EFFECTS OF WIND FARMS ON SAND HILL CRANE PLAY A OCCUPANCY ON THE TEXAS HIGH PLAINS

Wind energy is essential for a shift to carbon-emission free energy, however there has been very little research investigating the disturbance caused by wind farms on the landscape. Texas is a leading state in wind power capacity, and the High Plains of Texas support over 80% of the midcontinent population of sandhill cranes (Grus canadensis) every winter. Historically, cranes used saline lakes for fresh water and predator protection, but recent hydrological changes due to agricultural practices have reduced the availability of the lakes for wintering birds. Playa wetlands currently represent the main source of water and roosting habitat in the High Plains. We examined crane occupancy of playa wetlands in 4 counties of Texas during the fall and winters of 2009-10 and 2010-11. In addition to recording presence/no presence, we recorded multiple variables and used information theory and AICc to develop models which best explained crane occupancy. Using occupancy modeling methods to survey playas in Texas resulted in no combination of variables explaining crane presence or absence in playas, most likely because cranes likely move between playas freely on their winter habitat. As playas are a vital part of their winter ecology, sandhill crane use and movement between them should be further examined to better describe crane use of their winter landscape and better plan and manage for large scale habitat alterations, such as the large increase in the number of wind turbines across the High Plains

SANDHILL CRANE COLLISIONS WITH WIND TURBINES IN TEXAS

The High Plains of the United States have been experiencing a large increase in wind energy generation sites with the American Wind Energy Association reporting an increase across America from 10 total installed gigawatts in 2006 to 60 total installed gigawatts in 2012. (American Wind Energy Association 2012). The High Plains also coincides with the Central Flyway in North America which is used by numerous bird species during migration, some with large bodies and high wing loading including the sandhill cranes (Grus canandensis), whooping cranes (G. americana), and waterfowl. Species such as these tend to be more vulnerable to mortality from strikes with structures due to reduced maneuverability (Bevenger 1998). Texas is currently 1 of the top 5 producers of wind power generation, and installation of wind power is expected to increase due to its high wind capabilities (American Wind Energy Association 2012). Eighty percent of the midcontinent sandhill crane population migrates to northwestern Texas every winter (Iverson et al. 1985), and the entire wild North American whooping crane population migrates through northern Texas to winter along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico (Stehn 2010). More wind turbines on the landscape may put these populations of cranes at risk for increased turbine collisions

The insertion of women in the labor market is a clear example of historical achievement because, thanks to the struggle of many women, today, it is a reality that the female population has achieved its insertion in the labor market. However, there is still a long way to go, because, at present, there is still occupational segregation which drives to the wage gap and, even, wage discrimination. The objective pursued with this essay is to facilitate the reader a broad view of how the situation of the women in the labor market has been trans­forming until achieving the current situation.La inserción de la mujer en el mercado laboral es un claro ejemplo de logro histórico ya que, gracias a la lucha de muchas mujeres, a día de hoy, es una realidad que la población femenina ha logrado su inserción en el mercado laboral. Sin embargo, aun queda mucho camino por recorrer, prueba de ello es que, en la actualidad aún existe un cierto rechazo a considerar que la mujer está cualificada para ser trabajadora, dando lugar a la segregación ocupacional y vertical que provoca como resultado la brecha salarial, circunstancia que refleja como sufre una discriminación salarial frente a los trabajadores de sexo masculino, simple­mente por su género. El objetivo perseguido con este ensayo consiste en facilitar al lector una visión genérica de cómo la situación de la mujer en el mercado laboral se ha ido transforman­do hasta llegar a la visión actual, finalizando con una reflexión que pretende constatar en los lectores la importancia de favorecer una igualdad plena y real en la sociedad

