Areas of natural occurrence of melipona scutellaris Latreille, 1811(Hymenoptera: Apidae) in the state of Bahia, Brazil.
The bee Melipona scutellaris is considered the reared meliponine species with the largest distribution in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil, with records from the state of Rio Grande do Norte down to the state of Bahia. Considering the importance of this species in the generation of income for family agriculture and in the preservation of areas with natural vegetation, this study aimed at providing knowledge on the distribution of natural colonies of M. scutellaris in the state of Bahia. Literature information, interviews with stinglessbee beekeepers, and expeditions were conducted to confirm the natural occurrence of the species. A total of 102 municipalities showed records for M. scutellaris, whose occurrence was observed in areas ranging from sea level up to 1,200-meter height. The occurrence of this species in the state of Bahia is considered to be restricted to municipalities on the coastal area and the Chapada Diamantina with its rainforests. Geographic coordinates, elevation, climate and vegetation data were obtained, which allowed a map to be prepared for the area of occurrence in order to support conservation and management policies for the species
Quantum non-demolition (QND) modulation of quantum interference
We propose an experiment where quantum interference between two different
paths is modulated by means of a QND measurement on one or both the arm of the
interferometer. The QND measurement is achieved in a Kerr cell. We illustrate a

Domain wall roughening in dipolar films in the presence of disorder
We derive a low-energy Hamiltonian for the elastic energy of a N\'eel domain
wall in a thin film with in-plane magnetization, where we consider the
contribution of the long-range dipolar interaction beyond the quadratic
approximation. We show that such a Hamiltonian is analogous to the Hamiltonian
of a one-dimensional polaron in an external random potential. We use a replica
variational method to compute the roughening exponent of the domain wall for

From cosmic deceleration to acceleration: new constraints from SN Ia and BAO/CMB
We use type Ia supernovae (SN Ia) data in combination with recent baryonic
acoustic oscillations (BAO) and cosmic microwave background (CMB) observations
to constrain a kink-like parametrization of the deceleration parameter ().
This -parametrization can be written in terms of the initial () and
present () values of the deceleration parameter, the redshift of the
cosmic transition from deceleration to acceleration () and the redshift
width of such transition (). By assuming a flat space geometry,
and adopting a likelihood approach to deal with the SN Ia data we obtain, at
the 68% confidence level (C.L.), that: ,
and when we combine
BAO/CMB observations with SN Ia data processed with the MLCS2k2 light-curve
fitter. When in this combination we use the SALT2 fitter we get instead, at the
same C.L.: , and
. Our results indicate, with a quite general and
model independent approach, that MLCS2k2 favors Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati-like
cosmological models, while SALT2 favors CDM-like ones. Progress in
determining the transition redshift and/or the present value of the
deceleration parameter depends crucially on solving the issue of the difference

Taxonomic Catalog of the Brazilian Fauna: order Trichoptera (Insecta), diversity and distribution
Caddisflies are a highly diverse group of aquatic insects, particularly in the Neotropical region where there is a high number of endemic taxa. Based on taxonomic contributions published until August 2019, a total of 796 caddisfly species have been recorded from Brazil. Taxonomic data about Brazilian caddisflies are currently open access at the “Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil” website (CTFB), an on-line database with taxonomic information on the animal species occurring in Brazil. The order Trichoptera at CTFB includes a catalog of species recorded for the country, with synonymic lists, distribution throughout six biomes, 12 hydrographic regions, and 27 political states (including Federal District) from Brazil. The database is constantly updated to include newly published data. In this study, we reviewed the taxonomic effort on Brazilian caddisflies based on data currently in CTFB database. The accumulation curve of species described or recorded from the country, by year, shows a strong upward trend in last 25 years, indicating that it is possible that there are many more species to be described. Based on presence/absence of caddisfly species at three geographic levels (biomes, hydrographic regions, and states), second order Jackknife estimated at least 1,586 species occurring in Brazil (with hydrographic regions as unities), indicating we currently know about 50% of the Brazilian caddisfly fauna. Species distribution by Brazilian biomes reveals that the Atlantic Forest is the most diverse, with 490 species (298 endemic), followed by the Amazon Forest, with 255 species (101 endemic). Even though these numbers may be biased because there has been more intense collecting in these two biomes, the percentage of endemic caddisfly species in the Atlantic Forest is remarkable. Considering the distribution throughout hydrographic regions, clustering analyses (UPGMA) based on incidence data reveals two groups: northwestern basins and southeastern. Although these groups have weak bootstrap support and low similarity in species composition, this division of Brazilian caddisfly fauna could be related to Amazon-Atlantic Forest disjunction, with the South American dry diagonal acting as a potential barrier throughout evolutionary time
Stationary quantum statistics of a non-Markovian atom laser
We present a steady state analysis of a quantum-mechanical model of an atom
laser. A single-mode atomic trap coupled to a continuum of external modes is
driven by a saturable pumping mechanism. In the dilute flux regime, where
atom-atom interactions are negligible in the output, we have been able to solve
this model without making the Born-Markov approximation. The more exact
treatment has a different effective damping rate and occupation of the lasing
mode, as well as a shifted frequency and linewidth of the output. We examine
gravitational damping numerically, finding linewidths and frequency shifts for
a range of pumping rates. We treat mean field damping analytically, finding a
memory function for the Thomas-Fermi regime. The occupation and linewidth are
found to have a nonlinear scaling behavior which has implications for the

Coreceptor Usage by HIV-1 and HIV-2 Primary Isolates: The Relevance of CCR8 Chemokine Receptor as an Alternative Coreceptor
The human immunodeficiency virus replication cycle begins by sequential interactions between viral envelope glycoproteins with CD4 molecule and a member of the seven-transmembrane, G-protein-coupled, receptors' family (coreceptor). In this report we focused on the contribution of CCR8 as alternative coreceptor for HIV-1 and HIV-2 isolates. We found that this coreceptor was efficiently used not only by HIV-2 but particularly by HIV-1 isolates. We
demonstrate that CXCR4 usage, either alone or together with CCR5 and/or CCR8, was more frequently observed in HIV-1 than in HIV-2 isolates. Directly related to this is the finding that the non-usage of CXCR4 is
significantly more common in HIV-2 isolates; both features could be associated with the slower disease progression generally observed in HIV-2 infected patients.
The ability of some viral isolates to use alternative coreceptors besides CCR5 and CXCR4 could further impact on the efficacy of entry inhibitor therapy and possibly also in HIV pathogenesis
