Regarding reliability and validity, internal consistency index was .757 and the correlation between the Short Depression-Happiness Scale (SDHS) and measures of others construct, General Health Question­naire (GHQ) and Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CESD) (CESD), were significance. Se realizó un análisis factorial exploratorio y confirmatorio para identificar la estructura factorial y el mejor ajuste del modelo. La solución estaba compuesta de un único factor.  Con respecto a la fiabilidad y vali­dez, el índice de consistencia interna fue de .757 y la correlación entre la Escala Breve de depresión-felicidad y las medidas de otros constructos, entre otros, el Cues­tionario de Salud General (GHQ) y el Centro de Escala de Depresión de Estudios Epidemiológicos (CESD) fue­ron significantes.     Adaptive Domotic System in Green Buildings

    This paper presents an adaptive domotic system in green buildings. In our case, the data of sensor and devices were controlled in CIESOL center. The adaptive domotic system uses a Fuzzy Lattice Reasoning classifier for predicting building energy performance depending on the user condition. Training and testing of classifiers were carried out with temperature condition data acquired for 4 months (February, May, July and November) in the case building called CIESOL. The results show a hihg accuracy rates with a mean absolute error between 0% and 0.21%

    A sensitivity study of bias and variance of k-fold cross-validation in prediction error estimation

    In the machine learning field the performance of a classifier is usually measured in terms of prediction error. In most real-world problems, the error cannot be exactly calculated and it must be estimated. Therefore, it’s important to choose an appropriate estimator of the error. This paper analyzes the statistical properties (bias and variance) of the k-fold cross-validation classification error estimator (k-cv). Our main contribution is a novel theoretical decomposition of the variance of the k-cv considering its sources of variance: sensitivity to changes in the training set and sensitivity to changes in the folds. The paper also compares the bias and variance of the estimator for different values of k. The empirical study has been performed in artificial domains because they allow the exact computation of the implied quantities and we can specify rigorously the conditions of experimentation. The empirical study has been performed for two different classifiers (naïve Bayes and nearest neighbor), different number of folds (2, 5, 10, n) and sample sizes, and training sets coming from assorted probability distributions

    Las actitudes del alumnado hacia el aprendizaje del inglés como idioma extranjero: estudio de una muestra en el sur de España

    Este estudio investiga las actitudes hacia el aprendizaje del inglés como idioma extranjero y si esas actitudes se ven afectadas por el sex, nota media en inglés, clases particulares, clase social y curso de iniciación al inglés. Los participantes fueron 177 alumnos matriculados en la Enseñanza Secundaria Obligatoria en cuatro institutos del sur de España. Desarrollamos el cuestionario a partir de los puestos en práctica por Gardner (1985), Jakobobitz (1970) y Madrid (1999). Los resultados muestran que las actitudes de esta muestra hacia el inglés son ligeramente positivas. No se encontraron correlaciones importantes entre actitudes y variables independientes. Sugerimos una explicación: el alumnado en las comunidades autónomas de Andalucía y Murcia aprende el inglés en contextos académicos sin interaccionar regularmente con la comunidad del otro idioma.This study examines the attitudes towards learning English as a foreign language and whether those attitudes are moderated by gender, average grade in English, private tutoring, social class, and grade they started to study English. Participants were 177 Compulsory Secondary Education students in four schools in the South of Spain. The measures used to assess attitudes were modeled after previous questionnaires by Gardner (1985), Jakobobitz (1970), and Madrid (1999). Results show that the attitudes of this sample towards English are slightly positive. No important correlations were found between attitudes and independent variables. One possible explanation is suggested: students in the autonomous communities of Andalusia and Murcia learn English in academic settings without regularly interacting with the target language community

    Multilevel fast multipole algorithm for fields

    An efficient implementation of the multilevel fast multipole algorithm is herein applied to accelerate the calculation of the electromagnetic near- and far-fields after the equivalent surface currents have been obtained. In spite of all the research efforts being drawn to the latter, the electric and/or magnetic fields (or other parameters derived from these) are ultimately the magnitudes of interest in most of the cases. Though straightforward, their calculation can be computationally demanding, and hence the importance of finding a sped-up accurate representation of the fields via a suitable setup of the method. A complete self-contained formulation for both near- and far-fields and for problems including multiple penetrable regions is shown in full detail. Through numerical examples we show that the efficiency and scalability of the implementation leads to a drastic reduction of the computation time.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad | Ref.     Planck 2018 results: XII. Galactic astrophysics using polarized dust emission

