Valores de referência para testes diagnósticos oftálmicos em arara canindé (Ara ararauna) e papagaio verdadeiro (Amazona aestiva)

Tese (doutorado)—Universidade de Brasília, Faculdade de Agronomia e Veterinária, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Saúde Animal, 2015.Objetivou-se determinar os valores normais para testes oftálmicos diagnósticos selecionados para Arara Canindé e Papagaio Verdadeiro. Trinta e cinco Ara ararauna (70 olhos) e trinta Amazona aestiva (60 olhos), machos e fêmeas, provenientes de cativeiro credenciado no Distrito Federal, foram utilizadas. O teste de Lacrimal de Schirmer (TLS) médio foi de 7,65 ± 4,57 OD e 6,57 ± 4,37 mm/min OE nas araras e o teste lacrimal de schirmer modificado (TLSm) nos papagaios foi de 6,37 ± 3,8 OD e OE 6,50 ± 4,3 mm/min. O diâmetro horizontal da fissura palpebral foi de 11,67 ± 0,078 mm OD e de 11,78 ± 0,095 OE para araras, e de 10,09 ± 1,02 mm OD e de 10,17 ± 0,79 OE nos papagaios. O TLS pelo teste Pearson apresentou correlação positiva com a medição da fissura palpebral para ambas as espécies estudadas. A pressão intraocular média foi de 11,34 ± 2,53 mmHg para OD anteriormente à anestesia e de 7,65 ± 2,37 mmHg após a anestesia e no OE 11,65 ± 1,78 e de 7,77 ± 1,78 mmHg nas araras, apresentado uma diferença estatística significativa entre as mensurações antes e após a anestesia. Nos papagaios, a PIO média foi de 6,31 ± 1,7 mmHg OD e de 6,13 ± 1,97 no OE. Em nosso estudo 84,15% das amostras analisadas são positivas para crescimento microbiológico, sendo que 56,10 % apresentaram crescimento bacteriano, 10% fungos e 17 %leveduras. Este estudo contribuiu para o estabelecimento de valores de referência para testes de diagnósticos oftálmicas importantes nas espécies estudadas.This study aimed to determine the normal values for selected ophthalmic diagnostic tests for Macaws (Ara ararauna) and Parrot (Amazon aestiva). Thirty-five Ara ararauna (70 eyes) and thirty Amazon aestiva (60 eyes), male and female, from captivity accredited in the Federal District, were used. The Schirmer Tear Test (STT) average was 7.65 ± 4.57 in the right eyes and 6.57 ± 4.37 mm / min in the left eyes on macaws and on the parrots STTm in the right eyes was 6.37 ± 3.8 and in the left eyes was 6.50 ± 4.3 mm / min. The horizontal diameter of the eyelids rhyme was 11.67 ± 0.078 mm in right eyes and 11.78 ± 0.095 in left eyes on macaws, and 10.09 ± 1.02 mm in right eyes and 10.17 ± 0.79 in left eyes, in parrots .The STT by Pearson test showed a positive correlation with the measurement of palpebral fissure for both studied species. The average intraocular pressure was 11.34 ± 2.53 mm Hg for right eyes prior to anesthesia and 7.65 ± 2.37 mm Hg after anesthesia and for left eyes was 11.65 ± 1.78, on the macaws, presented a statistically significant difference between the measurements before and after anesthesia. On parrots the average IOP was 6.31 ± 1.7 mm Hg in the right eyes and 6.13 ± 1.97 in the left eyes. In our study 84.15% of samples are positive for microbial growth, of which 56.10% had bacterial growth, 10% fungi and 17% yeasts. This study contributed to the establishment of benchmarks for testing of important ophthalmic diagnoses in the studied species

