This paper proposes a parameterized definition for fuzzy comparators on complex fuzzy datatypes like fuzzy collections with conjunctive semantics and fuzzy objects. This definition and its implementation on a Fuzzy Object-Relational Database Management System (FORDBMS) provides the designer with a powerful tool to adapt the behavior of these operators to the semantics of the considered application."Consejeria de Innovacion Ciencia y Empresa de Andalucia" (Spain) P06-TIC-01570 P07-TIC-02611Ministry of Science and Innovation, Spain (MICINN) Spanish Government TIN2009-08296 TIN2007-68084-C02-0

    Get PDF

Relations between positive psychotic symptoms and ideas of reference observation and communication

    Get PDF
The ideas of reference (IOR) are observable in varied psychopathological manifestations, although predominate in psychotic disorders. We tried to study the IOR according to their content (observation, communication, and other IOR). We tried to determine if these kinds of IOR are separable, and also to observe their relationship with some positive symptoms. Participated 364 patients (39 participants with schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders). The instruments used were the Referential Thinking Scale (REF) and BPRS rating-scale. Statistically significant differences between the observation and communication IOR were found, and also between the communication IOR and other IOR. Significant positive correlations between observation IOR and grandiosity were reached, and between observation IOR and suspicion (persecution delusion in BPRS). The observation IOR are rather indicator of delusional severity in general than a specific content of psychopathology, and this kind of IOR are not restricted to the persecutory delusions

In the present paper, we describe the work being carried out by a group of professors so as to implement the follow-up and feedback processes of the activities students do throughout the first academic years in their Engineering studies. Not to mention, this project is within the EHEA (European Higher Education Area) framework. Our results show that these processes are key to enhance students learning, they can also have an impact in their academic performance and can be optimized in such a way that professors can assume the time it requires.Peer Reviewe

Contribution of prosthetic treatment considerations for dental extractions of permanent teeth

Background. Tooth loss is an easily identifiable outcome that summarizes a complex suite of factors in an individual’s history of dental disease and its treatment by dental services over a lifetime. Assessment of overall tooth loss data is essential for epidemiologically evaluating the adequacy of dental care provided at a systems level, as well as for placing in context tooth loss for non-disease causes. For example, when derived from prosthetic treatment planning, the latter may unfortunately lead to some teeth being extracted (pulled) for the sake of better comprehensive clinical results. The objective of the present manuscript was to identify the contribution to overall tooth loss, by extraction of permanent teeth because of prosthetic treatment reasons. Material and Methods. A cross-sectional study included sex, age, total number of extractions performed by subject, sextant (anterior vs. posterior), group of teeth (incisors, canines, premolars and molars), upper or lower arch, and the main reason underlying extraction (extraction for any reason vs. prosthetic treatment), in patients 18 years of age and older seeking care at a dental school clinic in Mexico. A multivariate logistic regression model was generated. Results. A total of 749 teeth were extracted in 331 patients; 161 teeth (21.5% of total) were extracted for explicit prosthetic treatment indications. As age increased, the likelihood of having an extraction for prosthetic reasons increased 3% (OR = 1.03, p < 0.001). Women (OR = 1.57, p < 0.05) were more likely to be in this situation, and molars (OR = 2.70, p < 0.001) were most at risk. As the total number of extractions increased, the risk of having an extraction for prosthetic reasons decreased (OR = 0.94, p < 0.05). Conclusions. A significant amount (21.5%) of the extractions of permanent teeth were performed for prosthetic reasons in this dental school clinical environment; age, sex, type of tooth, and the total number of extractions moderated such pattern

The Extra Virgin Olive Oil phenolic compounds () oleacein and () oleocanthal inhibit tumor cell autophagy

Our group has recently shown that the antitumor Extra Virgin Olive Oil phenolic compounds (—)oleocanthal and (—)oleacein also behave as antiangiogenic agents. Interestingly, it has been described that phenolic compounds found in the Mediterranean diet affect the autophagy pathway. Based on this background, we studied the modulatory effects of (—)oleocanthal and (—)oleacein on tumor cell autophagy. Methodologically, the tumor cell lines MDAMB231, MCF7 and HT1080 cell lines were used in in vitro cellular and molecular studies of the autophagy flux and key mediators of this process, and High Content Screening (HCS) System using Perkin Elmer Operetta for single-cell analysis was performed in these cells. Interestingly, (—)oleocanthal and (—)oleacein repressed the autophagy flux of MDAMB231 and MCF7 submitted to autophagy inducing conditions (severe starving) at doses in the low micromolar range. In addition, key autophagy mediators, like LC3 or WIPI2 proteins, were dramatically reduced in the same settings, as seen in immunohistochemical studies. Furthermore, preliminary results of HCS in tumor cells revealed depletory effects on autophagy by using specifics dyes for this process at the single-cell level. Altogether, our results point to a drastic inhibitory effect of (—)oleocanthal and (—)oleacein on tumor cell autophagy at low doses.[Grants: PID2022-138181OB-I00, PID2019-105010RB-I00 and RTI2018-098560-BC22 (Spanish Government), UMA18-FEDERJA-220, and PY20_00257 (Andalusian Government and FEDER).
