Museos de historia y producción de conocimientos: cuestiones para el debate (Debates)

The article thinks over the role of museums in the construction of scientific and historical representations and as a space that connects the forms of visualizing the past and the construction of historic knowledge. Also analyzes the museum as a setting of tension between the visualization and the generation of scientific or historical knowledge; and between the forms of evoking-representing and the sensitive cognitive processes that it activates in museum audiences. This oscillation takes place in the Museo Paulista.

On the kernel estimation of a multivariate distribution function under positive dependence

    Get PDF
In this paper, we consider the kernel estimator of the p-dimensional marginal distribution function of a stationary, positively associated sequence of random variables. For this setting, we state results concerning the asymptotic behaviour of this estimator extending some characterizations available in the literature. In addition, we present a simulation study about the empirical process constructed from such a estimator illustrating its asymptotic normality.Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologi

On the multivariate kernel distribution estimator for distribution functions under association

    Get PDF
In this note we consider the estimation of the multivariate distribution function Fp of the p-dimensional marginal of a stationary associated sequence. We show, under certain regularity conditions, the almost sure consistency and characterize the asymptotic behavior of the MSE. We also characterize the asymptotic optimal bandwidth. Under some stronger assumptions on the covariance this bandwidth rate is shown to be the same as for the independent case.Centro de Matemática da Universidade do Minho (CMAT).Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) - Programa Operacional Ciência e Inovação (POCI) - 2010

    CoR's Faster Route over Myrinet

    Get PDF
In this paper we concentrate in the efforts made to exploit the performance of Myrinet to build a faster communication route into CoR1. By accessing the Myrinet interface through GM2, we achieved low latency and high bandwidth message passing without the overhead of a higher level protocol stack, system calls or interrupts. CoR is an ongoing project unique in its design goal of combining multithreading, message passing and distributed shared memory with facilities to dynamically select from different transport media and protocols the one that best fits communication and interaction requirements. The ability to mix CoR and PVM calls in the same program brings numerous benefits to the application developer familiar with PVM, notably: 1) new transport communication layers; PvmRouteMyrinet and PvmRouteUdp; 2) migration mechanisms for exploiting fine grain message passing; 3) thread-safe communication PVM API; 4) object-oriented distributed shared memory

Social functions and working opportunities for information professionals

    Get PDF
In the context of the new communication economy, that has the net as its icon, there are discussed social functions and new profiles for the information professionals, including librarians. Among the social functions put into discussion are the educational role and the mediator's role. The first relates to the literacy in information and the second to the role of cultural "animator" and collective intelligence moderator in the society. Among the professional profiles, specially in organizations, there are discussed briefly the following: information manager; knowledge worker; knowledge manager and engineer; information specialists. It is concluded that there is no such a thing as an unique information professional profile, similar to an "universal soldier", who would attend all the information and knowledge needs and demands in organizations and society. There are roles to be fulfilled and specific demands for information professionals with a variety of known and emerging profiles, but that have as common objective - the work with information and knowledge, adding value to the first and facilitating the access and transferring information and knowledge for all

pCoR - a protoype for resource oriented computing

    Get PDF
In this paper we present CoR a resource oriented computing model that address the question of how to integrate user-level fine-grained multithreading, communication and coordination into a cluster of symmetrical multiprocessor computers. To support the design of complex distributed application using the proposed paradigm we built pCoR a run-time system which has new areas that represents extensions to the strict shared memory and message passing models supported by other platforms: remote operations, dynamic domains, communication ports, multithreading management, shared memory, replication and partition are some of its distinguished features. In addition, it provides a thread-safe transport communication layer to take advantage of modern high-performance commodity hardware/software like Myrinet network
