This paper is presented in the form of an equity report, aiming to evaluate Caterpillar Inc. per share value, comparing its market value with its fair value. This manuscript presents investors with two valuation methodologies – Market Multiples and the Adjusted Present Value – that define a target price range for Caterpillar’s stocks. The first model compares Caterpillar accountings with its major competitors’ data and in the second model a 10-year forecast valuation was built. Based on the referred methods and supported on the analysis of the firm’s performance and future outlook a sell investment recommendation was made by the author

What type of incentives earned by CEO´s of US Banks have higher impact on banking performance?

During the last years there has been a growing interest around this topic, mainly due to its impact in generating the Global Financial Crisis. The aim of the presente Dissertation is to determine which senior executive incentives have higher impact in the Banking Sector of the U.S.A., acknowledging the resources allocated by the banques to each type of remuneration, contextualizing them with regards to the total anual compensation plan for each CEO present in the sample. Seeking a practical approach, this thesis estimates the models that better fit the sample, provided its main characteristics. The results obtained point to interesting conclusions, which are representative of the north-american Banking Industry; using a sample of the 62 biggest U.S. Banks & Investment Banks, it combines about 89% of the total market capo f the Industry. The presente academic study looks into executive compensation schemes to observe which variableshave greater impact on Net Income Before Taxes. The results of the tests direct the argumentation used quite clearly, elaborating on the incentives given to CEO´s that more significantly impact the profits of north-american banks

Redundant VoD Streaming Service in a Private Cloud: Availability Modeling and Sensitivity Analysis

For several years cloud computing has been generating considerable debate and interest within IT corporations. Since cloud computing environments provide storage and processing systems that are adaptable, efficient, and straightforward, thereby enabling rapid infrastructure modifications to be made according to constantly varying workloads, organizations of every size and type are migrating to web-based cloud supported solutions. Due to the advantages of the pay-per-use model and scalability factors, current video on demand (VoD) streaming services rely heavily on cloud infrastructures to offer a large variety of multimedia content. Recent well documented failure events in commercial VoD services have demonstrated the fundamental importance of maintaining high availability in cloud computing infrastructures, and hierarchical modeling has proved to be a useful tool for evaluating the availability of complex systems and services. This paper presents an availability model for a video streaming service deployed in a private cloud environment which includes redundancy mechanisms in the infrastructure. Differential sensitivity analysis was applied to identify and rank the critical components of the system with respect to service availability. The results demonstrate that such a modeling strategy combined with differential sensitivity analysis can be an attractive methodology for identifying which components should be supported with redundancy in order to consciously increase system dependability

O artigo registra os minicursos do evento congresso internacional de inovação tecnológica nas ciências da saúde: a sustentabilidade das práticas integrativas a agroecologia, mais especificamente a conferência Alimentação vegetariana e qualidade de vida: mitos e verdades. O minicurso apresentou a alimentação vegetariana  na interação entre à saúde do corpo, à saúde do planeta e à vida dos animais. De Augusta Emerita a Olisipo por Ebora : uma leitura do território a partir da rede viária

A existência de três itinerários principais entre a capital da Lusitania e o porto marítimo d e Olisipo é atestada por evidências arqueológicas e por fontes escritas (literárias e epigráficas) de época romana. Desse conjunto de fontes, o texto conhecido como Itinerário de Antonino assume-se como um dos documentos principais. O objeto de estudo é um desses itinerários, o que faz a ligação de Augusta Emerita a Olisipo por Ebora. A interpretação do Itinerário de Antonino, conjunto de textos que conhecemos através de cópias medievais, é um tema ainda em aberto na atual investigação científica. São várias as propostas relativas à sua natureza e intenção, cronologia e, sobretudo, quanto à correspondência que deve ser feita entre as rotas descritas e a rede viária efetivamente existente no território em época romana. Para tentar ultrapassar essas dificuldades de interpretação, parece relevante entender a natureza topológica do Itinerario de Antonino e procurar compreender a estrutura de dados que apresenta. Neste sentido, faz-se uma revisão da informação disponível para definir, no território, um percurso plausível do itinerário, fundamentado em dados de natureza arqueológica, epigráfica e histórica. A partir da definição de um traçado e de uma faixa alargada em torno da representação convencional do eixo da via, procura entender-se a forma como o itinerário se articula com a ocupação e organização do território. A análise da informação tratada nesta perspetiva conduz à elaboração de uma proposta de interpretação da sequência de indicações miliárias para esta rota no Itinerário de Antonino: defende-se a tese que os numerais expressos nessas sequências correspondem às distâncias entre estações viárias, num esquema de contagem relativo a cada território administrativo que atravessa. Dito de outra forma, que as indicações miliárias se originam na sede de cada unidade territorial, irradiando desse caput uiae, nas diferentes direções das vias, até ao encontro do território da cidade contígua.The existence of three main itineraries between the capital of Lusitania and the maritime harbour of Olisipo is attested to by archaeological evidence and by written, literary and epigraphic sources from the Roman period. Among this group of written sources, the text known as the Antonine Itinerary is the main document. The object of study is one of these itineraries, connecting Augusta Emerita to Olisipo through Ebora. The interpretation of the Antonine Itinerary, a group of texts known through its medieval copies, is still open to debate in current scientific research. There are several views regarding its nature and purpose, chronology and, especially, regarding the correspondence between the itineraries descriptions and the road network, which indeed existed in the territory during the Roman period. In order to overcome these difficulties of interpretation, it seems relevant to understand the topological nature of the Antonine Itinerary and seek to understand the data structure that it presents. Therefore, this thesis revises current available information, in order to define, within the territory, a plausible route, relying on archaeological, epigraphic and historical data. Starting with the definition of a route and of a wide band encircling the conventional representation of it’s axis, it seeks to understand the manner in which the itinerary is articulated with the occupation and organisation of the territory. The analysis of the information thus analysed culminated in a proposal of interpretation of the sequence of mile indications for this path in the Antonine Itinerary: it defends the thesis that the numerals expressed in these sequences correspond to distances between stations, in a counting scheme limited to boundaries of administrative territory within the route. In other words, it defends that the mile indications have their origin in the capital of each territorial unit, irradiating from this caput uiae in the different directions of the roads until they reached the territory of the adjoining city

