Violence and Drug Prohibition in Colombia

We assess the role of inequality, poverty and drug prohibition, in explaining homicide rates(HR) in Colombia using panel data at the municipality level between 1990 and 1998. We use maximum likelihood estimation to evaluate several specifications of spatial models. When we pool the data we find a significant relation between the HR and poverty which is reinforced when the inequality variables are included in the regression. We use rates of arrest related to drugs as proxy for drug prohibition enforcement, and find no evidence of any net effect in this exercise. We proceed to estimate the model for every year since 1991 to 1998, and find mixed results along the analyzed period, with statistically significant positive coefficients for some years, evidencing a positive net effect for those years of drug prohibition on violence. This result calls for caution in the implementation of global policies meant to improve specific countries’ welfare, such as drug prohibition policies. On the other hand, our proxy for income inequality is not related to violence, while its relationship with poverty is weakly positive.Drug Prohibition, Violence, Crime, Spatial Econometrics

La extensa producción arquitectónica de Mendes da Rocha resulta difícil de clasificar bajo el reduccionismo de los ‘ismos’ porque supone una revisión crítica y de síntesis de una modernidad replanteada. Se abordan tres aproximaciones al conjunto de su obra. Primera: la nueva tradición moderna de la arquitectura brasileña atendiendo a la implicación urbana de sus obras y a la escala de intervención (objeto, contexto, territorio). Segunda: la simbiosis entre arte y técnica desde una poética que tiende a la reducción de los elementos y a la simbolización de arquetipos. Tercera: la relativa al modo en que el maestro se enfrenta a las obras de intervención en el patrimonio recurriendo a una estética de la pobreza. Pocas, pero contundentes palabras: sencillez y humildad como atributos de la rotundidad.The extensive architectural production of Mendes da Rocha is difficult to classify under the reductionism of the ‘isms’ since it involves a reevaluation and a synthesis of a reviewed modernity. Three approaches are addressed to his work. First: the new modern tradition of Brazilian architecture, considering the urban implications of their work and the scale of intervention (object, context, territory). Second: the symbiosis between art and technology from a poetry that tends to reduce the elements and the symbolization of archetypes. Third, relative to how the master faces the works of intervention works in the patrimony using aesthetics of poverty. Analysis of Sustainability Activities in Spanish Elementary Education Textbooks

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development sets up education as a fundamental tool to educate and raise awareness of the importance of sustainable development; thus, education in schools must fulfill this purpose. Regarding to Primary Education in Spain, legislation establishes that sustainability must be addressed in a transversal manner, although it is explicitly mentioned in the curriculum as content to be addressed by the social sciences subject. Given that, in practice, textbooks are one of the most used tools by teachers, in this paper, we analyse the treatment given to sustainability by the activities of the textbooks of social sciences in Primary Education of the main Spanish publishers, from two perspectives: analysis of cognitive complexity and study of the subtopic regarding sustainability addressed in each activity. For the analysis of cognitive complexity of activities, Bloom’s taxonomy (six cognitive categories) and Costa’s questioning levels (three levels of questioning) were used. The results reveal an abundance of cognitively simple activities, along with a shortage of cognitively complex activities. The most addressed subtopics are environmental problems and recycling

La presente reflexión es parte del proceso pedagógico e investigativo de los espacios académicos de Fundamentos de la composición y Taller de Composición Coreográfica I realizados desde el año 2012, y del Ensamble (ensambla tu gag) que es dirigido conjuntamente con las maestras María Teresa García y Dora López en el Proyecto Curricular de Arte Danzario, en la Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas, Bogotá, Colombia. Este último espacio es además parte de un proyecto de la línea de investigación en estudios críticos de las corporeidades, las sensibilidades y las performatividades.En la presentación se propone una sistematización de la experiencia creativa y pedagógica en dichos espacios académicos que dialoga con imaginarios ampliamente difundidos en Colombia sobre los modos de relación del cuerpo con la práctica danzaria y su desarrollo escénico. Estos imaginarios han sido examinados a la luz de experiencias creativas permitiendo la recolección de alguna evidencia empírica que, cruzada con conceptualizaciones de investigaciones realizadas de manera precedente en el ámbito de las prácticas danzarías y la creación, esperan brindar un panorama de la danza en Colombia y la posición desde la cual dialoga con ese panorama el Proyecto Curricular de Arte Danzario.Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educació

