Pineapple (Ananas comosus) is a horticultural species of the Bromeliaceae family of high socioeconomic interest, widely cultivated around the world. The multiplication of pineapple seedlings in the field can be time-consuming, requiring a significant labor investment. The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of continuous and temporary immersion systems in the micropropagation scale-up of the species. Shoots were obtained from explants subcultured in flasks with gelled culture medium and without gas exchange. The shoots were transferred to liquid MS medium supplemented with 2mM NAA, and 4mM BAP, and cultivated in four different devices: sealed flasks, flasks with semipermeable gas membranes, RITA®, and twin-flasks. After 45 days of cultivation, plant growth, fresh mass increment, the stomatal density of the abaxial surface of the leaves, the maximum quantum yield of the photosystem II, and contents of chlorophyll and carotenoids were analyzed. Significant differences were observed in plant growth, stomatal density, and contents of chlorophyll and carotenoids. The twin-flasks and RITA® devices revealed better results in morphological parameters, such as plant growth and stomatal density, while the treatments in sealed flasks and with membrane stood out in the chlorophyll content.O abacaxi (Ananas comosus) é uma espécie hortícola da família Bromeliaceae de alto interesse socioeconômico, amplamente cultivada em todo o mundo.

Binge eating disorders and psychotherapy: is it possible to systematize a psychodynamic formulation case?

The Core Conflictual Relationship Theme (CCRT) method establishes psychotherapeutic guidelines for a patient's relational patterns. The CCRT was used in the analysis of narratives coming from psychodynamic psychotherapy sessions (taped and transcribed) from a patient suffering from Binge Eating Episodes. The CCRT method made it possible to systematize the connection between psychological conflicts and symptoms, not always an easy task for psychiatrists and psychologists in training.O método Tema Central de Conflito nos Relacionamentos - CCRT sistematiza as inferências feitas por psicoterapeutas dos padrões de relacionamento de pacientes submetidos à psicoterapia.

A Solution for the Generalized Synchronization of a Class of Chaotic Systems Based on Output Feedback

    Get PDF
A solution to the output-feedback generalized synchronization problem for two chaotic systems, namely, the master and the slave, is presented. The solution assumes that the slave is controlled by a single input, and the states of each system are partially known. To this end, both systems are expressed in their corresponding observable generalized canonical form, through their differential primitive element. The nonavailable state variables of both systems are recovered using a suitable Luenberger observer. The convergence analysis was carried out using the linear control approach in conjunction with the Lyapunov method. Convincing numerical simulations are presented to assess the effectiveness of the obtained solution

Introduction Phyllodes tumor (PT) is a rare tumor of the breast, representing less than 1% of all breast neoplasms (1) and 2 to 3% of fibroepithelial tumors (7). This neoplasm is classified as: Benign PT, Borderline PT and Malignant PT (Norris and Taylor-WHO) (9). Objective To carry out a review about the diagnosis and treatment of phyllodes tumor. Development PTs are fibroepithelial neoplasms that according to stromal cellularity, nuclear atypia, mitotic rate, heterologous elements are classified as: benign, borderline and malignant (1). The maximum incidence occurs between 35-55 years. Imaging diagnosis is based on the use of mammography, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging and radioguided core biopsy. Optimal surgical management is the fundamental tool in PT. There is controversy about the use of adjuvant treatment with radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Conclusions: PT is a benign neoplasm of the breast, surgery is the treatment of choice. The free edge greater than 1 cm recommended by the NCCN is predictive of a lower percentage of local recurrence. Complementary treatments with radiotherapy and chemotherapy are controversial.

UID/FIS/04559/2020 UID/MULTI/04046/2020 Project No. PTDC/FIS-AQM/31969/20 Grant No. 2017/25/B/ST2/00901The Kα and Kβ x-ray spectra of Se, Y, and Zr were studied experimentally and theoretically in order to obtain information on the Kα1 line asymmetry and the spin doublet in Kβ1,3 diagram lines. Using a high-resolution antiparallel double-crystal x-ray spectrometer, we obtained the line shapes, that is, asymmetry index and natural linewidths. We found that the corrected full width at half maximum of the Kα1 and Kα2 lines as a function of Z is in good agreement with the data in the literature. Furthermore, satellite lines arising from shake-off appear in the low-energy side of the Kα1 and Kα2 lines in Se but, in Y and Zr, it was very difficult to identify the contribution of the shake process to the overall lines. The Kβ1,3 natural linewidth of these elements was also corrected using the appropriate instrumental function for this type of x-ray spectrometer, and the spin doublet energies were obtained from the peak positions. The corrected full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the Kβ1 x-ray lines increases linearly with Z, but this tendency was found to be, in general, not linear for Kβ3 x-ray lines. This behavior may be due to the existence of satellite lines originated from shake processes. Simulated line profiles, obtained using the multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock formalism, accounting for radiative and radiationless transitions and shake-off processes, show a very good agreement with the high-resolution experimental spectra.publishersversionpublishe

Establishing Streptomycin Epidemiological Cut-Off Values for Salmonella and Escherichia coli

    Get PDF
This study was conducted to elucidate the accuracy of the current streptomycin epidemiological cut-off value (ECOFF) for Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp. A total of 236 Salmonella enterica and 208 E. coli isolates exhibiting MICs between 4 and 32¿mg/L were selected from 12 countries. Isolates were investigated by polymerase chain reaction for aadA, strA, and strB streptomycin resistance genes. Out of 236 Salmonella isolates, 32 (13.5%) yielded amplicons for aadA (n¿=¿23), strA (n¿=¿9), and strB (n¿=¿11). None of the 60 Salmonella isolates exhibiting MIC 4¿mg/L harbored resistance genes. Of the Salmonella isolates exhibiting MICs 8¿mg/L, 16¿mg/L, and 32¿mg/L, 1.6%, 15%, and 39%, respectively, tested positive for one or more genes. For most monitoring programs, the streptomycin ECOFF for Salmonella is wild type (WT) =32 or =16¿mg/L. A cut-off value of WT =32¿mg/L would have misclassified 13.5% of the strains as belonging to the WT population, since this proportion of strains harbored resistance genes and exhibited MICs =32¿mg/L. Out of 208 E. coli strains, 80 (38.5%) tested positive for aadA (n¿=¿69), strA (n¿=¿18), and strB (n¿=¿31). Of the E. coli isolates exhibiting MICs of 4¿mg/L, 8¿mg/L, 16¿mg/L, and 32¿mg/L, 3.6%, 17.6%, 53%, and 82.3%, respectively, harbored any of the three genes. Based on the European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing guidelines (ECOFF =16¿mg/L), 25% of the E. coli strains presenting MIC =16¿mg/L would have been incorrectly categorized as belonging to the WT population. The authors recommend an ECOFF value of WT =16¿mg/L for Salmonella and WT =8¿mg/L for E. coli
