Conclusão: A Incontinência Urinária afeta o Funcionamento Sexual e estudos futuros poderão contemplar intervenções psicoeducativas, onde tenham em consideração os índices de funcionamento sexual e de forma a minimizar ou prevenir sintomatologia, promover uma gestão eficaz dos sintomas uroginecológicos e aumentar o acesso aos cuidados de saúde.ABSTRACT: Introduction: Urinary Incontinence has numerous consequences for the daily life of menopausal women, namely in terms of Sexual Functioning and Quality of Life. The aim of this study is to explore the impact of Urinary Incontinence on Female Sexual Functioning and Quality of Life in a Portuguese middle-aged clinical sample, considering age, affective-sexual relationship, and menopausal stage. Method: In this cross-sectional study, 1466 women with UI between 40-65 years old (Mage= 50,00; SDage= 6,58) participated. A structural equation model was developed to explore the relationships between the variables under study. Results: The structural model showed a good fit (TLI= .937; CFI= .946; RMSEA= .053; SRMR = .052). Female sexual functioning is negatively affected by UI symptoms (β= - .110; p <.001) , being impacted by age (β= - .088; p=.001), menopausal phase (β= - .105 ; p < .001), sexual affective relationship (β =.554; p < .001). Conclusion: Urinary Incontinence affects Sexual Functioning and future studies should contemplate psychoeducational interventions, considering women´s sexual functioning indices to minimize or prevent symptoms, promote effective management of urogynecological symptoms and increase access to health care

Pension expenditure determinants: the case of Portugal

    Get PDF
Assessing pension expenditure determinants is crucial for the sustainability of public finances. This study aims to disentangle the impact of demographic and economic variables, such as ageing, productivity, and unemployment, on pension expenditure in Portugal. With the use of time-series data, from 1975 to 2014, statistical evidence was found of co-integration between unemployed people aged between 15 and 64 years old, apparent productivity of labour, the old age dependency ratio and pension expenditure as a share of gross domestic product. The use of a vector error correction model, with impulse-response functions and variance decomposition, showed that ageing has an almost insignificant impact in the long-run, when compared with unemployment and productivity

Despite Being Distinguished as the 2020 European Green Capital, Lisbon Has Lost Public Green Areas over the Previous Decade

With the objective of assessing Lisbon’s environmental improvement and sustainable de- velopment, we measured the changes in Lisbon’s vegetation cover over the 2010–2020 timeframe considering three categories: public green areas (PGA), street trees (ST), and urban green infrastruc- ture (UGI). We calculated the vegetation cover (m2), vegetation cover per resident (m2 person−1), and % of vegetation cover. PGA and ST covers were made available by the municipality, while UGI cover was estimated from the NDVI calculated from multispectral satellite images (Landsat 7–8). Since only the PGA cover decreased 2% (the ST and UGI covers increased 38% and 5%, respectively), Lisbon has lost PGA over the previous decade. The values of PGA per resident were below the minimum value of 12 m2 person−1 at the city scale and in most parishes (19 parishes out of 24 in 2020). While the values of % of UGI were above the desired value of 30% at the city scale, in 2020 there were three parishes with values below the minimum of 5%. This information is important to prioritize measures that promote sustainable urbanization in those parishes. Our study raised many questions, suggesting the need to standardize the methods for measuring the urban vegetation.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Where in Europe is Chrysomya albiceps? Modelling present and future potential distributions

    Get PDF
Chrysomya albiceps (Wiedemann, 1819), a species of blowfly (Diptera, Calliphoridae), historically distributed throughout Southern Europe, has recently dispersed to cooler regions in Europe, which is an intriguing phenomenon. In this work, we used Maxent software to formulate climate suitability using a machine learning technique to investigate this fact. The bioclimatic variables that best explained the climate suitability were Annual Mean Temperature (67.7%) and Temperature Annual Range (21.4%). We found that C. albiceps is climatically suitable for several parts of Europe, except for high altitude areas like the Swiss Alps. In warmer countries such as Portugal, Spain and Italy, the entire coastal territory was the most suitable for the species. Future scenario models show that in these eastern countries and some northern areas, climate suitability has increased. This increase is reinforced when comparing the gains and losses in climate suitability between the present-day model and the future scenario models. These changes are most likely caused by changes in temperature, which is the main explanatory factor among the tested variables, for the climate suitability. As one of the most important species in forensic contexts and a potential myiasis agent, the expansion of C. albiceps to new locations cannot be neglected, and its expansion must be carefully monitored

Background: Nosocomial bloodstream infections (nBSIs) are an important cause of morbidity and mortality and are the most frequent type of nosocomial infection in pediatric patients. Methods: We identified the predominant pathogens and antimicrobial susceptibilities of nosocomial bloodstream isolates in pediatric patients (<= 16 years of age) in the Brazilian Prospective Surveillance for nBSIs at 16 hospitals from 12 June 2007 to 31 March 2010 (Br SCOPE project). Results: in our study a total of 2,563 cases of nBSI were reported by hospitals participating in the Br SCOPE project. Among these, 342 clinically significant episodes of BSI were identified in pediatric patients (<= 16 years of age). Ninety-six percent of BSIs were monomicrobial. Gram-negative organisms caused 49.0% of these BSIs, Gram-positive organisms caused 42.6%, and fungi caused 8.4%. the most common pathogens were Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) (21.3%), Klebsiella spp. (15.7%), Staphylococcus aureus (10.6%), and Acinetobacter spp. (9.2%). the crude mortality was 21.6% (74 of 342). Forty-five percent of nBSIs occurred in a pediatric or neonatal intensive-care unit (ICU). the most frequent underlying conditions were malignancy, in 95 patients (27.8%). Among the potential factors predisposing patients to BSI, central venous catheters were the most frequent (66.4%). Methicillin resistance was detected in 37 S. aureus isolates (27.1%). of the Klebsiella spp. isolates, 43.2% were resistant to ceftriaxone. of the Acinetobacter spp. and Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates, 42.9% and 21.4%, respectively, were resistant to imipenem. Conclusions: in our multicenter study, we found a high mortality and a large proportion of gram-negative bacilli with elevated levels of resistance in pediatric patients.Pfizer, Inc.Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)Inst Oncol Pediat IOP GRAAC, São Paulo, BrazilHosp Israelita Albert Einstein, São Paulo, BrazilUniversidade Federal de São Paulo UNIFESP, São Paulo, BrazilHosp 9 Julho, São Paulo, BrazilSanta Casa Porto Alegre, Porto Alegre, RS, BrazilHosp Conceicao, Porto Alegre, RS, BrazilHosp Base, Brasilia, DF, BrazilHosp Walter Cantidio, Fortaleza, Ceara, BrazilHosp Diadema, São Paulo, BrazilHosp Espanhol, Salvador, BA, BrazilHosp Coracao, Natal, RN, BrazilHosp UNIMED, Natal, RN, BrazilHosp Clin Goiania, Goiania, Go, BrazilHosp Rim & Hipertensao, São Paulo, BrazilUniv Fed Triangulo Mineiro, Uberaba, MG, BrazilVirginia Commonwealth Univ, Richmond, VA USAUniversidade Federal de São Paulo UNIFESP, São Paulo, BrazilFAPESP: 2006/57700-0Web of Scienc