Analysis of the Utilization of Air-Cooled Blast Furnace Slag as Industrial Waste Aggregates in Self-Compacting Concrete

In this work, the effects of replacing the aggregates of self-compacting concrete by air-cooled blast furnace slag have been analysed. Different mixes have been manufactured by substituting the fine and coarse natural aggregates by air-cooled blast furnace slag. The fracture energy and the tensile and compressive strength have been determined for each mix. The self-compacting properties of the mixes, or the absence of them, have been observed. The main goals of this research are the decrease of the price of aggregates, reduction of the industrial waste, and attenuation the rate of consumption of natural resources. The results show that the self-compactability of the concrete is gradually lost as the slag content is increased, thus, when the ratio of replacement is low, the concrete keeps the self-compacting properties. Nevertheless, the loss of self-compaction affects the mechanical properties by increasing its strength. Diagnosis and treatment for central Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma in the mandible : report of a clinical case in a young patient

A clinical case of a 13 year old male patient with a malignant tumor in the mandibular body area with two years of evolution and associated pain is reported. It was initially diagnosed as low grade central mucoepidermoid carcinoma through Hematoxylin and Eosin (H-E) staining in multiple biopsies. Considering the clinical and radiographic characteristics of the lesion, it was necessary to confirm the diagnosis through Periodic acid-Schiff (PAS). The treatment involved hemimandibulectomy, neck emptying, and complementary radiotherapy. Caracterización de la cultura organizacional de los establecimientos comerciales del Centro Comercial San Pedro Plaza de la ciudad de Neiva

El presente documento sintetiza del desarrollo y los resultados de la investigación “Caracterización de la Cultura Organizacional de los Establecimientos Comerciales del Centro Comercial San Pedro Plaza de la Ciudad de Neiva” adelantado como proyecto del Semillero de Investigación “Se Busca”, de la Facultad de Economía y Administración de la Universidad Surcolombiana.Se parte del complejidad de las organizaciones y del rol de la cultura organizacional en la concepción de las mismas, seguidamente se expone el diseño metodológico de la investigación y el trabajo de campo que se realizó para su elaboración por medio de lastécnicas de encuestas, entrevistas y observación directa. Finalmente se muestran las conclusiones y resultados el que se destaca que, si bien, en los locales del centro existe una cultura organizacional fuerte, hay algunos factores que deben ser mejorados

Tradition, technology and heritage in the works of Mendes da Rocha

La producción de Mendes da Rocha se suele enmarcar dentro del ‘regionalismo crítico’ ante la revisión del canon moderno del siglo XX. En este artículo se abordan tres aspectos de su arquitectura: tradición, técnica y patrimonio. El primero sitúa su obra como heredera de la praxis moderna brasileña preocupada por la configuración del espacio público; esta perspectiva permite entender su trabajo bajo el prisma de una creciente implicación urbana: la arquitectura como objeto, la arquitectura como entorno y la arquitectura como territorio. El segundo explora el énfasis puesto por Mendes en el par arte-técnica, empleando una poética de reducción de elementos y de simbolización de arquetipos que encuentra en el hormigón armado el léxico para la nueva sintaxis de la modernidad. Y el tercero desgrana el modo en que aborda la intervención en el patrimonio con una estética ‘puritana’, singularizada por estrategias sustractivas: intervenir también consiste en suprimir lo innecesario.The production of Mendes da Rocha is usually framed within ‘critical regionalism’ regarding the review of modern architectural canon in the twentieth century. Three aspects of his architecture are discussed here: tradition, technique and heritage. The first aspect sets his work as heir of modern Brazilian architecture concerned by the configuration of the public space. This outlook allows to understand his work under a growing urban concern: architecture as an object, architecture as part of the surroundings and architecture on the territorial scale. The second aspect explores the emphasis given by Mendes to the couple art-technique, developing a poetic based on the reduction of elements and the symbolization of archetypes which finds in reinforced concrete the appropriate lexicon for the new syntax of modernity. The third aspect reflects on the way he addresses his work in built heritage with a ‘puritan’ aesthetic singularised by subtractive strategies: designing may also imply suppressing the unnecessary

