Speed control of an SPMSM using a tracking differentiator-PID controller scheme with a genetic algorithm

    Get PDF
In this paper, a tracking differentiator-proportional integral and derivative (TD-PID) control scheme is proposed to control the speed of a surface mount permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM). The TD is used to generate the necessary transient profile for both the reference and the output speed, which are compared with each other to produce the error signals that feed into the PID controller. In addition to the TD unit parameters, the PID controller’s parameters are tuned to achieve the optimum new multi-objective performance index, comprised of the integral of the time absolute error (ITAE), the absolute square of the control energy signal (USQR), and the absolute value of the control energy signal (UABS) and utilizing a genetic algorithm (GA). A nonlinear model of the SPMSM is considered in the design and the performance of the proposed TD-PID scheme was validated by comparing its performance with that of a traditional PI controller in a MATLAB environment. Different case studies were tested to show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme, results including peak overshoot, energy consumption, control signal chatter, and 30% improvement in the OPI, with variable reference speeds, load torque, and parameters uncertainties. Illustrate the proposed scheme's success compared with PI controller

Improved Water-Filling Power Allocation for Energy-Efficient Massive MIMO Downlink Transmissions

Energy Efficiency (EE) is becoming increasingly important for wireless communications and has caught more attention due to steadily rising energy costs and environmental concerns. Recently, a new network architecture known as Massive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) has been proposed with the remarkable potential to achieve huge gains in EE with simple linear processing. In this paper, a power allocation algorithm is proposed for EE to achieve the optimal EE in Massive MIMO. Based on the simplified expression, we develop a new algorithm to compute the optimal power allocation algorithm and it has been compared with the existing scheme from the previous literature. An improved water filling algorithm is proposed and embedded in the power allocation algorithm to maximize EE and Spectral Efficiency (SE). The numerical analysis of the simulation results indicates an improvement of 40% in EE and 50% in SE at the downlink transmission, compared to the other existing schemes. Furthermore, the results revealed that SE does not influence the EE enhancement after using the proposed algorithm as the number of Massive MIMO antenna at the Base Station (BS) increases

    Get PDF
Subsidized liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) policies aim to ensure the efficient and effective supply and distribution of LPG so that the benefits of subsidies are on target. However, there is a gap between planned policies and actual reality. However, in order to achieve better governance of subsidized LPG policies, the causes of inconsistencies must be analyzed by the government. In this paper, we analyze the governance of subsidized LPG policies based on an institutional theory approach using the three levels of analysis and outcomes framework to find out the causes of policy inconsistencies by exploring policy structures and subsidized LPG management. The author proposes that this framework should be integrated into the improvement of subsidized LPG management and strategies. Further research is needed to analyze the impact and consequences of LPG transformation policies to estimate the benefits and challenges of implementing policy reforms. The breeding performance of barn owl, Tyto alba javanica, in areas treated with rodenticides in immature oil palms in Malaysia was investigated. Four plots were established, each at least 100 ha in size and treated with warfarin, brodifacoum, a biorodenticide (Sarcocystis singaporensis) and a non-baited control plot. Three rat baiting campaigns, which coincided with the barn owl breeding season, were carried out in October 2008, February and March 2009, and in October 2009. The nest boxes were distributed at a mean density of one unit per 25 ± 3.83 ha. The clutch size, hatching and fledging rates of barn owls in each plot was monitored monthly from September 2008 to January 2010. There was no significant difference in mean clutch size for all four treatments. The lowest percentage of hatching success was recorded in the brodifacoum-treated plot in all three breeding seasons. Fledging success was highest in the control plot, followed by the S. singaporensis-, warfarin- and brodifacoum-treated plots. The mean clutch size and mean hatching success was not significantly correlated with mean rat damage (clutch size, r = 0.754, p > 0.05; mean hatching success, r = 0.832; p > 0.05). The mean fledging success was significantly correlated with mean rat damage (r = 0.969; p < 0.05). Brodifacoum achieved the lowest level of rat damage but not significantly lower than warfarin and S. singaporensis. This indicates that S. singaporensis is a better rodenticide than warfarin and brodifacoum in controlling rats and yet achieved the highest reproductive rates in the baited areas as reflected by the rate of fledging success

