Stringy Instantons and Cascading Quivers
D-brane instantons can perturb the quantum field theories on space-time
filling D-branes by interesting operators. In some cases, these D-brane
instantons are novel "stringy" effects (not interpretable directly as instanton
effects in the low-energy quantum field theory), while in others the D-brane
instantons can be directly interpreted as field theory effects. In this note,
we describe a situation where both perspectives are available, by studying
stringy instantons in quivers which arise at simple Calabi-Yau singularities.
We show that a stringy instanton which wraps an unoccupied node of the quiver,
and gives rise to a non-perturbative mass in the space-time field theory, can
be reinterpreted as a conventional gauge theory effect by going up in an
appropriate renormalization group cascade. Interestingly, in the cascade, the
contribution of the stringy instanton does not come from gauge theory

Physical Activity Levels and health aspects in children from 4 to 6 years old of Granada
El sedentarismo, la inactividad física, así como el sobrepeso y obesidad son los principales problemas de salud física y mental de la población infantil y juvenil, al igual que de adultos. Este tipo de problemática puede deberse principalmente a la alimentación y la cantidad de actividad física realizada desde edades muy tempranas. Hoy en día, los niños y niñas desde muy pequeños se alimentan a diario de comida basura, además de dulces ultra procesados, añadiéndole a esto, la no realización de actividad física y el sedentarismo debido principalmente a las nuevas tecnologías, creando así malos hábitos. El objetivo central de este estudio es relacionar y analizar la Adherencia a la Dieta Mediterránea y el nivel de actividad física de niños de edades comprendidas entre 4 y 6 años, enfocándose para ello en las diferencias existentes entre el género y la edad. Para ello, se ha utilizado un estudio de corte transversal y tipo descriptivo, contando con una muestra de 243 participantes de la provincia de Granada, quienes completaron el test KIDMED. Como resultados se obtuvo que, son los chicos quienes realizan mayor cantidad de actividad física, así como mejor adherencia a la Dieta Mediterránea. Además, cabe destacar que 7 de cada 10 de los participantes necesitan mejorar o poseen una dieta de baja calidad.A sedentary behaviour, physical inactivity, as well as overweight and obesity are the main physical and mental health problems of children and young people and adults. These problems may be due principally to diet and physical activity from a very early age. Today, children from a very early age are fed daily with junk food, as well as ultraprocessed sweets, adding to this, the lack of physical activity and sedentary lifestyles, mainly due to new technologies, thus creating bad habits. The aim of this study is to relate and analyse the adherence to the Mediterranean Diet and the level of physical activity of children aged between 4 and 6 years, focusing on the existing differences between gender and age. A descriptive cross-sectional study was used, with a sample of 243 participants from the city of Granada, completing the KIDMED test. The results showed that boys are the ones who do more physical activity, as well as better adherence to the Mediterranean Diet. In addition, it is worth oting that 7 out of 10 of the participants need to improve or have a poor quality diet
Oncogenic Role of Secreted Engrailed Homeobox 2 (EN2) in Prostate Cancer
Engrailed variant-2 (EN2) has been suggested as a potential diagnostic biomarker; however, its presence and functional role in prostate cancer (PCa) cells is still controversial or unknown. Here, we analyzed 1) the expression/secretion profile of EN2 in five independent samples cohorts from PCa patients and controls (prostate tissues and/or urine) to determine its utility as a PCa biomarker; and 2) the functional role of EN2 in normal (RWPE1) and tumor (LNCaP/22Rv1/PC3) prostate cells to explore its potential value as therapeutic target. EN2 was overexpressed in our two cohorts of PCa tissues compared to control and in tumor cell lines compared with normal-like prostate cells. This profile was corroborated in silico in three independent data sets [The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA)/Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC)/Grasso]. Consistently, urine EN2 levels were elevated and enabled discrimination between PCa and control patients. EN2 treatment increased cell proliferation in LNCaP/22Rv1/PC3 cells, migration in RWPE1/PC3 cells, and PSA secretion in LNCaP cells. These effects were associated, at least in the androgen-sensitive LNCaP cells, with increased AKT and androgen-receptor phosphorylation levels and with modulation of key cancer-associated genes. Consistently, EN2 treatment also regulated androgen-receptor activity (full-length and splicing variants) in androgen-sensitive 22Rv1 cells. Altogether, this study demonstrates the potential utility of EN2 as a non-invasive diagnostic biomarker for PCa and provides novel and valuable information to further investigate its putative utility to develop new therapeutic tools in PCa
Correlated response to selection for litter size environmental variability in rabbits' resilience
[EN] Resilience is the ability of an animal to return soon to its initial productivity after facing diverse environmental challenges. This trait is directly related to animal welfare and it plays a key role in fluctuations of livestock productivity. A divergent selection experiment for environmental variance of litter size has been performed successfully in rabbits over ten generations. The objective of this study was to analyse resilience indicators of stress and disease in the divergent lines of this experiment. The high line showed a lower survival rate at birth than the low line (-4.1%). After correcting by litter size, the difference was -3.2%. Involuntary culling rate was higher in the high than in the low line (+12.4%). Before vaccination against viral haemorrhagic disease or myxomatosis, concentration of lymphocytes, C-reactive protein (CRP), complement C3, serum bilirubin, triglycerides and cholesterol were higher in the high line than in the low line (difference between lines +4.5%, +5.6 mu g/ml, +4.6 mg/ml, +7.9 mmol/l, +0.3 mmol/l and +0.4 mmol/l). Immunological and biochemical responses to the two vaccines were similar. After vaccination, the percentage of lymphocytes and CRP concentration were higher in the low line than in the high one (difference between lines +4.0% and +13.1 mu g/ml). The low line also showed a higher increment in bilirubin and triglycerides than the high line (+14.2 v. +8.7 mmol/l for bilirubin and +0.11 v. +0.01 mmol/l for triglycerides); these results would agree with the protective role of bilirubin and triglycerides against the larger inflammatory response found in this line. In relation to stress, the high line had higher basal concentration of cortisol than the low line (+0.2ng/ml); the difference between lines increased more than threefold after the injection of ACTH 1 to 24, the increase being greater in the high line (+0.9 ng/ml) than in the low line (+0.4 ng/ml). Selection for divergent environmental variability of litter size leads to dams with different culling rate for reproductive causes and different kits' neonatal survival. Finite Theories and the SUSY Flavor Problem
We study a finite SU(5) grand unified model based on the non-Abelian discrete
symmetry A_4. This model leads to the democratic structure of the mass matrices
for the quarks and leptons. In the soft supersymmetry breaking sector, the
scalar trilinear couplings are aligned and the soft scalar masses are

