The Noncommutative Doplicher-Fredenhagen-Roberts-Amorim Space
This work is an effort in order to compose a pedestrian review of the
recently elaborated Doplicher, Fredenhagen, Roberts and Amorim (DFRA)
noncommutative (NC) space which is a minimal extension of the DFR space. In
this DRFA space, the object of noncommutativity () is a
variable of the NC system and has a canonical conjugate momentum. The DFRA
formalism is constructed in an extended space-time with independent degrees of
freedom associated with the object of noncommutativity . A
consistent algebra involving the enlarged set of canonical operators is
described, which permits one to construct theories that are dynamically
invariant under the action of the rotation group. A consistent classical
mechanics formulation is analyzed in such a way that, under quantization, it
furnishes a NC quantum theory with interesting results. The Dirac formalism for
constrained Hamiltonian systems is considered and the object of
noncommutativity plays a fundamental role as an independent
quantity. It is also explained about the generalized Dirac equation issue, that
the fermionic field depends not only on the ordinary coordinates but on
as well. The dynamical symmetry content of such fermionic
theory is discussed, and we show that its action is invariant under . In the last part of this work we analyze the complex scalar fields using
this new framework. As said above, in a first quantized formalism,
and its canonical momentum are seen as
operators living in some Hilbert space. In a second quantized formalism
perspective, we show an explicit form for the extended Poincar\'e generators
and the same algebra is generated via generalized Heisenberg relations. We also
consider a source term and construct the general solution for the complex
scalar fields using the Green function technique
Knowledge of results precision and learning : a review

En este articulo, de acuerdo con lo expuesto anteriormente y el análisis de la investigación realizada en el ámbito de la precisión del conocimiento de los resultados, enfocaremos la influencia de otras variables mencionadas, por ejemplo: las características de la habilidad motora, el nivel de desarrollo de la persona y su capacidad de procesar la informaciónThe quality of the information given to the subject after performance, particulary the Knowledge of Results (KR) precision, seems to have a positive influence on the learning process. In this article, we review the investigation produced in KR precision and emphasize the influence of some variables, like the task characteristics, the development level of subjects and their capacity to process KR informatio
Diagnosing Potts criticality and two-stage melting in one-dimensional hard-boson models
We investigate a model of hard-core bosons with infinitely repulsive nearest-
and next-nearest-neighbor interactions in one dimension, introduced by Fendley,
Sengupta and Sachdev in Phys. Rev. B 69, 075106 (2004). Using a combination of
exact diagonalization, tensor network, and quantum Monte Carlo simulations, we
show how an intermediate incommensurate phase separates a crystalline and a
disordered phase. We base our analysis on a variety of diagnostics, including
entanglement measures, fidelity susceptibility, correlation functions, and
spectral properties. According to theoretical expectations, the
disordered-to-incommensurate-phase transition point is compatible with
Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless universal behaviour. The second transition is
instead non-relativistic, with dynamical critical exponent . For the
sake of comparison, we illustrate how some of the techniques applied here work
at the Potts critical point present in the phase diagram of the model for
finite next-nearest-neighbor repulsion. This latter application also allows to
quantitatively estimate which system sizes are needed to match the conformal
field theory spectra with experiments performing level spectroscopy.Comment: 18 pages, 14 figure
Exploiting Template Metaprogramming to customize an object-oriented operating system
Nowadays, the growing complexity of embedded systems demands for configurability, variability and reuse. Conditional compilation and object-orientation are two of the most applied approaches in the management of system variability. While the former increases the code management complexity, the latter leverages the needed modularity and adaptability to simplify the development of reusable and customizable software at the expense of performance and memory penalty. This paper shows how C++ TMP (Template Metaprogramming) can be applied to manage the variability of an object-oriented operating system and at the same time get ride out of the performance and memory footprint overhead. In doing so, it will be statically generated only the desired functionalities, thus ensuring that code is optimized and adjusted to application requirements and hardware resources.
Experiments with embedded system design at UMinho and AIT
Nowadays, embedded systems are central to modern life,
mainly due to the scientific and technological advances of the last decades
that started a new reality in which the embedded systems market has
been growing steadily, along with a monthly or even weekly emergence
of new products with different applications across several domains. This
embedded system ubiquity was the drive for the following question ”Why
should we focus on embedded systems design?” that was answered in [1,
2] with the following points: (1) high and fast penetration in products
and services due to the integration of networking, operating system and
database capabilities, (2) very strategic field economically and (3) a new
and relatively undefined subject in academic environment. Other adja-
cent questions have been raised such as ”Why is the design of embedded
systems special?”. The answer for this last question is based mainly on
several problems raised by the new technologies, such as the need for
more human resources in specialized areas and high learning curve for
system designers. As pointed in [1], these problems can prevent many
companies from adopting these new technologies or force them not to
respond timely in mastering these technological and market challenges.