El objetivo principal del presente trabajo de investigación se centra en determinar la relación del compromiso organizacional y el clima laboral en la entidad prestadora de servicios de saneamiento Tacna – EPS, año 2021, la investigación es muy importante para que las empresas del sector público del Perú puedan diseñar estrategias con la finalidad de generar un mayor compromiso de los colaboradores con el propósito de dar cumplimiento a cabalidad de los resultados que busca alcanzar a través de la estrategias que diseñen. La investigación presenta una introducción dedicada a la contextuar el tema de investigación a desarrollar, a través de la presentación un marco teórico, en el cual se expone teorías y conceptos, cuyo delineamiento han orientado la investigación. El presente estudio, se ha realizado con el levantamiento de información primaria a través de la aplicación de un cuestionario, de otro lado, para la comprobación de las hipótesis se ha utilizado la correlación de Rho Spearman, dado los objetivos planteados en la investigación

Comparative Study of Epoxy-CsH2PO4 Composite Electrolytes and Porous Metal Based Electrocatalysts for Solid Acid Electrochemical Cells

[EN] Electrochemical cells based on acid salts (CsH2PO4) have attracted great interest for intermediate temperature, due to the outstanding proton conductivity of acid salts. In this work, electrodes and electrolyte were optimized following different strategies. An epoxy resin was added to the CsH2PO4 material to enhance the mechanical properties of the electrolyte, achieving good conductivity, enhanced stability, and cyclability. The electrodes configuration was modified, and Ni sponge was selected as active support. The infiltration of different oxide nanoparticles was carried out to tailor the electrodes resistance by promoting the electrocatalyst activity of electrodes. The selection of a cell supported on the electrode and the addition of an epoxy resin enables the reduction of the electrolyte thickness without damaging the mechanical stability of the thinner electrolyte.Funding from Spanish Government (MINECO ENE2014-57651 grant) is kindly acknowledged. Study of Pr and Pr and Co doped La2NiO4+δ as cathodes for La5.5WO11.25-δ based protonic conducting fuel cells

[EN] The mixed ionic-electronic conductor La2NiO4+delta was investigated as potential cathode material for protonic conducting solid oxide fuel cells (PC-SOFCs) based on La5.5WO11.25-delta electrolyte. Firstly the chemical compatibility between cathode and electrolyte phases (La2NiO4+delta and La5.5WO11.25-delta respectively) was studied. Then, the electrochemical properties of this cathode were improved by partially substituting La and/or Ni, specifically La1.5Pr0.5NiO4+delta and La(1.5)Pro(0.5)Nio(0.8)Co(0.2)O(4+delta) were considered. These two doped materials showed improved electrical conductivity and reduced polarization resistance, when tested as cathode in symmetrical cells. In a second step, the microstructure of La(1.5)Pro(0.5)Nio(0.8)Co(0.2)O(4+delta) was optimized by varying the firing temperature of the cathode. The performance of these mixed conductors is limited by medium frequencies associated processes while they show lower polarization resistances (Rp) than conventional composites based on La5.5WO11.25-delta and pure electronic conductors. La(1.5)Pro(0.5)Nio(0.8)Co(0.2)O(4+delta) cathode sintered at 1050 degrees C exhibits the best electrochemical performance on a La5.5WO11.25-delta-based PC-SOFC, achieving Rp = 0.62 Omega cm(2) at 750 degrees C in wet air.Funding from European Union (FP7 Project EFFIPRO - Grant agreement 227560), the Spanish Government (ENE2011-24761, SEV-2012-0267, BES-2012-053180 and CSIC Intramural 200880I093 grants) is kindly acknowledged. Desarrollo de un Seniors Club y Centro Comunitario destinado al bienestar, inclusión, ayuda y apoyo de los adultos mayores, basándose en cifras que demuestran y ponen en evidencia la vulnerabilidad de dicha población, el diseño propondrá espacios dedicados a la comodidad del usuario, y actividades culturales y de bienestar. Se integrará y articulará a un Centro Comunitario dedicado de igual forma a personas de la Tercera Edad, junto con zonas comunes entre el Senior´s Club y este. El proyecto arquitectónico se ubicará de forma estratégica en la Localidad de Usaquén, en la Ciudad de Bogotá, ya que las estadísticas del Atlas de Salud Pública del Hospital de Usaquén publicado en el año 2014 dicen que la población mayor a 60 años equivale al 14% (71.442) de la totalidad de la población de la localidad de Usaquén, y entre las UPZs Country Club y Usaquén se concentra entre el 2.94 y 8.54 por ciento de la población mayor a 60 años. Dado estas cifras mencionadas, en el sector de Usaquén se encuentran pocos sitios para la ayuda e integración de las personas adultas mayores por lo cual se plantea, ¿De qué manera se pueden generar espacios adecuados que Incluyan y presten ayuda a esta comunidad? Por esta razón el proyecto estará ubicado frente a la Av. Cra Séptima y de esta forma tendrá una mejor movilidad y punto de llegada, como también estará cercano a zonas verdes del sector creando así un enfoque sostenible y teniendo una conexión de áreas verdes, puentes ecológicos y siendo un articulador urbano entre arquitectura y paisaje.Development of a Seniors Club and Community Center aimed at the well-being, inclusion, help and support of older adults, based on figures that demonstrate and highlight the vulnerability of this population, the design will propose spaces dedicated to the comfort of the user, and cultural and wellness activities. The architectural project will be strategically located in the Town of Usaquén, in the City of Bogotá, since the statistics of the Public Health Atlas of the Hospital de Usaquén published in 2014 say that the population over 60 years of age is equivalent to 14% (71,442) of the entire population of the town of Usaquén, and between the UPZs Country Club and Usaquén is concentrated between 2.94 and 8.54 percent of the population over 60 years. Given these figures mentioned, in the sector of Usaquén there are few sites for the help and integration of older adults so it is proposed, in what way can adequate spaces be generated that include and provide help to this community? For this reason, the project will be located in front of Av. Cra Séptima and in this way it will have a better mobility and point of arrival, as well as being close to green areas of the sector thus creating a sustainable approach and having a connection of green areas, ecological bridges and being an urban articulator between architecture and landscape

