cabo y, del mismo modo, los escándalos que han enfrentado. Partitioning approach for large wind farms: active power control for optimizing power reserve

To this end, wind farm controllers must set the power generation of each turbine to compensate generation and demand imbalances. With the aim of optimizing primary frequency support, this paper proposes a partitioning approach to split large wind farms into several disjoint subsets of turbines according to the wake propagations through the wind farm. The partitioning problem is solved as a mixed-integer multi-objective optimization problem stated to maximize the strength of the coupling among the turbines due to the wake effect. Thus, no additional information sharing related to the wake propagations needs to be considered between the subsets. Different control tasks are assigned to the local controller of each subset, such that the total power generated meets the power demanded by the grid while the power reserve for enhancing primary frequency support is maximized. Finally, as an application of the proposed model, a decentralized wind farm control strategy is designed and compared with a centralized approach.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

The genus Xenaclopus Arrow (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae): redescription and removal from the Aclopinae, with systematic notes

The monotypic genus Xenaclopus Arrow is redescribed and illustrated, based in its lectotype and paralectotypes.