In this paper, it is described how staff at ESRG-UMinho

faced the embedded systems challenges at several levels. It starts to de-
scribe the development of the educational context for the new technolo-
gies and show how our Integrated Master Curriculum in Industrial Elec-
tronics and Computer Engineering has been adapted to satisfy the needs
of the major university customers, the industry
ClimaWin : an intelligent window for optimal ventilation and minimum thermal loss
In this paper the ClimaWin concept is introduced. The ClimaWin project's main goals are to improve both indoor air quality and the energy efficiency of new and refurbished buildings, through the use of novel green smart windows. Generally, in order to improve windows' energy efficiency better insulation materials are used in windows frames and glasses. However, this approach leads to a severe deterioration of indoor air quality (IAQ) especially in buildings that are not equipped with heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAQ) systems. The Climawin windows do not require wires neither for power nor for communications. The window is powered through a battery (for blind operation) and a solar panel, which makes it an ideal solution for retrofitting. In order to achieve the energy efficiency requirements, the Climawin system hardware, the microcontroller software architecture and the radio communication strategy were designed for low power consumption. Furthermore, all the information about the system status can be monitored and actuated using intuitive graphical applications developed for PCs and Android OS smartphones. A remote database keeps all the relevant information about the system, making it easy to detect any anomaly or even to adjust the control algorithm parameters from a remote location. A full-set of web services are also provided in order to simplify the communication with home automation systems.Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT
Molecular Phylogeny of the Myxobolus and Henneguya Genera with Several New South American Species
The present study consists of a detailed phylogenetic analysis of myxosporeans of the Myxobolus and Henneguya genera, including sequences from 12 Myxobolus/Henneguya species, parasites of South American pimelodids, bryconids and characids. Maximum likelihood and maximum parsimony analyses, based on 18 S rDNA gene sequences, showed that the strongest evolutionary signal is the phylogenetic affinity of the fish hosts, with clustering mainly occurring according to the order and/or family of the host. of the 12 South American species studied here, six are newly described infecting fish from the Brazilian Pantanal wetland. Henneguya maculosus n. sp. and Myxobolus flavus n. sp. were found infecting both Pseudoplatystoma corruscans and Pseudoplatystoma reticulatum; Myxobolus aureus n. sp. and Myxobolus pantanalis n. sp. were observed parasitizing Salminus brasiliensis and Myxobolus umidus n. sp. and Myxobolus piraputangae n. sp. were detected infecting Brycon hilarii.Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)Centro Nacional de Pesquisa e Conservacao de Peixes Continentais of the Instituto Chico Mendes de Conservacao da BiodiversidadeConselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)Univ São Paulo, Fac Zootecnia & Engn Alimentos, Dept Vet Med, Pirassununga, SP, BrazilUniversidade Federal de São Paulo, Dept Ciencias Biol, Diadema, SP, BrazilUniv Estadual Campinas, Inst Biol, Dept Biol Anim, Campinas, SP, BrazilInst Chico Mendes Conservacao Biodiversidade, Ctr Nacl Pesquisa & Conservacao Peixes Continenta, Pirassununga, SP, BrazilUniversidade Federal de São Paulo, Dept Ciencias Biol, Diadema, SP, BrazilFAPESP: 06/59075-6FAPESP: 2009/03320-0CNPq: 477658/2010-5Web of Scienc
Resistance of Clostridium difficile from ribotype 017 to imipenem: contribution of the whole genome sequencing
entre 2012 e 2015 de 15 hospitais em Portugal, foram incluídas no estudo;
do genoma completo.
Clostridium dif ficile is a major cause of healthcare-associated infections.
Here, we characterized C. dif ficile strains isolated in Por tuguese
hospitals, in order to search for impenem resistance and the underlying
genetic determinants. Imipenem susceptibility testing by agar gradient
dif fusion was per formed on 191 C. dif ficile strains, isolated from 15 portuguese
hospitals, between 2012-2015. Some of the imipenem-resistant
and imipenem-susceptible strains were selected for downstream phenotypic
analyses and for whole genome sequencing (WGS). Resistance to
imipenem was detected in 24 (12.6 %) strains, 22 of which were ribotype
(RT) 017 strains, only positive for toxin B, isolated in the same hospital,
and presenting resistance to several other antibiotics. Through analysis
of WGS data, two amino acid changes (Ala555Thr and Tyr721Ser) targeting
the transpeptidase domain of two penicillin-binding proteins (PBP)
were identified. An additional PBP was also identified in this ribotype.
We describe, for the first time, mutations in PBP-encoding genes as the
probable genetic basis for C. dif ficile imipenem resistance.