Spanish guidelines for the use of targeted deep sequencing in myelodysplastic syndromes and chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia
The landscape of medical sequencing has rapidly changed with the evolution of next generation sequencing (NGS). These technologies have contributed to the molecular characterization of the myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML), through the identification of recurrent gene mutations, which are present in >80% of patients. These mutations contribute to a better classification and risk stratification of the patients. Currently, clinical laboratories include NGS genomic analyses in their routine clinical practice, in an effort to personalize the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of MDS and CMML. NGS technologies have reduced the cost of large-scale sequencing, but there are additional challenges involving the clinical validation of these technologies, as continuous advances are constantly being made. In this context, it is of major importance to standardize the generation, analysis, clinical interpretation and reporting of NGS data. To that end, the Spanish MDS Group (GESMD) has expanded the present set of guidelines, aiming to establish common quality standards for the adequate implementation of NGS and clinical interpretation of the results, hoping that this effort will ultimately contribute to the benefit of patients with myeloid malignancies
Signatures of Baryon non-conserving Yukawa couplings in a supersymmetric theory
Renormalization effects of large baryon-nonconserving Yukawa couplings
lower the right handed squark masses keeping the left-handed squark masses
virtually untouched at the lowest order. At low energy they enhance the
mass-splitting between left and right handed squarks of the same generation as
well as intergenerational mass splitting among squarks, potentially detectable
in future colliders or in rare decays. The predicted mass of the lightest stop
squark becomes lower than the experimental bound for larger ranges of parameter
space than that of the Baryon-conserving case, hence, further constraining the

Opposite cannabis-cognition associations in psychotic patients depending on family history
The objective of this study is to investigate cognitive performance in a first-episode psychosis sample, when stratifying the interaction by cannabis use and familial or non-familial psychosis. Hierarchical-regression models were used to analyse this association in a sample of 268 first-episode psychosis patients and 237 controls. We found that cannabis use was associated with worse working memory, regardless of family history. However, cannabis use was clearly associated with worse cognitive performance in patients with no family history of psychosis, in cognitive domains including verbal memory, executive function and global cognitive index, whereas cannabis users with a family history of psychosis performed better in these domains. The main finding of the study is that there is an interaction between cannabis use and a family history of psychosis in the areas of verbal memory, executive function and global cognition: that is, cannabis use is associated with a better performance in patients with a family history of psychosis and a worse performance in those with no family history of psychosis. In order to confirm this hypothesis, future research should explore the actual expression of the endocannabinoid system in patients with and without a family history of psychosis
