    Get PDF
The photon polarization in bsγb \to s \gamma transitions is measured for the first time in radiative b-baryon decays exploiting the unique spin structure of ΛbΛγ\Lambda_b \to \Lambda \gamma decays. A data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6  fb16\;fb^{-1} collected by the LHCb experiment in pppp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13  TeV13\;TeV is used. The photon polarization is measured to be αγ=0.820.260.13+0.17+0.04\alpha_{\gamma}= 0.82^{\,+\,0.17\,+\,0.04}_{\,-\,0.26\,-\,0.13}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This result is in agreement with the Standard Model prediction and previous measurements in b-meson decays. Charge-parity breaking effects are studied for the first time in this observable and found to be consistent with CPCP symmetry.Comment: All figures and tables, along with machine-readable versions and any supplementary material and additional information, are available at https://cern.ch/lhcbproject/Publications/p/LHCb-PAPER-2021-030.html (LHCb public pages

    Get PDF
The first full angular analysis and an updated measurement of the decay-rate CPCP asymmetry of the D0π+πμ+μD^0 \to \pi^+\pi^-\mu^+\mu^- and D0K+Kμ+μD^0 \to K^+K^-\mu^+\mu^- decays are reported. The analysis uses proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb1^{-1}. The full set of CPCP-averaged angular observables and their CPCP asymmetries are measured as a function of the dimuon invariant mass. The results are consistent with expectations from the standard model and with CPCP symmetry.Comment: All figures and tables, along with any supplementary material and additional information, are available at https://cern.ch/lhcbproject/Publications/p/LHCb-PAPER-2021-035.html (LHCb public pages

Tests of lepton universality in B0KS0+B^0\to K^0_S \ell^+ \ell^- and B+K++B^+\to K^{*+} \ell^+ \ell^- decays where \ell is either an electron or a muon are presented. The differential branching fractions of B0KS0e+eB^0\to K^0_S e^+ e^- and B+K+e+eB^+\to K^{*+} e^+ e^- decays are measured in intervals of the dilepton invariant mass squared. The measurements are performed using proton-proton collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9fb19\, \mathrm{fb}^{-1}. The results are consistent with the Standard Model and previous tests of lepton universality in related decay modes. The first observation of B0KS0e+eB^0 \to K^0_S e^+ e^- and B+K+e+eB^+ \to K^{*+} e^+ e^- decays is reported

Abstract: A flavour-tagged time-dependent angular analysis of Bs0→J/ψϕ decays is presented where the J/ψ meson is reconstructed through its decay to an e+e- pair. The analysis uses a sample of pp collision data recorded with the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8\,Te V, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3\,fb-1. The CP-violating phase and lifetime parameters of the Bs0 system are measured to be ϕs=0.00±0.28±0.07\,rad, ΔΓs=0.115±0.045±0.011\,ps-1 and Γs=0.608±0.018±0.012\,ps-1 where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This is the first time that CP-violating parameters are measured in the Bs0→J/ψϕ decay with an e+e- pair in the final state. The results are consistent with previous measurements in other channels and with the Standard Model predictions

    A measurement of mixing and C P violation in neutral charm mesons is performed using data reconstructed in proton-proton collisions collected by the LHCb experiment from 2016 to 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4     fb − 1 . A total of 30.6 million D 0 → K 0 S π + π − decays are analyzed using a method optimized for the measurement of the mass difference between neutral charm-meson eigenstates. Allowing for C P violation in mixing and in the interference between mixing and decay, the mass and decay-width differences are measured to be x C P = [ 3.97 ± 0.46 ( stat ) ± 0.29 ( syst ) ] × 1 0 − 3 and y C P = [ 4.59 ± 1.20 ( stat ) ± 0.85 ( syst ) ] × 1 0 − 3 , respectively. The C P -violating parameters are measured as Δ x = [ − 0.27 ± 0.18 ( stat ) ± 0.01 ( syst ) ] × 1 0 − 3 and Δ y = [ 0.20 ± 0.36 ( stat ) ± 0.13 ( syst ) ] × 1 0 − 3 . This is the first observation of a nonzero mass difference in the D 0 meson system, with a significance exceeding seven standard deviations. The data are consistent with C P symmetry and improve existing constraints on the associated parameters

Branching Fraction Measurements of the Rare B-s(0) -> phi mu(+)mu(-) and B-s(0)-> f(2)' (1525)mu(+)mu(-) Decays

The branching fraction of the rare B 0 s → ϕ μ + μ − decay is measured using data collected by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 1, 2, and 6     fb − 1 , respectively. The branching fraction is reported in intervals of q 2 , the square of the dimuon invariant mass. In the q 2 region between 1.1 and 6.0     GeV 2 / c 4 , the measurement is found to lie 3.6 standard deviations below a standard model prediction based on a combination of light cone sum rule and lattice QCD calculations. In addition, the first observation of the rare B 0 s → f ′ 2 ( 1525 ) μ + μ − decay is reported with a statistical significance of 9 standard deviations and its branching fraction is determined

Abstract: A search for the doubly charmed baryon Ωcc+ with the decay mode Ωcc+ → Ξc+K−π+ is performed using proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected by the LHCb experiment from 2016 to 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb−1. No significant signal is observed within the invariant mass range of 3.6 to 4.0GeV/c2. Upper limits are set on the ratio R of the production cross-section times the total branching fraction of the Ωcc+ → Ξc+K−π+ decay with respect to the Ξcc++→Λc+K−π+π+ decay. Upper limits at 95% credibility level for R in the range 0.005 to 0.11 are obtained for different hypotheses on the Ωcc+ mass and lifetime in the rapidity range from 2.0 to 4.5 and transverse momentum range from 4 to 15 GeV/c

    Observation of a Λ b 0 − Λ ¯ b 0 production asymmetry in proton-proton collisions at s = 7 and 8 TeV

    Get PDF
Abstract: This article presents differential measurements of the asymmetry between Λb0 and Λ¯b0 baryon production rates in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of s = 7 and 8 TeV collected with the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−1. The Λb0 baryons are reconstructed through the inclusive semileptonic decay Λb0 → Λc+μ−ν¯μX. The production asymmetry is measured both in intervals of rapidity in the range 2.15 < y < 4.10 and transverse momentum in 2 < pT< 27 GeV/c. The results are found to be incompatible with symmetric production with a significance of 5.8 standard deviations for both s = 7 and 8 TeV data, assuming no CP violation in the decay. There is evidence for a trend as a function of rapidity with a significance of 4 standard deviations. Comparisons to predictions from hadronisation models in Pythia and heavy-quark recombination are provided. This result constitutes the first observation of a particle-antiparticle asymmetry in b-hadron production at LHC energies
