Enhanced Room Temperature Coefficient of Resistance and Magneto-resistance of Ag-added La0.7Ca0.3-xBaxMnO3 Composites
In this paper we report an enhanced temperature coefficient of resistance
(TCR) close to room temperature in La0.7Ca0.3-xBaxMnO3 + Agy (x = 0.10, 0.15
and y = 0.0 to 0.40) (LCBMO+Ag) composite manganites. The observed enhancement
of TCR is attributed to the grain growth and opening of new conducting channels
in the composites. Ag addition has also been found to enhance intra-granular
magneto-resistance. Inter-granular MR, however, is seen to decrease with Ag
addition. The enhanced TCR and MR at / near room temperature open up the
possibility of the use of such materials as infrared bolometric and magnetic

A comparative study of structural and electrical properties in lead-free BCZT ceramics: Influence of the synthesis method
In the present work, various grain size phenomena were studied in promising lead-free piezoelectric ceramics (Ba0.85Ca0.15) (Zr0.10Ti0.90)O3 fabricated via chemical and conventional oxide methods. Phase composition was ascertained by the Rietveld refinement. Average grain size estimated from the microstructure was ∼1.5 μm in the sol-gel derived ceramic (SG-BCZT) which was much smaller than that obtained in coarse grained (∼27 μm) sample prepared by solid state method (SS-BCZT). Systematic investigation of various functional properties viz. dielectric, ferroelectric, piezoelectric and impedance emphasized the profound influence of grain size effects. The increase in grain boundary volume fraction enhanced diffuseness while lowered the dielectric peak in SG-BCZT. Similarly, increase in elastic stiffness and progressive hindrance to domain wall movements, resulted in a decrease of the remnant polarization and the associated piezoelectric charge coefficient values in small-grained SG-BCZT sample. Accordingly, higher Young's modulus value of 158.3 GPa was observed in SG-BCZT as compared to 117.9 GPa in SS-BCZT. Local-area piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) images revealed lamellar domains with periodicity 250 ± 90 nm in SS-BCZT while small sized fractal-like irregular domains with an estimated domain width of 150 ± 60 nm were registered in SG-BCZT. Complex impedance spectroscopy results along with grain boundary conductivity were also guided by grain size effect. Structural, magnetic, magnetocaloric and specific heat investigations on Mn doped PrCrO3 orthochromites
We have synthesized PrCr0.85Mn0.15O3 (PCMO) chromite and investigated the influence of manganese (Mn) doping at Cr-sites on the structural, magnetic, magnetocaloric and thermal properties of PrCrO3 compound. No structural transition was observed with Mn substitution and the doped compound crystallized into distorted orthorhombic structure with Pnma space group which was confirmed by Rietveld refinement of x-ray powder diffraction patterns. Neel temperature, noticed at 168 K from the temperature variation of magnetization, smaller than that reported for PrCrO3, indicated the influence of Mn3+ substitution in decreasing the antiferromagnetic ordering. Magnetization was almost eight times higher than that reported for undoped sample. Magnetocaloric effect measured via the magnetic entropy change and relative cooling power demonstrated significant values in the temperature range 10-20 K. The values of magnetic entropy change are much superior to that reported for other polycrystalline orthochromites and even at smaller applied field strength. The material exhibited second order magnetic phase transition. The Debye temperature and the density of states at Fermi level were also calculated. The overall results make PrCr0.85Mn0.15O3 chromite a potential candidate to replace the existing materials for low temperature magnetic refrigeration. © 2017 IOP Publishing Ltd
Political branding: sense of identity or identity crisis? An investigation of the transfer potential of the brand identity prism to the UK Conservative Party
Brands are strategic assets and key to achieving a competitive advantage. Brands can be seen as a heuristic device, encapsulating a series of values that enable the consumer to make quick and efficient choices. More recently, the notion of a political brand and the rhetoric of branding have been widely adopted by many political parties as they seek to differentiate themselves, and this has led to an emerging interest in the idea of the political brand. Therefore, this paper examines the UK Conservative Party brand under David Cameron’s leadership and examines the applicability of Kapferer’s brand identity prism to political branding. This paper extends and operationalises the brand identity prism into a ‘political brand identity network’ which identifies the inter-relatedness of the components of the corporate political brand and the candidate political brand. Crucial for practitioners, this model can demonstrate how the brand is presented and communicated to the electorate and serves as a useful mechanism to identify consistency within the corporate and candidate political brands
Dissecting the long-term emission behaviour of the BL Lac object Mrk 421
We report on long-term multiwavelengthmonitoring of blazar Mrk 421 by the GLAST-AGILE
Support Program of the Whole Earth Blazar Telescope (GASP-WEBT) collaboration and
Steward Observatory, and by the Swift and Fermi satellites. We study the source behaviour in
the period 2007–2015, characterized by several extreme flares. The ratio between the optical,
X-ray and γ -ray fluxes is very variable. The γ -ray flux variations show a fair correlation with
the optical ones starting from 2012.We analyse spectropolarimetric data and find wavelengthdependence
of the polarization degree (P), which is compatible with the presence of the
host galaxy, and no wavelength dependence of the electric vector polarization angle (EVPA).
