Free energies as invariants of TeichmĂŒller like structures

    Get PDF
A TeichmĂŒller like structure on the space of d-degree holomorphic maps on the circle S1, marked by conjugations to the map z 7→ z d, can be defined. Here we introduce a definition of free energy associated to this kind of dynamics as an invariant of equivalence classes in the TeichmĂŒller space. This quantity encodes a length spectrum of rotation cycles in S1.Fil: Meson, Alejandro Mario. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones CientĂficas y TĂ©cnicas. On the topological entropy of the irregular part of v-statistics multifractal spectra

    Get PDF
Let (x, d) be a compact metric space and f : x → x, if xr is the product of r−copies of x, r ≄ 1, and φ : xr → r, then the multifractal decomposition for v −statistics is given by eφ (α) = ( x : lim n→∞ 1 nr p 0≀i1≀...≀ir≀n−1 φ ÂĄ f i1 (x) , ..., fir (x) Âą = α ) . The irregular part, or historic set, of the spectrum is the set points x ∈ x, for which the limit does not exist. In this article we prove that for dynamical systems with specification, the irregular part of the v −statistics spectrum has topological entropy equal to that of the whole space x.Fil: Meson, Alejandro Mario. Convergence of the barycentre of measures from Fuchsian action groups

    Get PDF
We prove the pointwise ergodic convergence of the sequence of barycentres of empirical measures which are defined from the action of Fuchsian groups and by maps valuated in CAT(0)−spaces. A result of this nature was established by Austin from actions of amenable groups and defining the empirical measures from FĂžlner sequences. Here we de- fine different sequences of barycentres, in particular we do not consider a topological structure on the group and FĂžlner sequences.Fil: Meson, Alejandro Mario. Bounds for Estimators of Ergodic Averages

    Get PDF
We consider different ergodic averages and estimate the measure of the set of points in which the averages apart from a given value. The cases considered are empirical measures of cylinders in symbolic spaces and averages of maps given a kind Lyapunov exponents, in a such spaces. Besides we obtain bounds for the fluctuations of ergodic averages from amenable action groups. The bounds obtained are valid for any štimeš, not only, like in case of large deviations, for asymptotic values.Fil: Meson, Alejandro Mario. On the convergence of spherical multiergodic averages for Markov action groups

    Get PDF
In this note we study the norm convergence of multiple ergodic spherical averages from actions of word hyperbolic groups or more generaly strongly Markov groups. The objective is the generalization of the results by Bufetov, Khristoforov and Klimenko and by Pollicott and Sharp. We use the techniques that Walsh introduced for proving the norm convergence of multiple ergodic averages from measure-preserving transformations and for integer valuated polynomials.Fil: Meson, Alejandro Mario.

The Image of the United States in the Israeli-Palestinian relationships from 1988 to 1992

USA’s image throughout the world usually symbolizes force, security, power of a great country but most of all the power of the dollar. America appears as the world’s leading economy far ahead of all others. She exerts an imperial economy and her military power is apparent on a world level. However, the United States also evoke, for some, vice, dirty money and decadence. Sometimes loved, sometimes decried, the United States still fascinated. During our research in Jerusalem for our doctorate i..

The thermodynamic approach to multifractal analysis

Most results in multifractal analysis are obtained using either a thermodynamic approach based on existence and uniqueness of equilibrium states or a saturation approach based on some version of the specification property. A general framework incorporating the most important multifractal spectra was introduced by Barreira and Saussol, who used the thermodynamic approach to establish the multifractal formalism in the uniformly hyperbolic setting, unifying many existing results. We extend this framework to apply to a broad class of non-uniformly hyperbolic systems, including examples with phase transitions. In the process, we compare this thermodynamic approach with the saturation approach and give a survey of many of the multifractal results in the literature.Comment: 51 pages, minor corrections, added formal statements of new results to "applications" sectio

    Humane Metrics/Metrics Noir

That Elsevier/RELX group has now rebranded itself as a “global provider of information and analytics,” seems indicative of the way academic publishing is increasingly moving into the highly pro table data analytics market. Here the linking of journals and scholarly social networks to the data underlying them through article level metrics, citation and download gures, usage statistics, ratings and altmetrics, serves as an opportunity to further extract value from the relationalities of scholarly publishing. Connect this to the demand of neoliberal governments for bibliometrics to index and rank scholars and their universities in order to measure impact and excellence, and enable accountability and transparency as part of national research assessment exercises, and it is clear that the logic of calculation and its accompanying mechanisms of surveillance and control is now omnipresent in scholarly publishing—and this includes requirements towards researchers to measure and monitor themselves as “brands.” The texts in this pamphlet will ask, what are the implications of this state of a airs for scholarship and for the value of expertise and democratic judgement? Is it indeed the case that, as Chris Newfield argues “with indicators ascendant over judgment itself, and tied to complicated, obscure, or proprietary procedures, metrics can pacify the interpretive powers of the public and professionals alike”? Yet the authors of this pamphlet will also explore strategies for pushing back against the metrification of scholarship and publishing