As relações de gênero no trabalho e na organização social e política das mulheres marisqueiras da Ribeira na Paraíba

Ele tem como objetivo analisar as relações de gênero no âmbito do trabalho e da organização social e política das marisqueiras da comunidade Ribeira, na Paraíba. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, cujo método escolhido para entrevistas foi o da História Oral, uma vez que a análise recai sobre as narrativas das mulheres marisqueiras. A técnica utilizada foi a análise temática e as categorias foram: gênero, identidade, trabalho e organização social e política. Na Ribeira, vi que a catação de mariscos constitui-se em uma atividade exercida, predominantemente, por mulheres, sendo a pesca de rede, majoritariamente, por homens, os quais nos últimos anos têm se inserido em atividades fora dessa cadeia produtiva sob a justificativa de considerar a mariscagem um trabalho muito pesado e sem lucratividade. Noto que a mariscagem é uma prática que tem gerado entre as marisqueiras sentimentos dicotômicos de  divertição e/ou de sacrifício, traduzidos pelo prazer obtido através da comercialização e pelo martírio provocado pela exaustão. Nesse contexto, a concepção da ajuda ainda se faz presente, dificultando em alguns casos o reconhecimento da mariscagem como atividade laboral de pesca e, portanto, como trabalho. Das mulheres entrevistadas, seis consideram que o marido é a pessoa que trabalha no âmbito da casa e quatro consideram a atividade de catação de mariscos como trabalho. Esse entendimento também tem impactado a efetivação do registro profissional que, por sua vez, tem se ampliado entre as mulheres em virtude da presença de ações de políticas públicas de economia solidária realizada no local. Diante disso, ressalto a importância de tais ações para a valorização do trabalho das marisqueiras, para conscientização dos diretos sociais da categoria e para o exercício de formas de empoderamento.Abstract : The current investigative research address gender matters in handpicking fishing. It aims at analyzing gender relations related to labor and political and social organization with the shellfish picking women of Ribeira community, in Paraíba. It is a qualitative research, which uses Oral History for the interviews, since the analysis draws on the women s narratives. The used technique for the analysis was the thematic and the categories were: gender, identity, labor, and social and political organization. In Ribeira, I saw that women predominantly carry out the handpicking of shellfish, on the other hand fishing is carried out by men, whom have also sought other work-related activities outside this field over the past few years since they have considered handpicking shellfish a very hardworking activity and profitless. I also observed that shellfish picking is a practice that has rendered dichotomy in feelings of  funniness and/or sacrifice, which are translated in the pleasure of being able to commercialize their products and by the suffering caused by the exhausting physical task, respectively. Within this context, the notion of help makes itself present making it difficult for the women to acknowledge the shellfish handpicking as a labor activity in the fishing business and therefore as labor. Of the interviewed women, six consider the husband as the working family member in the house and only four consider the shellfish handpicking as labor. Such understanding has impact on the increase of professional registering of these women alongside the public policies regarding solidary economy in the region. Thus, I highlight the relevance of such actions in order to value women s labor, to raise awareness for social rights and to exercise empowering actions
