    Translation and validation of Marathi version of questionnaire for urinary incontinence diagnosis

    Background: Urinary incontinence is a common health problem among women, which affects the quality of life. knowledge about the risk factors of urinary incontinence in this population will help us to take measures to reduce the burden of the condition. Questionnaire for urinary incontinence diagnosis (QUID) helps to distinguish type of incontinence. Methods: It was a community based cross-sectional study involving women living in the rural areas. A total of 25 women were taken for this study to find out reliability and validity of Marathi version of this questionnaire. Data was analysed with statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS) 20.0. Results: The internal consistency (homogeneity) was evaluated by Cronbach’s α coefficient, which was 0.795. validation was obtained from expert panel and the pilot testing showed that the questionnaire is acceptable. Conclusions: QUID Marathi version has been proven a reliable and valid tool for assessing urinary incontinence in women. It can be used as a quick screening tool for urinary incontinence in women of rural population

The branch Rasashastra involves procedures such as; Sodhana, Maranaand Putta, etc. Initially during development phase this branch mainly dealt with Rasa (mercury) and Rasa Dravyas hence termed as “Rasashastra”. The concept of Rasashastra offers enormous advantages towards the maintenance of normal physical and mental status. The drugs used in Rasashastra provide relief from many health ailments therefore this stream has occupied a unique place amongst the different therapeutic modalities of Ayurveda.     Now a days hypertension is most prevailing lifestyle disorder. It is also known as silent killer. Hypertension has been globally acknowledged as most prevalent risk factor for life threatening cardiovascular diseases. Ayurveda is a science of life and oldest medical science known to the mankind practised in India. Since ages Indian population have been benefited by the healing touch of this science. Due to life style of hurry, worry and curry, many lifestyle disorders become household diseases in developing countries and hypertension is one among them.Hypertension is one of such disorders which can be caused by many factors, including increase in the volume of body fluid, resistance of the blood vessels, and other factors that elevate blood pressure. Modern treatment modalities although reduce the blood pressure very effectively but their long term efficacy i.e. target organ damage reduction is not enough. Despite various new drugs the overall percentage of population suffering from hypertension is increasing day by day. The use of herbal medicine is finding more relevance with the recognition that we are facing more challenges in the treatment of some medical conditions such as hypertension.This review is regarding current on medicinal approach to deal with hypertension as well as antihypertensive actions of some herbal medicines and formulations, their therapeutic values in clinical situation and recent approaches to validate and document their antihypertensive efficacies. The central idea behind this review is that if we can demonstrate the value of our science and art of healing even in current lifestyle disorders like hypertension with proper evidence based documentation then it will not only increase faith for Ayurveda among young researchers but also enhance global acceptability of our science as a contemporary science of medicine

    Functional recovery in a rare case of an adult patient with leucodystrophy

    The adulthood leukodystrophy is an uncommon clinical condition. Physiotherapy treatment provided to this referred patient resulted in a significant functional recovery within a short span of time inspite of gross lesion. A 34-year-old male patient diagnosed as a case of leucodystrophy was referred for Physiotherapy after 2 years of initial diagnosis physiotherapy progress consisted of increasing muscle strength, reducing tightness and improving postural stability; also to improve mobility for 5 months. After taking the pre and post assessment values of MAS, FIST, mFRT and FIM, improvement through the post assessment values showed significant functional recovery within 5 months. Significant functional recovery after 2 years of diagnosis of leucodystrophy provides promising scope of physiotherapy in future cases of leucodystrophy

    Detection of Porphyromonas gingivalis and Treponema denticola in chronic and aggressive periodontitis patients: A comparative polymerase chain reaction study

    The detection frequency of Porphyromonas gingivalis and Treponema denticola in chronic periodontitis (CP) and aggressive periodontitis (AgP) is not explored well in Indian population. Aim: The study was undertaken to detect P. gingivalis and T. denticola in CP as well as in AgP patients using polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and to determine the relationship between the frequency of these two microorganisms and the severity of clinical periodontal parameters. Materials and Methods: Subgingival plaque samples were collected from ninety participants (thirty CP patients, thirty AgP patients, and thirty healthy participants) and the aforementioned two microorganisms were detected using PCR. Results: However, when CP and AgP were compared for the detection frequency of two microorganisms, no statistically significant difference was noted. A statistically significant increase in the number of bacteria‑positive sites increased as the score of plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), and clinical attachment level of CP and AgP patients increased. Coexistence of P. gingivalis and T. denticola was frequently observed in deep periodontal pockets. Conclusions: Study findings suggest that P. gingivalis and T. denticola are significantly associated with the severity of periodontal tissue destruction. Statistically significant association exists between clinical periodontal parameters such as PI, GI, periodontal pocket depth (PPD), and clinical attachment loss and presence of both the microorganism

    Comparative Evaluation of Azadirachta indica (Neem) Chip and Soft Tissue Diode Lasers as a Supplement to Phase i Periodontal Therapy in Localized Chronic Moderate Periodontitis: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial

