Espaços públicos e vida urbana: uma leitura do projeto Cidade Pedra Branca

O projeto Cidade Pedra Branca está sendo implantado em Palhoça, região metropolitana de Florianópolis, sul do Brasil, inicialmente alavancado pela instalação do Campus da UNISUL (Universidade do Sul de Santa Catarina), em 1997. O que seria uma urbanização nos moldes do zoneamento monofuncional transformou-se, a partir de 2005, em um empreendimento alinhado às premissas do Novo Urbanismo. O presente trabalho visa identificar e avaliar a rede de espaços públicos configurada por este projeto, resgatando seu processo histórico e realizando análise morfológica para identificar potencialidades e limitações da proposta no que se refere à criação de um ambiente genuinamente urbano. O que se observa é que, a exemplo de outras propostas efetivamente implementadas por esta corrente, o projeto acaba se estruturando de modo introvertido e autocontido, se firmando mais em termos locais do que em uma efetiva integração com o todo da estrutura urbana em que está inserido.The Pedra Branca project is being implemented in Palhoça, county of the Florianopolis metropolitan region, in southern Brazil. Its beginning was boosted by the installation of UNISUL Campus (University of Southern Santa Catarina) in that region in 1996. What would be an urbanization along the lines of monofunctional zoning, became, from 2005, in a urban development aligned with the assumptions of the New Urbanism. This paper identifies and evaluates the network of public spaces configured for this project, restoring its historic process and performing morphological analysis to identify the strengths and limitations of the proposal regarding the creation of a genuine urban environment. What is observed is that, like other proposals effectively implemented by this current, the project ends up being structured so introverted and self-contained, establishing urban relations more in local terms than inan effective integration with the entire urban structure context.Peer Reviewe

Trade liberalization and the evolution of skill earnings differentials in Brazil

Skilled labor earnings differentials decreased during the trade liberalization implemented in Brazil from 1988 to 1995. This paper investigates the role of trade liberalization in explaining these relative earnings movements. We perform several independent empirical exercises that check the traditional trade transmission mechanism, using disaggregated data on tariffs, prices, earnings, employment and skill intensity. We find that: i) employment shifted from skilled to unskilled intensive sectors, and each sector increased its relative share of skilled labor; ii) relative prices fell in skill intensive sectors; iii) tari¤ changes across sectors were not related to skill intensities, but the pass-through from tariffs to prices was larger in skill intensive sectors; iv) the decline in skilled earnings differentials mandated by the price variation predicted by trade was even larger than the observed one. The results are compatible with trade liberalization accounting for the observed relative earnings changes in Brazil. They also highlight the importance of considering the effects of differentiated pass-through from tariffs to prices.

Effectiveness of Aloe Vera Gel Vs Lavender Oil on Episiotomy Wound among Postnatal Mothers in a Selected Hospital, Mangalore

Introduction: The mother undergoing episiotomy has a greater blood loss in conjunction with deliveryand there is a risk of improper wound healing and increased pain during early puerperium. The objectiveof the study was to determine and compare the effect of aloe vera gel and lavender oil on healing ofepisiotomy wound and pain among postnatal mothers.Methods: An evaluative approach with pre- test post- test design (quasi experimental) was used for thisstudy. Forty mothers who had an episiotomy wound were selected by non-probability purposive samplingtechnique (twenty mothers in the aloe vera gel group and twenty mothers in lavender oil group).Eachgroup received treatment for two days . REEDA scale, anduniversal pain assessment tool were used.Results: The computed‘t’ value of wound healing (0.623) was lesser than table value (1.96) (t38=1.96,p<0.05) and‘t’ value of pain (2.307) was greater than the table value (1.96) (t38=1.96, p<0.05). Hence itshows aloe vera gel and lavender oil were equally effective in wound healing, whereas aloe vera gel wasfound to be most effective in reducing pain as the mean post test pain score in aloe vera gel (3.8±1.02)was lower than mean post test pain score in lavender oil group (4.55±0.97).Conclusion: The findings of the study indicated that aloe vera gel is effective in reducing episiotomy woundpain than lavender oil among postnatal mothers

Successful isolation and cultivation of Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii strains isolated from finished drinking water samples