The growth of nestling barn owls, Tyto Alba javanica in immature oil palm in Malaysia was investigated under rat baiting with three different rodenticides. Four treatment plots were established with three plots baited each with warfarin, brodifacoum and a protozoan based biorodenticide, Sarcocystis singaporensis plus a fourth non-baited control plot. Three rat baiting campaign were carried out during the study, the first rat baiting campaign was conducted in October 2008, the second was in March 2009 (except for biorodenticide baiting was conducted a month earlier), and the last third baiting campaign in October 2009. The baiting campaigns coincided with the breeding season of barn owl. Nestlings body measurements namely: body mass, culmen length, tarsus length, wing length and tail length were taken after the third baiting campaign, from September 2009 to January 2010. Measurements were recorded every three days from hatching up until 49 days old, i.e., several days before fledging. Nestlings in control plot showed superior for all parameter taken compared to rodenticides treated plots. Body mass of nestlings in control plot were heavier by 8.17%, 13.04%, and 6.88% compared to warfarin, brodifacoum and biorodenticide treated plots respectively. The culmen and tarsus length of nestling barn owls reached the adult size during the growth period; while culmen length in control plot was longer by 3.07%, 5.28%, and 1.41% compared to warfarin, brodifacoum and biorodenticide treated plots respectively. The tarsus length of nestlings in control plot was also longer by 2.40%, 3.08% and 3.36% compared to warfarin, brodifacoum and biorodenticide treated plots respectively. In contrast with culmen and tarsus length, wing and tail length still grew until day 49 i.e., several days before fledging. The wing and tail length in control plot was shorter by 15.77% and 13.73% compared to adult size. Teratogenic sign was shown by one nestling in brodifacoum treated plot, where its primary feathers were malformed rendering it flightless besides tail length that were very short if compared to nestlings in control plot. Wing and tail length in brodifacoum treated plot was shorter by 15.26% and 18.24%, respectively compared to control plot

Methanol is a non-drinking type of alcohol used for industrial and automotive purposes. Methanol itself is not dangerous, but its harmful metabolites may cause the accumulation of acid in the blood, leading to metabolic acidosis, permanent blindness, and death. In this case report study, the case was a 28-year-old Nepalese man who was admitted in a semi-unconscious state to the emergency department. A working diagnosis of methanol poisoning was made. After more than two weeks, he succumbed to death due to a worsening cerebral infarction. At autopsy, extensive hemorrhagic infarction was observed, involving bilateral cerebral hemispheres. Well-defined subcortical hemorrhages leading to laminar necrosis were seen at the frontoparietal lobes. Cystic or lacunar necrosis was present at the basal ganglia. The brainstem showed the presence of duret hemorrhage. The man died approximately three weeks after the methanol ingestion. This case highlights the important pathological changes and accumulating effects of methanol in the brain

Fear of writing can be caused my many reasons. Some reasons come from the learners, some from the teachers and some from the surrounding environment. A learner with negative feelings towards writing may present this fear into having writing anxiety when it comes to classrooms activities. This fear can become a never-ending cycle of fear towards writing. This pilot study is done on 108 respondents to find. Out the influence of perceived difficulties, reasons for writing and writing anxiety on ESL academic writing. The instrument used is a 56-items survey with 5 likert scales. Findings of the study displayed an interesting self-prophecy towards writing. The results of the study revealed that many learners’ perception of writing difficulty started in semester one of their study. This fear can be aggravated by a non-supporting learning environment by the writing teachers. Next, cognitive anxiety such as low self-esteem added on to the negative feeling on writing. This negative feeling can be rooted from the learners past experience (somatic anxiety) on the learning of writing. Finally, learners may end up showing avoidance bahaviour such towards learning writing. They would only write essays in English if they were not given any choice.  Article visualizations

    Get PDF
Lately, cases of insults against the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) are quite common in our country, especially on the social media. Why is this happening when Muslims are the majority population in the country? Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to highlight issues of humiliation against the Prophet (PBUH) and to explain some of the commands of Allah in the form of manners of respect for him in the Quran. This study uses content analysis method with reference to thematic interpretations or tafsir mawdhu'i as method of analysis. The Muslim scholars have stated that Rasulullah (PBUH) is the most glorious being of Allah who should be honored based on what had been commanded by Quranic texts and hadiths. Therefore, in accordance with the height of his dignity and glory, Allah has set forth in this Surah al-Hujurat several manners and ethics toward the Prophet (PBUH) for the believers to obey and practice in life. If the ethics toward Prophet Muhammad were respected and practiced by all Muslims, then the incident of contempt against him would not have happened.

In project management, risk is a surprise that might be resulted in a good, or bad, impact on a project. However, people tend to consider it a threat. This study is an evaluation work to the understanding of the risk management and safety culture of the construction sector in oil and gas industry in Iraq. A survey questionnaire was prepared, tested, distributed to a sample of engineers, from several engineering specialties, who are working on different levels in the mentioned sector. A high percent of the respondents are safety engineers, and some have a higher university degree, e.g. MS an Ph.D. The collected data then analyzed using different statistical approaches. The results show that there is a good understanding of the safety in general among engineers. However, risk management and planning tools are not understood effectively among the respondents. Moreover, having a higher degree or specializing in different majors have no impact on perceptional understanding of the safety and risk. This study is one of the first steps in studying the occupational safety in Iraq construction and oil and gas industries. Since Iraq is considered for rebuilding after different wars, international firms are in need to understand how safety is managed and to what level it is applied. From this perspective, this study is one of studies that help achieving the firms’ goal regarding safety
