Dissociative Electron Attachment Cross Sections for H2 and D2

Get PDF
New measurements of the absolute cross sections for dissociative electron attachment (DEA) in molecular hydrogen and deuterium are presented which resolve previous ambiguities and provide a test bed for theory. The experimental methodology is based upon a momentum imaging time-of-flight spectrometer that allowed us to eliminate any contributions due to electronically excited metastable neutrals and ultraviolet light while ensuring detection of all the ions. The isotope effect in the DEA process in the two molecules is found to be considerably larger than previously observed. More importantly, it is found to manifest in the polar dissociation process (also known as ion pair production) as well

Interactive Learning Method of Cultural Heritage for Europeanization in the Danube Region – ILMECH

Get PDF
The project will contribute to raising awareness of tangible (TCH) and intangible (ICH) cultural heritage of Danube Region (DR) by providing modern and innovative tools for teaching its essence to youth. In the DR there is a lack of a common European identity due to the historical, economic, and political backgrounds. The integration process has been slowed down due to the political instability and different development among the countries of the area. Youth, that will become the future European citizens and the real prospective for the development of their countries, are not much influenced by the memories remaining of the turbulent past of DR. Therefore, they are a sensible target to achieve an Europeanization of this area. To reach this aim, the project will introduce a common and interactive didactic method for the whole DR that teaches to high school pupils the proper value of their TCH and ICH in order to achieve an Europeanization prospective. This method includes “From practice to the theory” approach, “Do it yourself” experience and integration of innovative augmented reality ICT tools (3D reconstruction, educational videos and games). Moreover, the project will provide a web platform in which e-learning courses, free documentation regarding the didactic method developed, ICT tools database and guidelines on their use will be available. Dissemination action among schools will be carried out in order to promote the use of the proposed materials

The general objective of the project is to create a common database as decision support tool based on a long-term approach. Based on the crucial past experience, it will help establish ecological corridors as an excellent example of sustainable future management

Vibrational temperature of the adlayer in "hot atom" reaction mechanism

Get PDF
Hot-atoms reactions mechanisms bring about reaction rates which are several orders of magnitude higher than those expected in the case of ad-atoms which have thermalized with the surface. This paper addresses the issue of a possible thermodynamic characterization of the adlayer under reactive conditions and at the steady state. In turn, this implies to tackle the question of determining the temperature of the ad-atoms. This is done by means of a nonequilibrium statistical thermodynamic approach, by exploiting a suitable definition of the entropy. The interplay between reaction rate, vibrational temperature of the ad-atoms and adsorbed quantities is highlighted. It is shown that the vibrational temperature depends on reaction rate logarithmically and exhibits a non-linear scaling on physical quantities linked to the energetics of the reaction, namely the adsorption energy and the binding energy of the molecule. The present modeling is also discussed in connection with response equations of nonequilibrium thermodynamics.Comment: 29 pages, 8 figure

Dynamic fuel retention in tokamak wall materials: An in situ laboratory study of deuterium release from polycrystalline tungsten at room temperature

Get PDF
International audienceRetention of deuterium ion implanted in polycrystalline tungsten samples is studied in situ in an ultra-high vacuum apparatus equipped with a low-flux ion source and a high sensitivity thermo-desorption setup. Retention as a function of ion fluence was measured in the 10^17 -10^21 D+/m^2 range. By combining this new fluence range with the literature in situ experimental data, we evidence the existence of a retention = fluence^ 0.645±0.025 relationship which describes deuterium retention behavior on polycrystalline tungsten on 8 orders of magnitude of fluence. Evolution of deuterium retention as a function of the sample storage time in vacuum at room temperature was followed. A loss of 50% of the retained deuterium is observed when the storage time is increased from 2 h to 135 h. The role of the surface and of natural bulk defects on the deuterium retention/release in polycrystalline tungsten is discussed in light of the behavior of the single desorption peak obtained with Temperature Programmed Desorption

In October 2002 Slovenian veterinary administration confiscated 312 dogs from one private animal collection. Of them 287 were able to be transfered in a provisional shelter Lahovo. We studied dog’s behaviour, prospects for socialization and rehoming, and monitored their health status. The most common behaviour characteristic in Lahovo was fearfulness, which was observed in 59.6% of dogs. 40.7% of dogs needed veterinary care, flea infestation was 100%. During the month of their stay at Lahovo 185 dogs were transferred to certified shelters in Slovenia, Austria and Germany. 99 dogs were rehomed from Lahovo to Slovene adopters. 63.3% of these dogs were fearful immediately after the adoption and 30% were still fearful seven months later. Other common behaviour problems were eating anomalies in 65.2% and sleeping disorders in 18.8% of dogs. In addition to flea infestation, the most common health problems immediately after adoption were digestive problems in 51.1%, dental problems in 51.1% and ear infection in 50% of dogs. After seven months of individual handling of the dogs their behaviour disorders and health problems reduced or disappeared.V oktobru 2002 je Veterinarska uprava republike Slovenije odvzela 312 psov iz nelegalnega zbirališča.