Fossil Whales from the Azores

1st Atlantic Island Neogene International Congress, São Miguel, Azores, Portugal, 12-14 June 2006.Os Açores são bem conhecidos pela sua rica fauna de cetáceos actuais. Menos conhecida, no entanto, é a ocorrência de fósseis de baleias do Neogénico superior em Santa Maria, a única ilha deste arquipélago vulcânico com registo sedimentar significativo. Este trabalho consiste numa revisão do escasso registo fóssil de cetáceos de Santa Maria, incluindo as ocorrências históricas há muito citadas na literatura, bem como outras mais recentes, ainda não publicadas. Todas as 10 ocorrências presentemente reconhecidas provêm do Complexo do Touril, uma unidade sedimentar essencialmente marinha que foi datada, no conjunto, do Messiniano-Zancliano (» 6.0-4.8 Ma). Além de alguns restos menos completos, tentativamente atribuídos apenas a Cetacea indet., os espécimes mais significativos pertencem a grupos maioritariamente pelágicos, que vivem tipicamente em águas oceânicas profundas e abertas (Mesoplodon sp. e ? Balaenopteridae indet.). Na iminência de mais descobertas, os cetáceos do Neogénico superior dos Açores podem vir a revelar-se bastante importantes no estabelecimento de correlações paleobiogeográficas no âmbito do Atlântico Norte, quer devido à localização estratégica do arquipélago quer devido à raridade, nesta região, das associações de cetáceos conhecidas deste intervalo estratigráfico.ABSTRACT: The Azores are well-renowned for their rich fauna of living cetaceans. Less known, however, is the occurrence of Late Neogene fossils of whales in Santa Maria, the only island in this volcanic archipelago with a significant sedimentary record. This work reviews the scarce fossil record of cetaceans from Santa Maria, including both the historical occurrences long cited in the literature, and more recent ones, as yet unpublished. All 10 occurrences currently recognized originate from Touril Complex, an essentially marine sedimentary unit that has been dated, as a whole, from the Messinian-Zanclean (» 6.0-4.8 Ma). Apart from a few scrappy remains, tentatively assigned only to Cetacea indet., the more significant specimens belong to groups that are mostly pelagic and typical inhabitants of deep and open ocean waters (Mesoplodon sp. and ? Balaenopteridae indet.). Pending further discoveries, the Late Neogene cetaceans from the Azores may prove quite relevant in the establishment of palaeobiogeographic correlations within the North Atlantic, due both to the strategic mid-oceanic location of the archipelago and the rarity of cetacean associations known from the sampled interval in this region

GESTÃO DE UMA UNIDADE UNIVERSITÁRIA: A FACULDADE DE CIÊNCIAS E LETRAS – UNESP/CAMPUS ASSIS

A discussão sobre Administração Universitária assume um papel cada vez mais amplo entre as Instituições de Ensino Superior brasileiras. Esse debate acompanha a história da Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP) que, nos últimos anos, passou por profundas transformações na maneira de conduzir a administração de suas atividades, em vista da consolidação e qualidade de seus programas de ensino de graduação e pós-graduação. A UNESP, que possui um formato multicampi com 34 Unidades distribuídas entre 24 cidades do Estado de São Paulo/Brasil, mais recentemente, deixando de lado uma tradição empiricista, criou um Plano de Desenvolvimento Institucional (PDI), com metas de curto, médio e longo prazo, que passaram a orientar seus programas, ações e respectivos investimentos. Objetivando relatar de forma mais aprofundada este processo, descreveremos a apreensão do PDI pela Faculdade de Ciências e Letras de Assis, uma das Unidades da UNESP

Explosion of differentiability for equivalencies between Anosov flows on 3-manifolds

For Anosov flows obtained by suspensions of Anosov diffeomor- phisms on surfaces, we show the following type of rigidity result: if a topolog- ical conjugacy between them is differentiable at a point, then the conjugacy has a smooth extension to the suspended 3-manifold. Value focused approach to information systems risk management

Information Systems (IS) risk management is a challenge to every organization, in that they are exposed to cyber-attacks that bypass physical barriers. Organizations increase online business in order to remain competitive, but as a consequence their online exposure becomes greater. However their risk management practices and governance are inadequate in the face of increasing new threats and vulnerabilities. This paper presents a Multi- Objective Decision Model for assessing Information Systems Risks. The decision model is based on the values and perceptions of stakeholders. It uses the Value-Focused Thinking approach, as opposed to the predominant Alternative-Focused Thinking. The Transport-Ticket System in Brazil for Urban Public Transport

The transport-ticket system in Brazil for urban public transport was implanted on 1987, in the big cities. By the system, the employers must to supply their employees with sufficient amount of tickets, to facilitate their diary translation from home to office. Since their implantation, the system facilitates the maintenance of the urban public transport quality and permits the normal fulfilment of the urban economic activity. Meanwhile, the system means a large allowance, from the firms and employers to the urban bus companies, partially compensated by the income tax depression. The effect of 2-butyl-cyanoacrylate adhesive in osteotomies and bone grafts in rabbits: macroscopic and radiographic characteristics