La mejora de la Fuerza Explosiva y la Resistencia durante un macrociclo en un equipo de fútbol semiprofresional

El rendimiento de los jugadores de fútbol es multifactorial. Este trabajo se va a centrar en el aspecto fisiológico de la fuerza y de la resistencia, fundamentales en este deporte. El objetivo de este estudio es establecer cómo evoluciona la fuerza explosiva y la resistencia durante un macrociclo de cuatro meses mediante test inespecíficos de fuerza como Squat Jump (SJ), Counter Movement Jump (CMJ) y Counter Movement Jump Free (CMJFree) y resistencia (Test Yoyo de Recuperación Intermitente) en futbolistas semiprofesionales. Se ha utilizado el programa SPSS versión 22 de la Universidad de Zaragoza para el análisis estadístico descriptivo dado en media y desviación típica y para el inferencial la T de Student y Anova de un factor estableciendo la significatividad en p˂ 0,05.Los resultados muestran una mejora del equipo en todos los test y variables analizadas obteniendo diferencias significativas. Al comparar por posiciones se obtiene que los porteros alcanzan los mejores valores en la potencia de los tres tipos de salto y son los mejores en la variable de altura del CMJFree, mientras que los defensas son los mejores en la variable de altura en los saltos de SJ y CMJ y en el test de resistencia. Al comparar las tomas entre posiciones los porteros son los que mejores valores obtienen tanto en el CMJFree altura como potencia encontrando diferencias significativas a su favor con el resto de posiciones.<br /

Aprendizaje de las artes visuales de los estudiantes del subnivel de educación básica superior

En el contexto actual la educación presenta grandes desafíos, el objetivo general del presente trabajo consiste en fomentar el interés en los estudiantes del subnivel de educación básica superior de la Unidad Educativa el Empalme, hacia el área de Educación Cultural y Artística (ECA) mediante el análisis crítico de las artes visuales apoyadas en modelos pedagógicos constructivistas. La problemática surge a partir de las situaciones observadas donde presentan métodos de estudios tradicionales, por lo que alumnos se comportan apáticos hacia el área de ECA que en efecto repercute directamente en los procesos cognitivos de los mismos. La metodología de estudio abarca un enfoque cualitativo, cuantitativo, documental y descriptivo. En conclusión la integración del&nbsp; constructivismo en el arte como parte del área ECA, contribuye al desarrollo integral del estudiante para mejorar su potencial, de la misma manera se convierten en una herramienta eficaz en los escenarios educativos para contribuir al profesorado en los procesos&nbsp; pedagógicos, considerando la enseñanza por proyectos que fomenta la autonomía y responsabilidad en el estudiante, convirtiéndose en el principal protagonistas en su proceso de aprendizaje a través de los talleres artísticos que contribuyen a la creatividad y a su desarrollo integral. Visual arts learning for students in the upper basic education sublevel ABSTRACT In the current context, education presents great challenges, the general objective of this work is to promote interest in students of the sub-level of higher basic education of the El Empalme Educational Unit towards the area of ​​Cultural and Artistic Education (ECA) through the analysis critic of the visual arts supported by constructivist pedagogical models. The problem arises from the observed situations where they present traditional study methods, so that students behave apathetic towards the area of ​​RCT, which in effect has a direct impact on their cognitive processes. The study methodology encompasses a qualitative, quantitative, documentary, and descriptive approach. In conclusion, the integration of constructivism in art as part of the ECA area, contributes to the comprehensive development of the student to improve their potential, in the same way they become an effective tool in educational settings to contribute to teachers in pedagogical processes, considering teaching by projects that fosters autonomy and responsibility in the student, becoming the main protagonists in their learning process through artistic workshops that contribute to creativity and their integral development.
