    Missing levels in intermediate spectra

We derive an expression for the nearest-neighbor spacing distribution P(s)P(s) of the energy levels of quantum systems with intermediate dynamics between regularity and chaos and missing levels due to random experimental errors. The expression is based on the Brody distribution, the most widely used for fitting mixed spectra as a function of one parameter. By using Monte Carlo simulations of intermediate spectra based on the β\beta-Hermite ensemble of Random Matrix Theory, we evaluate the quality of the formula and its suitability for fitting purposes. Estimations of the Brody parameter and the fraction of missing levels can be obtained by a least-square two-parameter fitting of the experimental P(s)P(s). The results should be important to distinguish the origins of deviations from RMT in experimental spectra

    Lentes intraoculares trifocales: revisión bibliográfica

    Get PDF

Mitigating energy poverty: Potential contributions of combining PV and building thermal mass storage in low-income households

The issue of energy poverty has devastating implications for the society, and it has been aggravated in the past years due to the economic crisis and the increase of energy prices. Among the most affected are those with low incomes and living in inefficient buildings. Unfortunately, the bitter reality is that sometimes this part of the population are facing the next question: Heating, or eating? The declining prices of distributed energy technologies such as photovoltaics provides an opportunity for positive social change. Although their use does not address energy poverty directly, substantial contributions may be made. Measurements of indoor temperatures in a social housing district of southern Spain in 2017 have revealed the unbearable temperatures that the occupants have to endure, both in summer and winter. Using this district as a case study, the present work aims to evaluate the benefits of exploiting its rooftop PV potential to cover part of the electricity consumption of the district (reducing the energy bills), and use the surplus electricity to supply power for the heat pumps in the district. Optimal alternatives regarding maximum PV production, maximum self-sufficiency ratio and minimum investment costs have been found, considering as well different options when sharing the available electricity surplus to improve the thermal comfort of the occupants. As far as the authors know, no previous study has followed an approach aimed at energy poverty alleviation such as the one presented in this work. The results show that using the surplus electricity to heat or cool the whole dwellings would improve the thermal comfort of the occupants in average up to 11% in winter and 26% in summer. If all the PV generation was used or more buildings in the area were employed to install PV modules, improvements up to 33% in winter and 67% in summer could be obtained, reducing at the same time the thermal comfort differences among the dwellings of the district

The nests of Cadeguala albopilosa (Spinola, 1851), Diphaglossa gayi Spinola, 1851, Ptiloglossa tarsata (Friese, 1900), Ptiloglossa matutina (Schrottky, 1904) and Zikanapis tucumana (Moure, 1945) (Colletidae, Diphaglossinae) from Argentina and Chile are described herein. They show similar features to those of other Diphaglossinae: they consist of a main tunnel, cells disposed radially, isolated or in pairs, and connected to the main tunnel by laterals ones. Main tunnels are mostly vertical in species nesting in soil surface but horizontal to inclined in D. gayi, which nests in banks. Cells are vertical with curved necks. The cells of C. albopilosa show less curved necks (less than 90°), whereas in the remaining four species the cell neck is highly curved (90° or more). Cells of P. tarsata have a spiral earthen closure and a wad cottonlike material, whereas in P. matutina only had the last one. In the remaining studied species any type of closure were found. Cocoons of C. albopilosa and P. tarsata are coriaceous showing a closure composed of three disks. Zikanapis tucumana and possibly P. matutina showed dim-light foraging. The remaining species are diurnal. The climate in their nesting sites is highly diverse, ranging from 8°C to 20°C in mean annual temperature, and from 250 mm to 3000 mm in mean annual precipitation. Only C. albopilosa and, to a lesser extent, Z. tucumana nested gregariously. Zikanapis tucumana and P. tarsata were observed visiting flowers of Solanum.Fil: Sarzetti, Laura Cristina. The role of small woodland remnants on ground dwelling insect conservation in Chaco Serrano, central Argentina

    Get PDF
Most terrestrial ecosystems are changing due to extensive land use, with habitat fragmentation being a major threat to biodiversity. We studied the effects of patch size, isolation and edge/interior localization on the ground dwelling insect communities associated to Chaco Serrano woodland remnants, in central Argentina. Sampling was carried out in December 2003 and March 2004 in nine remnants (0.57-1000ha) using pitfall traps. In total, 7071 individuals representing 12 orders and 79 families were recorded. The taxonomic composition of these communities was linked to remnant size. Insect abundance increased (as did their richness, albeit marginally) as remnant area decreased, with no significant effects of isolation or edge/interior localization on abundance, richness or diversity. No differential area effects were observed when abundance and richness of predators, scavengers and herbivores were compared. Thus, ground insect communities in fragmented Chaco Serrano seem to respond mainly to patch level, rather than to within-patch (edge effects) or landscape (isolation) level variables. Our results suggest that small Chaco Serrano remnants, by supporting larger ground-dwelling insect assemblages, may play an important role from a conservation viewpoint.Fil: Moreno, Maria Laura. Los vástagos obtenidos fueron enraizados mediante su cultivo en ¼ MS + 6 mg/L de IBA.Plants of two clones (CH 14 INTA and CH 318 INTA) of tea (Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze) were regenerated by in vitro culture of three types of explants disinfected by immersion in 70% ethanol (1 min) and 1.5% sodium hypochlorite (20 min). The best medium for shoot regeneration from uninodal segments, for both clones, as well as for axillary buds of CH 14 INTA clone was ½ MS + 1 mg/L BAP. While the best medium for axillary buds of CH 318 clone was ½ MS + 1 mg/L BAP + 1 mg/L AG3. For meristems culture, the best medium, for both clones was ½ MS + 1 mg/L KIN + 1 mg/L AG3. Rooting of regenerated shoots were achieved by culture them on ¼ MS + 6 mg/L IBA.Fil: Molina, Sandra P.. Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria (Argentina). Abstract. The aim of this study was to examine family functioning of different family members of adolescents with eating disorders (ED) at the start of psychotherapy and analyze the differences in their perception, since the approach of Circumplex Model of Marital and Family Systems. The study included 170 people grouped in 20 of adolescents with ED (father, mother, adolescent and sibling closest in age) and 26 control families. For this analysis, the Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale and the Adolescent-Parent Communication Inventory were used. The clinical families had lower clinical cohesion, less open communications and more communication problems. Siblings perceived less cohesion than the rest of the family and also reported having a negative communication pattern with their parents. The family functioning perception differs between family members, that ́s why perception of one member is not generalizable to all family group. The inclusion of siblings allows detecting non shared family environmental factors. We discuss the implication of these results in the psychotherapeutic treatment.   Key words: Family Functioning, Eating Disorders, Adolescents, Siblings.
