Analysis of leakage properties and guiding conditions of rib antiresonant reflecting optical waveguides
Power leakage properties and guiding conditions of rib antiresonant reflecting optical waveguides (rib-ARROW) have been theoretically and experimentally studied as a function of wavelength and polarization of the light for different geometrical and optical parameters that characterize the rib-ARROW structure. Obtained results show that rib-ARROWs can only be fabricated with low losses in a wavelength range when determined rib configurations are adopted. Furthermore, these waveguides exhibit a polarization sensitivity that largely depends on the core-substrate refractive index difference. Together with the experimental results, theoretical calculations from different modeling methods are also presented and discussed
Comparative analysis of the serve in volleyball between the spanish championships 2005-2010
jugadores, evitando el mimetismo de lo que acontece en alto nivelThe aim of this research was to analyze the changes in the characteristics of
the serve between the male Under-16 Spanish Championships that took place
in 2005 and 2010. Through systematic observation 1594 actions were analyzed.
The measured variables were: serve zone, effectiveness, serve type, reception
zone, in-game role of the receptor, serve direction and timing. The results
showed that in recent years, the serve performed by players at training stages
has undergone significant changes, such as improved efficiency, increased use
of jump serve, and execution of the serve with a more tactical role. Despite of
the closest approach of the serve to the existing high level profiles, it is
recommended to train the serve in volleyball training stages according to the
characteristics and level of players, avoiding mimicry of what happens at a high

Double-zero degeneracy and heteroclinic cycles in a perturbation of the Lorenz system
In this paper we consider a 3D three-parameter unfolding close to the normal form of the triple-zero bifurcation exhibited by the Lorenz system. First we study analytically the double-zero degeneracy (a double-zero eigenvalue with geometric multiplicity two) and two Hopf bifurcations. We focus on the more complex case in which the double-zero degeneracy organizes several codimension-one singularities, namely transcritical, pitchfork, Hopf and heteroclinic bifurcations. The analysis of the normal form of a Hopf-transcritical bifurcation allows to obtain the expressions for the corresponding bifurcation curves. A degenerate double-zero bifurcation is also considered. The theoretical information obtained is very helpful to start a numerical study of the 3D system. Thus, the presence of degenerate heteroclinic and homoclinic orbits, T-point heteroclinic loops and chaotic attractors is detected. We find numerical evidence that, at least, four curves of codimension-two global bifurcations are related to the triple-zero degeneracy in the system analyzed.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad MTM2017-87915-C2-1-PMinisterio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades - Fondos FEDER PGC2018-096265-B-I0Consejería de Economía, Innovación, Ciencia y Empleo - Junta de Andalucía FQM-276, TIC-0130, UHU-1260150 y P20_0116
On the use of NASGRO software to estimate fatigue crack growth under variable amplitude loading in aluminium alloy 2024-T351
This work uses the strip yield model implemented in NASGRO software to estimate fatigue life under random loading. Simulated results were compared with experimental data previously obtained by the authors using different random loading processes in Al2024-T351. Test data under constant amplitude loading from different authors have been considered in order to characterize the material behaviour and fit the model parameters. The two different strip yield model implemented in NASGRO software were considered. The ratio of simulated to experimental fatigue lives was between 0.71 and 1.52 considering all options and between 0.87 and 1.12 with the best option.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad DPI2012-33382Junta de Andalucía TEP-324
Brucellosis with multisystemic manifestations: Case report and literature review
Brucellosis is an infection that affects mammals’ cells caused by a species from the genus Brucella, a gram-negative, immobile, facultative, intracellular, and microaerophilic coccobacillus. In humans, the pathogen species are Brucella melitensis, B. abortus, B. suis and B. canis. We are presenting the case of a 62-year-old man with confirmed brucellosis and his consequent cardiovascular, cutaneous, gastrointestinal, hepatic, osteomuscular, renal and hematological complications. It is necessary to be highly suspicious of this infection, since its non-specific nature can be challenging for the physician
Geometrically induced modification of surface plasmons in the optical and telecom regimes
We demonstrate that the introduction of a subwavelength periodic modulation
into a metallic structure strongly modifies the guiding characteristics of the
surface plasmon modes supported by the system. Moreover, it is also shown how a
new type of a tightly confined surface plasmon polariton mode can be created by
just milling a periodic corrugation into a metallic ridge placed on top of a
metal surface
