Improving Detectors Using Entangling Quantum Copiers
We present a detection scheme which using imperfect detectors, and imperfect
quantum copying machines (which entangle the copies), allows one to extract
more information from an incoming signal, than with the imperfect detectors

Development and Initial Validation of the O&M VISSIT for Orientation and Mobility Specialists to Determine Service Intensity
The purpose of this study was to provide initial validation of the Orientation & Mobility Visual Impairment Scale of Service Intensity of Texas (O&M VISSIT) intended for use by orientation and mobility (O&M) specialists to determine a recommended type and amount of O&M services for students on their caseloads based on each studentâs identified needs. The validity and reliability of the scale were calculated using a mixed-methods survey research design, with purposive expert sampling. The O&M VISSIT was found to be significantly valid in social and content validity and moderately valid in consequential validity. The O&M VISSIT is a moderately reliable tool to assist determine the appropriate type and amount of O&M services for all students on the O&M specialistâs caseload

Large Alphabets and Incompressibility
We briefly survey some concepts related to empirical entropy -- normal
numbers, de Bruijn sequences and Markov processes -- and investigate how well
it approximates Kolmogorov complexity. Our results suggest th-order
empirical entropy stops being a reasonable complexity metric for almost all
strings of length over alphabets of size about when surpasses
Information transfer and fidelity in quantum copiers
We find that very different quantum copying machines are optimal depending on
the indicator used to assess their performance. Several quantum copying machine
models acting on non-orthogonal input states are investigated, and assessed
according to two types of criteria: Transfer of (Shannon) information encoded
in the initial states to the copies, and fidelity between the copies and the
initial states. Transformations which optimise information transfer for
messages encoded in qubits are found. If the message is decoded one symbol

Recursive quantum repeater networks
Internet-scale quantum repeater networks will be heterogeneous in physical
technology, repeater functionality, and management. The classical control
necessary to use the network will therefore face similar issues as Internet
data transmission. Many scalability and management problems that arose during
the development of the Internet might have been solved in a more uniform
fashion, improving flexibility and reducing redundant engineering effort.
Quantum repeater network development is currently at the stage where we risk
similar duplication when separate systems are combined. We propose a unifying
framework that can be used with all existing repeater designs. We introduce the
notion of a Quantum Recursive Network Architecture, developed from the emerging
classical concept of 'recursive networks', extending recursive mechanisms from
a focus on data forwarding to a more general distributed computing request
framework. Recursion abstracts independent transit networks as single relay
nodes, unifies software layering, and virtualizes the addresses of resources to
improve information hiding and resource management. Our architecture is useful
for building arbitrary distributed states, including fundamental distributed
states such as Bell pairs and GHZ, W, and cluster states.Comment: 14 page

Recommendations for change in infection prevention programs and practice
Fifty years of evolution in infection prevention and control programs have involved significant accomplishments related to clinical practices, methodologies, and technology. However, regulatory mandates, and resource and research limitations, coupled with emerging infection threats such as the COVID-19 pandemic, present considerable challenges for infection preventionists. This article provides guidance and recommendations in 14 key areas. These interventions should be considered for implementation by United States health care facilities in the near future
Family support in practice : voices from the field
This paper revisits core family support messages for social work practice in working with children and families, linking to findings from high-profile child protection cases in the UK and the Republic of Ireland. Drawing on a comparative study where these identified practice messages were explored through the lens of testimony of family support workers in the UK and Ireland, these core messages are examined. Operating with hard-to-engage children and parents, we hear how families and family support worker colleagues now view the core functions of child and family work across both jurisdictions (Ireland and England). The authors argue that by naming a more detailed set of practices that are deemed as most useful by families, based on the benefits and challenges of intensive family support work, key messages arise that have major resonance for social work and multiagency practice into the future. A basic message from this study is that valuable lessons on engagement and intervention with families can be drawn for professionals by examining the practice elements of this group of paraprofessionals in the child and family arena. This paper adds to debates on the role of support and intervention in social work and family support work