    Observations of the submillimetre emission from Galactic dust, in both total intensity I and polarization, have received tremendous interest thanks to the Planck full-sky maps. In this paper we make use of such full-sky maps of dust polarized emission produced from the third public release of Planck data. As the basis for expanding on astrophysical studies of the polarized thermal emission from Galactic dust, we present full-sky maps of the dust polarization fraction p, polarization angle ?, and dispersion function of polarization angles ??. The joint distribution (one-point statistics) of p and NH confirms that the mean and maximum polarization fractions decrease with increasing NH. The uncertainty on the maximum observed polarization fraction, pmax = 22.0?1.4+3.5% at 353 GHz and 80? resolution, is dominated by the uncertainty on the Galactic emission zero level in total intensity, in particular towards diffuse lines of sight at high Galactic latitudes. Furthermore, the inverse behaviour between p and ?? found earlier is seen to be present at high latitudes. This follows the ?????p?1 relationship expected from models of the polarized sky (including numerical simulations of magnetohydrodynamical turbulence) that include effects from only the topology of the turbulent magnetic field, but otherwise have uniform alignment and dust properties. Thus, the statistical properties of p, ?, and ?? for the most part reflect the structure of the Galactic magnetic field. Nevertheless, we search for potential signatures of varying grain alignment and dust properties. First, we analyse the product map ???×?p, looking for residual trends. While the polarization fraction p decreases by a factor of 3?4 between NH?=?1020?cm?2 and NH?=?2?×?1022?cm?2, out of the Galactic plane, this product ???×?p only decreases by about 25%. Because ?? is independent of the grain alignment efficiency, this demonstrates that the systematic decrease in p with NH is determined mostly by the magnetic-field structure and not by a drop in grain alignment. This systematic trend is observed both in the diffuse interstellar medium (ISM) and in molecular clouds of the Gould Belt. Second, we look for a dependence of polarization properties on the dust temperature, as we would expect from the radiative alignment torque (RAT) theory. We find no systematic trend of ???×?p with the dust temperature Td, whether in the diffuse ISM or in the molecular clouds of the Gould Belt. In the diffuse ISM, lines of sight with high polarization fraction p and low polarization angle dispersion ?? tend, on the contrary, to have colder dust than lines of sight with low p and high ??. We also compare the Planck thermal dust polarization with starlight polarization data in the visible at high Galactic latitudes. The agreement in polarization angles is remarkable, and is consistent with what we expect from the noise and the observed dispersion of polarization angles in the visible on the scale of the Planck beam. The two polarization emission-to-extinction ratios, RP/p and RS/V, which primarily characterize dust optical properties, have only a weak dependence on the column density, and converge towards the values previously determined for translucent lines of sight. We also determine an upper limit for the polarization fraction in extinction, pV/E(B???V), of 13% at high Galactic latitude, compatible with the polarization fraction p???20% observed at 353 GHz. Taken together, these results provide strong constraints for models of Galactic dust in diffuse gas

    Microservices and Machine Learning Algorithms for Adaptive Green Buildings

    In recent years, the use of services for Open Systems development has consolidated and strengthened. Advances in the Service Science and Engineering (SSE) community, promoted by the reinforcement of Web Services and Semantic Web technologies and the presence of new Cloud computing techniques, such as the proliferation of microservices solutions, have allowed software architects to experiment and develop new ways of building open and adaptable computer systems at runtime. Home automation, intelligent buildings, robotics, graphical user interfaces are some of the social atmosphere environments suitable in which to apply certain innovative trends. This paper presents a schema for the adaptation of Dynamic Computer Systems (DCS) using interdisciplinary techniques on model-driven engineering, service engineering and soft computing. The proposal manages an orchestrated microservices schema for adapting component-based software architectural systems at runtime. This schema has been developed as a three-layer adaptive transformation process that is supported on a rule-based decision-making service implemented by means of Machine Learning (ML) algorithms. The experimental development was implemented in the Solar Energy Research Center (CIESOL) applying the proposed microservices schema for adapting home architectural atmosphere systems on Green Buildings

    How Effective Are Mindfulness-Based Interventions for Reducing Stress and Weight? A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

    Stress contributes to the development and maintenance of obesity. Mindfulness-based therapies are being used to reduce stress and promote weight reduction and maintenance. This study aimed to determine the efficacy of mindfulness-based interventions for stress and weight reduction in the short, medium, and long term. Searches on PsycINFO, Medline, CINAHL, Scopus, WOS, and Science Direct were conducted until March 2021. Intervention studies with a sample of adults were included; these evaluated a mindfulness-based intervention and used stress and weight or body mass index as outcome variables. These criteria were met by 13 articles. A meta-analysis of 8 of the 13 articles was performed with a random-effects or fixed-effects model, depending on the level of heterogeneity between studies. Mindfulness-based interventions had a small effect on stress reduction over a 3-month period: effect size (standardized mean difference) = −0.29 (95% CI: −0.49, −0.10). However, no significant evidence was found for stress reduction from 3 months onwards, nor for weight or body mass index reduction in any period. Mindfulness-based interventions are effective in reducing stress in the short term, but not in the medium or long term, nor are they effective for weight or body mass index.