This work presents the successful establishment of Cylindrospermosis raciborskii cultures isolated from water samples collected at the exit point of Water Treatment Plant (WTP). An intense bloom dominated by filamentous cyanobacteria (Aphanizomenon spp., Planktothrix spp., Cylindrospermosis raciborskii, Anabaena spp.) occurred in the summer of 2015 in Roxo reservoir (south Portugal). Several cyanotoxins (microcystins, saxitoxins, cylindrospermopsin) were detected in raw and treated water, although at levels below the corresponding regulatory and/or guideline values. Nevertheless, this bloom caused intense unpleasant odour and taste in the water supplied to the populations and cyanobacterial cells (up to 1000 cells.mL-1) were detected in finished water samples collected at the exit point of WTP. Treated water samples collected at the WTP and at the city water deposit were inoculated in Z8 culture medium and cyanobacterial growth was followed by optical microscopy. After 30 days, cyanobacterial growth was observed showing resistance to the treatment processes and maintenance of reprodution capacity. Interestingly, morphometric and molecular analysis revealed the presence of C. raciborskii. Three isolates of this species were obtained and none were cylindrospermopsin- or microcystins-producers, as confirmed by Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assays (ELISA) and by amplification of genes (PS, PKS, mcyA-cd, mcyAB, mcyB) involved in those cyanotoxin synthesis. However, the ELISA for saxitoxins was positive for the 3 isolates and confirmation of this toxin production is in progress. To our knowledge, this is the first report on the establishment of successful cultures of C. raciborskii that survived to conventional water treatment processes.N/

CONTRIBUIÇÃO PARA O CONHECIMENTO DO PERFIL INFORMACIONAL DO ESTUDANTE DO ENSINO SUPERIOR

Tendo como objetivo contribuir para o conhecimento do perfil informacional do estudante, à entrada no ensino superior, foi realizado o presente estudo. Este, um estudo de caso, efetuado no Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco (IPCB) foi realizado mediante a aplicação de um inquérito por questionário, distribuído aos estudantes que ingressaram, no ano letivo 2010/2011, nos cursos de formação inicial (licenciatura) do IPCB, independentemente da forma de acesso ao ensino superior. Os dados foram tratados estatisticamente com recursos ao programa SPSS.De entre os resultados obtidos destacam-se os seguintes: a maioria dos estudantes pertence ao sexo feminino, reconhece a biblioteca enquanto tal, frequentou ao longo do seu percurso escolar a biblioteca escolar e/ou municipal, de um modo geral possui computador portátil, é utilizador assíduo das redes sociais, sobretudo H5 e Facebook, utiliza a Internet para realização dos seus trabalhos escolares, realiza pesquisas recorrendo ao Google e à Wikipédia, acredita não ter necessidade de formação para utilizar bem a biblioteca e refere o acesso à Internet como o serviço mais apreciado. O conhecimento obtido poderá contribuir para melhorar as competências em literacia da informação dos estudantes, através da lecionação de formação adequada; permitirá melhorar a gestão em termos de política de aquisições, organização da informação e seleção de conteúdos; considerando os resultados relativamente à utilização das redes sociais, estas poderão funcionar como ferramenta de comunicação privilegiada entre estes utilizadores e a biblioteca. Em suma poderá contribuir para melhorar, de forma substancial, o nível de utilização da biblioteca por parte dos utilizadores

Aprofundando saberes na educação de jovens e adultos: exercício de mediação intercultural

I Congresso Internacional América Latina e Interculturalidade: América Latina e Caribe: cenários linguístico-culturais contemporâneos, 07, 08 e 09 de novembro de 2013 - UNILAO presente texto apresenta a proposta de mediação intercultural exercitada através do Curso: Aprofundando saberes na Educação de Jovens e Adultos, coordenado pelo Grupo de pesquisa vinculado ao CNPq: Saberes Escolares e Práticas Pedagógicas para a EJA(Seppeja/UFS) cujas atividades iniciais datam de 2011 e se consolidam a cada dia tendo como objetivo maior a construção de um perfil curricular com ênfase na pedagogia intercultural. Esta intervenção pedagógica baseia­se no crédito atribuído à possibilidade de rompimento de uma visão fragmentada entre os saberes para a consecução do desenvolvimento cognitivo, social e afetivo dos seus envolvidos. É possível afirmar que a participação neste projeto já confere o aprofundamento de saberes de seus participantes a partir do exercício da competência intercultural. Em encontros diários, em sala de aula, alunos e regentes têm a oportunidade de promover o diálogo intercultural a partir da interrelação entre suas heranças culturais associadas à (re)significação de saberes e tendo como foco o alcance de letramentos múltiplos. Os resultados já alcançados indicam impactos significativos da construção de um perfil curricular inovador para EJA, bem como para a formação do docente a atuar neste campo pedagógico específico
