Abstract The outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic caused a sharp change in the educational practice world over as schools and institutions of learning are forced to seek alternatives to teaching styles.  Learning centers were shut down to follow the order of social distancing, as a precautionary measure against the infectious virus disease that has rampaged the world. This paper studies the professional consequences of the challenges fronting the English language teaching in Nigeria in the period of coronavirus pandemic otherwise known as “Covid-19”. It also offers how the needs and goals of the learners can be met in the period of the mandatory homestay.  The article collects, collates, and reviews the data that comes up in the Learn at Home Program (LHP) webpage which is created for the purpose of continuing education in the time of “Covid-19”. A survey of the participants' responses was also conducted to investigate the efficacy and challenges that they encountered during the online delivery through the use of a variety of media stations on different topics of secondary schools in Nigeria. The paper, after pitching the challenges of this virtual instruction at the time of the pandemic, proffers certain solutions that can boost the efficacy of virtual education generally in Nigeria.         Keywords: challenges, teaching, coronavirus, pandemic, e-learning. &nbsp

Temperature Dependence of the Tilt Angle for the Smectic A-Smectic C* Transition in a Mixture of C7-70PDOB Ferroelectric Liquid Crystals near the Tricritical Point

    Get PDF
The temperature dependence of the tilt angle theta is studied in the smectic C* phase near the smectic A-smectic C* tricritical point for a mixture of 70PD0B in the ferroelectric liquid crystal C7 (X = 16.92). The mean-field models with the biquadratic P-2 theta(2) (P is the spontaneous polarization) and P-2 theta(2) + P theta (bilinear) coupling terms in the free energy expansion are used to analyze the experimental data for the tilt angle in this binary mixture. From our analysis, the coefficients given in the free energy expansion of the mean-field models are determined. Our results show that the mean-field theory explains adequately the observed behaviour of the C7-70PD0B mixture near the AC* tricritical point

Cutting Rate and Surface Characteristic Analysis in CNC Wire Electrical Discharge Machining of Aluminium Bronze

    Get PDF
In this study, cutting rate and surface characteristic analysis in wire electrical discharge machining of aluminium bronze were investigated. Cutting rate analyses were performed according to Taguchi L18 (2^1×3^2) orthogonal array. Machining parameters such as wire type, duration between two pulses (BT) and pulse time (AT) were used as control factors. Raw data obtained for cutting rate were converted to S/N ratio values. Optimum levels of the machining parameters for cutting rate were determined using analysis of signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio. Significant machining parameters and their percentage contributions on results were obtained using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Regression analysis was performed to model the relationship between cutting rate and machining parameters. Analyses of surfaces machined of workpiece using both two wires for minimum and maximum cutting rate were observed using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and surface roughness device

In this study, in order to overcome the difficulties that may be experienced while performing the works of Johannes Brahms, who is an important composer of the Romantic Period, to better understand his works and to shed light on young artists, a research has been made about the composer's life and musical life. The Sonata in F minor Op. 120 No. 1, which he wrote but later adapted for viola and piano, has been examined in terms of historical and form features. As a result, it has been seen that the work has an important place in both the clarinet and viola repertoire. The first part of the piece is in the form of a sonata allegro, the second and third parts are in the form of a three-part song, and the fourth part is in the form of rondo. Historically, this sonata is very important as it is the last chamber music work of the composer. Detailed information about the form features is a source especially for viola artists who will interpret the work

The Pronunciation Problems among Kurdish Learners of English

    Get PDF
The goal of this study was to examine the pronunciation issues of different speakers of English and especially Kurdish speakers, and various perspectives on native vs foreign pronunciations. The research showed that Kurdish speakers had difficulties pronouncing several English vowels and some English consonants. The research results demonstrate that Kurdish English speakers understand the value of pronunciation compared to native and non-native English speakers. Kurdish speakers may hesitate to speak in a manner that seems natural to a native speaker, and their last consonants in words are almost always unaspirated and unvoiced. Given that Kurdish learners of English have difficulty pronouncing some English words, some suggested solutions include providing pronunciation instruction classes to language instructors, having educators speak in English, and giving students examples of native tongue sounds compared and contrasted with the target language sounds. With minimal exposure to cooperation with native speakers and variations in L1's phonological organization compared to English, the difficulty posed by pronunciation is evident. All the updated studies clearly show that these issues affect English speakers in general and rely less and less on their original tongue