Optical polarimetry shows a lack of simple correlation between P and flux and wide rotations of
the EVPA.We build broad-band spectral energy distributions with simultaneous near-infrared
and optical data from the GASP-WEBT and ultraviolet and X-ray data from the Swift satellite.
They show strong variability in both flux and X-ray spectral shape and suggest a shift of
the synchrotron peak up to a factor of ∼50 in frequency. The interpretation of the flux and
spectral variability is compatible with jet models including at least two emitting regions that

Genomics accelerated isolation of a new stem rust avirulence gene - wheat resistance gene pair
Stem rust caused by the fungus Puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici (Pgt) is a devastating disease of the global staple crop wheat. Although this disease was largely controlled by genetic resistance in the latter half of the 20th century, new strains of Pgt with increased virulence, such as Ug99, have evolved by somatic hybridisation and mutation. These newly emerged strains have caused significant losses in Africa and other regions and their continued spread threatens global wheat production. Breeding for disease resistance provides the most cost-effective control of wheat rust diseases. A number of race-specific rust resistance genes have been characterised in wheat and most encode immune receptors of the nucleotide-binding leucine-rich repeat (NLR) class. These receptors recognize pathogen effector proteins often known as avirulence (Avr) proteins. However, only two Avr genes have been identified in Pgt to date, AvrSr35 and AvrSr50 and none in other cereal rusts, which hinders efforts to understand the evolution of virulence in rust populations. The Sr27 resistance gene was first identified in a wheat line carrying an introgression of the 3R chromosome from Imperial rye. Although not deployed widely in wheat, Sr27 is widespread in the artificial crop species Triticosecale (triticale) which is a wheat-rye hybrid and is a host for Pgt. Sr27 is effective against Ug99 and other recently emerged Pgt strains. Here we identify both the Sr27 gene in wheat and the corresponding AvrSr27 gene in Pgt and show that virulence to Sr27 can arise experimentally and in the field through deletion mutations, copy number variation and expression level polymorphisms at the AvrSr27 locus
Preliminary Definitions for Sacroiliac Joint Pathologies in the OMERACT Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis MRI Score (OMERACT JAMRIS-SIJ).
Objective: To develop definitions for the assessment of MRI pathologies of the sacroiliac joints (SIJ) in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA).
Methods: An OMERACT consensus-driven methodology consisting of iterative surveys and focus group meetings within an international group of rheumatologists and radiologists.
Results: Two domains, inflammation and structural, were identified. Definitions for bone marrow edema, joint space inflammation, capsulitis and enthesitis were derived for joint inflammation; sclerosis, erosion, fatty lesion and ankylosis were defined for assessing structural joint changes.
Conclusion: Preliminary consensus-driven definitions for inflammation and structural elements have been derived, underpinning the ongoing development of the JAMRIS-SIJ score
A change in the transportation needs today, a better future for tomorrow – climate change review
No sooner than later, the world will be living hell as a result of the transportation effects on our climate now escalating. The pressure is now growing towards their resultant effects to be totally eradicated in order to save our planet otherwise, the stabilisation of these effects; global warming, greenhouse gas (GHG) emission and degradation will need to be sought after. The world all over is at it now in an effort to restore our climate, to save it from the effects of these catastrophes/disasters.
On the proposition of the Kyoto Protocol in1997, the main focus was to decrease greenhouse emissions of mainly six gases – Carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, sulphur hexafluoride, Hydro fluorocarbons (HFCs) and Per fluorinated Compounds (PFCs). And transport alone, accounts for over 26% of global CO2 and has been regarded as one of the few industrial sectors wherein emissions are still on the increase, on this basis, researchers and policy makers are all at it to tackle the menace of climate changes through provision of sustainable transport.
This paper focuses on the new and developed technologies like the renewable energy source [RES], which will be an alternative to transport fuels to avoid the dependence on petroleum which after effects are damaging to the world climate, and may probably not be there forever to continue serving the world ever increasing population. While the long term solutions are being sought, these alternatives will make do for now
