BRAF testing in metastatic colorectal carcinoma and novel, chemotherapy-free therapeutic options
In the past 25 years, treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) has undergone profound changes. The approval of newer chemotherapeutics such as irinotecan and oxaliplatin was followed in 2005 by the first targeted therapies, for example, monoclonal antibodies directed against the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), as cetuximab and panitumumab, or the angiogenesis inhibitors bevacizumab, ramucirumab, and aflibercept. With the rapidly progressing molecular characterization of mCRC in the last 10 years and the classification of the disease in four consensus subtypes, further changes are emerging, which will promote, among other things, the introduction of protein-kinase inhibitors developed for specific molecular aberrations as well as immune checkpoint inhibitors into the treatment algorithm. Thorough molecular pathologic testing is indispensable today for guideline-compliant treatment of mCRC patients. In addition to RAS testing as a precondition for the therapy decision with regard to cetuximab and panitumumab, BRAF testing is of considerable relevance to allow decision making with regard to the newly approved chemotherapy-free combination of the BRAF inhibitor encorafenib and cetuximab in cases where a BRAF-V600E mutation is detected. Additional diagnostic tests should also include genome instability (microsatellite instability). Overall, more and more molecular alterations need to be investigated simultaneously, so that the use of focused next-generation sequencing is increasingly recommended. This overview describes the prognostic relevance of BRAF testing in the context of molecular pathologic diagnostics of mCRC, presents new treatment options for BRAF-mutated mCRC patients, and explains which modern DNA analytical and immunohistochemical methods are available to detect BRAF mutations in mCRC patients
Parameterization dependence of T matrix poles and eigenphases from a fit to piN elastic scattering data
We compare fits to piN elastic scattering data, based on a Chew-Mandelstam
K-matrix formalism. Resonances, characterized by T-matrix poles, are compared
in fits generated with and without explicit Chew-Mandelstam K-matrix poles.
Diagonalization of the S matrix yields the eigenphase representation. While the
eigenphases can vary significantly for the different parameterizations, the
locations of most T-matrix poles are relatively stable.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, 1 tabl
Vorbilder, denen unsere ungeteilte Aufmerksamkeit

Universality of Decoherence
We consider environment induced decoherence of quantum superpositions to
mixtures in the limit in which that process is much faster than any competing
one generated by the Hamiltonian of the isolated system. While
the golden rule then does not apply we can discard . By allowing
for simultaneous couplings to different reservoirs, we reveal decoherence as a
universal short-time phenomenon independent of the character of the system as
well as the bath and of the basis the superimposed states are taken from. We
discuss consequences for the classical behavior of the macroworld and quantum
measurement: For the decoherence of superpositions of macroscopically distinct
states the system Hamiltonian is always negligible.Comment: 4 revtex pages, no figure
Quantum decision making by social agents
The influence of additional information on the decision making of agents, who
are interacting members of a society, is analyzed within the mathematical
framework based on the use of quantum probabilities. The introduction of social
interactions, which influence the decisions of individual agents, leads to a
generalization of the quantum decision theory developed earlier by the authors
for separate individuals. The generalized approach is free of the standard
paradoxes of classical decision theory. This approach also explains the
error-attenuation effects observed for the paradoxes occurring when decision
makers, who are members of a society, consult with each other, increasing in
this way the available mutual information. A precise correspondence between
quantum decision theory and classical utility theory is formulated via the
introduction of an intermediate probabilistic version of utility theory of a
novel form, which obeys the requirement that zero-utility prospects should have
zero probability weights.Comment: This paper has been withdrawn by the authors because a much extended
and improved version has been submitted as arXiv:1510.02686 under the new

Experimental motivation and empirical consistency in minimal no-collapse quantum mechanics
We analyze three important experimental domains (SQUIDs, molecular
interferometry, and Bose-Einstein condensation) as well as quantum-biophysical
studies of the neuronal apparatus to argue that (i) the universal validity of
unitary dynamics and the superposition principle has been confirmed far into
the mesoscopic and macroscopic realm in all experiments conducted thus far;
(ii) all observed "restrictions" can be correctly and completely accounted for
by taking into account environmental decoherence effects; (iii) no positive
experimental evidence exists for physical state-vector collapse; (iv) the
perception of single "outcomes" is likely to be explainable through decoherence
effects in the neuronal apparatus. We also discuss recent progress in the
understanding of the emergence of quantum probabilities and the objectification
of observables. We conclude that it is not only viable, but moreover compelling
to regard a minimal no-collapse quantum theory as a leading candidate for a
physically motivated and empirically consistent interpretation of quantum
mechanics.Comment: 24 pages, 11 figures, final published versio