    Introduction. The current trial aimed to assess and compare the efficacy of neem chip and diode laser as a local drug delivery (LDD) agent as a supplement to phase I periodontal therapy in treatment of localized chronic moderate periodontitis. Materials and Methodology. Fourteen systemically healthy participants with 4-6 mm deep periodontal pockets at least in three quadrants (with no alveolar bony defect amenable to respective or regenerative osseous surgery, as seen in orthopantomograph) were selected for the trial. One week after phase I therapy, 10% absorbable chip of neem (commercially prepared by staff of a pharmacy college, Sheriguda, India) was placed in the periodontal pocket on one site, and soft tissue diode laser pocket sterilization was performed on the other site of the arch. Remaining one site was considered as a control. Parameters recorded clinically were plaque index (PI), papillary bleeding index (PBI), probing pocket depth (PPD), and relative attachment level (RAL) measured at baseline, 21st day, and one month postoperatively. Results. Statistically significant improvements were observed in all clinical parameters at one month as compared to baseline for both treatment groups. Conclusion. Neem chip supplemented with phase I therapy showed best improvement in clinical parameters followed by laser supplemented with phase I therapy in comparison to phase I therapy alone at one month follow-up. Clinical Significance. Neem chips are nature's products, affordable without side effects, with a potential to be used as a local drug delivery agent in treating moderate chronic periodontitis

    Microstructure and phase stability of suspension high velocity oxy-fuel sprayed yttria stabilised zirconia coatings from aqueous and ethanol based suspensions

    Two commercial 7-8 wt.% Yttria Stabilised Zirconia (YSZ) suspensions were sprayed by Suspension High Velocity Oxy Fuel (SHVOF) thermal spraying for advanced high temperature coatings. Heat treatments of the free-standing coatings were conducted at 800 °C and 1000 °C for 72 h. The SHVOF coatings using two liquid carriers: water and ethanol, behaved differently in terms of micro-structure and phase stability. The ethanol coatings retained a fully tetragonal composition after heat treatments; while the aqueous coatings, however, underwent the undesirable tetragonal to monoclinic phase transformation at 1000 °C, which is lower than previously reported temperatures (>1200 °C) in thermal sprayed YSZ coatings. The heat treatments not only resulted in densification of both coatings, but also caused excessive crystallite growth in aqueous coatings promoting the undesirable phase transformation. On the contrary, the ethanol suspension improved the phase stability by favouring the homogenization of yttrium during spraying

    Hybrid suspension/solution precursor plasma spraying of a complex Ba(Mg1/3Ta2/3)O3 perovskite: Effects of processing parameters and precursor chemistry on phase formation and decomposition

    Abstract: Ba(Mg1/3Ta2/3)O3 (BMT) has a high melting point and is envisioned as a thermal barrier coating material. In this study, a hybrid suspension/solution precursor plasma spray process with a radio frequency thermal plasma torch is designed to deposit BMT nanostructured coatings. Six combinations of chemical reagents are investigated as coating precursors: one BMT powder suspension and five Ta2O5 suspensions in nitrate- or acetate-based solutions. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy is used to evaluate the element evaporation during plasma spraying, while a thermogravimetric/differential thermal analysis is applied to investigate the BMT formation. Parameters such as precursor chemistry, plasma power, spraying distance and substrate preheating are studied with regard to the coating phase structure. Twice the Mg stoichiometric amount with a power of 50 kW shows the best results when using nanocrystallized Ta2O5 as a tantalum precursor. When choosing nitrates as Ba and Mg precursors, crystallized BMT is obtained at lower plasma power (45 kW) when compared to acetates (50 kW). BaTa2O6, Ba3Ta5O15, Ba4Ta2O9, Mg4Ta2O9 are the main secondary phases observed during the BMT coatings deposition. Because of the complicated acetate decomposition process, the coating deposition rate from nitrate precursors is 1.56 times higher than that from acetate precursors

    Simulation of viscoelastic flows of polymer solutions in abrupt contractions using an Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) based finite element method

    We present a method for simulation of viscoelastic flows using an Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) technique based finite element formulation. The ALE technique provides advantages of both Lagrangian and Eulerian frameworks by allowing the computational mesh to move in an arbitrary manner, independent of the material motion. In the present method, a fractional step ALE technique is employed in which the Lagrangian phase of material motion and convection arising out of mesh motion are decoupled. In the first step the relevant flow and constitutive equations are solved in Lagrangian framework. The simpler representation of polymer constitutive equations in a Lagrangian framework avoids the difficulties associated with convective terms thereby resulting in a robust numerical formulation. In the second step the mesh is moved in ALE mode and the associated convection of the stress is performed using a Godunov type scheme. This ALE technique is easy to implement and can accurately simulate the complex viscoelastic behaviour of transient polymer flow through complex geometries. In the present study, steady flows through abrupt contractions of planar and axisymmetric geometries are studied by performing transient flow simulations until steady state is achieved. The proposed method is validated with previously published numerical and experimental studies for polymer solutions obeying the Oldroyd B and Phan Thien Tanner (PTT) models. The simulated corner and lip vortex enhancement mechanism and flow behavior are in good agreement with experimentally obtained flow visualization photographs. The strength of the proposed method lies in its ability to simulate free surface flows such as swell.© Elsevie