Factores culturales que determinan la innovación en Mipymes: determinando la incidencia de la cultura en la competitividad

Elevar la competitividad de las Micro, Pequeñas y Medianas Empresas (MIPYMES) es una tarea ardua que implica una mirada de desarrollo empresarial. La importancia que poseen dentro del ámbito socioeconómico y, al mismo tiempo, la vulnerabilidad operativa que observan en su mayoría, son implicaciones complejas que no son fáciles de superar si no se aborda, como parte del proceso de consultoría, la modificación de su cultura organizacional. En este sentido, se plantean los factores que deberían observarse en una cultura para la competitividad y, con base en los mismos, se deriva un instrumento de diagnóstico para evaluarlos y utilizar los resultados dentro de la primer etapa en un proceso de consultoría. Esta propuesta se basa en el trabajo desarrollado desde hace varios años en el Centro Universidad Empresa del ITESO, donde se ha conformado una herramienta amplia de diagnóstico que a diferencia de lo comúnmente realizado, aborda no solo la identificación de la situación actual, sino también las características de un estado de madurez que guarda la empresa y que debe tomarse como referente para impulsarla a un nivel superior. La aplicación del diagnóstico de cultura en un número reducido de casos permitió de manera central validar la formulación del cuestionario. Este mostró que las empresas con un diagnóstico favorable sobre los elementos indagados en su cultura también coincidieron con ser las que operaban con mejores resultados. Por otra parte, la posibilidad de dicho diagnóstico para ofrecer contribuciones valiosas a los consultores involucrados también hizo aportaciones para los propios empresarios que manifestaron obtener una visión distinta de su empresa al ubicar y comprender elementos más allá de caracterizaciones de tipo funcional (financieras, de mercado, de producción, etc.), que les permiten identificar prácticas que contribuyen a mejorar el desempeño de sus organizaciones
