Producción CientíficaEl Emblematum liber del anticuario, poeta y artista Jean Jacques Boissard/Janus Jacobus Boissardus (Besançon,1528 - Metz, 1602) vio la luz el mismo año que el rey Enrique IV volvía al redil del catolicismo (1593) pese a las exhortaciones de >éodore de Bèza, sucesor de Jean Calvin. Esa conversión hizo que se desvanecieran las esperanzas de los protestantes, que confiaban en ver aliviada su situación con un rey calvinista; hubieron de esperar hasta el 13 de abril de 1598, en que, en virtud del edicto de Nantes, se permitió la libertad de culto en Francia. Sin embargo, ese edicto, por decisión real, desde el ,23 de mayo de 1592, se había aplicado ya en Metz

La préciosité: de l’éclat des salons aux précieuses ridicules

Le motif fondamental qui m’a conduite à choisir la préciosité comme thème de travail de fin d’études a été ceci: la double interprétation de la préciosité comme un phénomène, depuis son époque jusqu’à nos jours, tantôt positif comme négatif. Dans une première partie, nous allons aborder l’interprétation positive de la préciosité. D’une part, avec la description des salons de Madame de Rambouillet et de Mademoiselle de Scudéry, d’autre part, avec l’étude de l’oeuvre de Vincent Voiture et de la carte de Tendre. La mala imagen de la mujer en la literatura emblemática

Se analiza una selección de emblemas de los más destacados cultivadores, católicos y protestantes, del género emblemático en los siglos XVI y XVII (v. gr. B. Aneau, A. Bocchio, A. Junio, N. Reusner, D. Cramer, G. de Montenay). Dichos autores, que no se apartan de la tradición en lo que se refiere a las atribuciones femeninas y al papel de la mujer en la familia y en la sociedad, utilizan motivos, personajes, leyendas y fuentes greco-latinos a fin de ofrecer una imagen, en general poco halagadora, de los roles femeninos, lo que necesariamente es reflejo de la época y del entorno político, social y religioso en que se producen los libros de emblemas. Tales posturas contrastan con otras más abiertas –para aquel entonces– como la de Desiderio Erasmo, Tomás Moro o Juan Luis Vives.Universidad de Málaga. Producción CientíficaEl éxito del genus emblematicum, cuya fecha de nacimiento oficial se fija el 28 de febrero de 1531 según reza el colofón del Emblematum Liber de Andrea Alciato (Ausburgo, H. Steyner), animó a numerosos poetas de primera y de segunda fila a dejar su impronta también en este nuevo campo artístico-literario. Tal fue el caso del holandés Florentius Schoonhovius (Guda, 1594-1648), quien con poco más de veinte años decidió aplicar su estro poético a la composición de un libro de emblemas cuando estudiaba jurisprudencia en la Universidad de Leiden

From the reading of two novels by Gonzalo Torrente Ballester, La saga/fuga de J.B. and Fragmentos de Apocalipsis, will proceed to analyze the different ways of creating the two cities to which they are linked: Villasanta de la Estrella, related explicit fiction, and Castroforte del Baralla, related fiction implied.A partir de la lectura de dos novelas de Gonzalo Torrente Ballester, La saga/fuga de J.B. y Fragmentos de Apocalipsis, se procederá a analizar la diferente forma de creación de las dos ciudades a las que están vinculadas: Villasanta de la Estrella, relacionada con la ficción explícita, y Castroforte del Baralla, relacionada con la ficción implícita

Effects of non-unity Lewis numbers in diffusion Flames

The purpose of this work is to carry out direct numerícal simulations of diffusion controlled combustión with non-unity Lewis numbers for the reactants and producís, thus accounting for the düferential diífusion effects of the temperature and concentration fields. We use a formulation (Liñán (1991a)) based on combining the conservation equations in a way to elimínate the reaction terms similar to the method used by Burke and Schumann (1928) for unity Lewis numbers. We present calculations for an axisymmetric fuel jet and for a planar, time evolving mixing layer, leaving out the effects of thermal expansión and variations of the transport coefficients due to the heat reisase. Our results show that the front of the fíame sbifts toward the fuel or oxygen sides owing to the effect of the düferential diífusion and that the location of máximum temperature may not coincide with the fíame. The dependence of the distríbution of the reaction products on their Lewis number has been investigated

Waveplate retarders based on overhead transparencies

We describe procedures for constructing inexpensive waveplates of desired retardation out of ordinary commercially available transparencies. Various relevant properties of the transparencies are investigated: the dependence of retardation on rotation of the film, tilt, wavelength, position, and temperature. Constructing waveplates out of combinations of transparency sheets is also explored.Comment: 7 pages, 12 fig

On minimal extended representations of generalized power cones

In this paper, we analyze minimal representations of $(p,\boldsymbol{\alpha})$-power cones as simpler cones. We derive some new results on the complexity of the representations, and we provide a procedure to construct a minimal representation by means of second order cones in case $\boldsymbol{\alpha}$ and $p$ are rational. The construction is based on the identification of the cones with a graph, the mediated graph. Then, we develop a mixed integer linear optimization formulation to obtain the optimal mediated graph, and then, the minimal representation. We present the results of a series of computational experiments in order to analyze the computational performance of the approach, both to obtain the representation and its incorporation into a practical conic optimization model that arises in facility location.Comment: 23 pages, 8 figures, 4 table