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of butyl-2-cyanoacrylate tissue adhesive in osteotomies and bone grafts, with regard to macroscopic and radiographic characteristics. METHODS: Forty-eight rabbits were used, randomly divided into four groups of 12 animals, with observation periods of two, four, eight and 16 weeks. Both thoracic limbs were operated in each animal and two osteotomies were performed in each of the radii, withdrawing a bone fragment (bone graft) of 1 cm in length. On one side, the bone graft was then replaced and a drop of adhesive was applied to each of the osteotomies. On the other side, the same procedure was performed without applying the adhesive. The rejection level for the nullity hypothesis was set at 0.05% or 5%. RESULTS: Blue marks were present in all the surgical specimens in which adhesive was applied. From the fourth week onwards, there was absence of movement of the bone grafts with adhesive and control. In group A, in the proximal osteotomies with adhesive, there was less deviation of the bone graft (p = 0.02). In group C, the union (p = 0.03) and the integration of the bone graft (p = 0.02) were better in the proximal osteotomies with adhesive. CONCLUSIONS: The adhesive was not completely metabolized within 16 weeks. There was clinical consolidation of the osteotomies within four weeks. The adhesive stabilized the bone graft within the first weeks and did not interfere with the consolidation of the osteotomies, or the integration of the bone graft in radiographic observations.OBJETIVO: Avaliar o efeito do adesivo tecidual butil-2-cianoacrilato em osteotomias e enxerto ósseo (EO), sob o aspecto macroscópico e radiográfico. MÉTODOS: Foram utilizados 48 coelhos, divididos aleatoriamente em quatro grupos de 12 animais, com períodos de observação de duas, quatro, oito e 16 semanas. Foram operados os dois membros torácicos de cada animal e realizadas duas osteotomias em cada um dos rádios, com a retirada de um fragmento ósseo (EO) de 1cm de comprimento. De um lado foi recolocado o EO no local e aplicada uma gota do adesivo em cada uma das osteotomias. No outro lado, foi realizado o mesmo procedimento sem a aplicação do adesivo. Fixou-se em 0,05 ou 5% o nível de rejeição da hipótese de nulidade. RESULTADOS: Presença de marcas azuis em todas as peças cirúrgicas em que foi utilizado o adesivo. A partir da quarta semana, ausência de movimento dos EO com adesivo e controle. No grupo A, nas osteotomias proximais com adesivo, ocorreu menos desvio do EO (p = 0,02). No grupo C, a união (p = 0,03) e a integração do EO (p = 0,02) foram melhores nas osteotomias proximais com adesivo. CONCLUSÕES: O adesivo não foi totalmente metabolizado com 16 semanas. Há consolidação clínica das osteotomias em quatro semanas. New framework for infrastructure risk management affected by extreme natural events

The present presentation aims at showing an overview of the project Strengthening Infrastructure Risk Management in the Atlantic Area (SIRMA). In fact, most of the transportation of people and goods in this region is made through rail and road infrastructures. Their performance is directly affected by extreme natural events and by the strong corrosion processes that result from proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. SIRMA project aims to develop a robust framework for the management and mitigation of such risks, by implementing immediate, medium and long-term measures, and therefore to increase the resilience of transportation infrastructure. The project core is on long-term recovery and risk mitigation to reduce maintenance and retrofitting costs. This objective will be obtained by adjusting existing deterministic models of infrastructure resilience under the current climate, with probabilistic models considering the uncertainties of future climate and change on the land use and how it affects hazard impact on individual mode components. Thus, probabilistic models will allow for a better adaptation of infrastructure to climate change and consider the uncertainties to develop adequate predictive policies and planning tools to reduce risks of hazards

Soberania, vontade geral e revolução: entre Jean Jacques Rousseau e Hannah Arendt

Neste texto, discute-se os conceitos de vontade geral e de soberania em Jean-Jacques Rousseau visando realizar um breve contraponto com a leitura contemporânea de Hannah Arendt no tocante a influência destes conceitos no desenvolvimento da Revolução Francesa. Para tanto, parte-se do livro O Contrato Social (1996) de Jean Jacques-Rousseau e Da revolução (1990) de Hannah Arendt, no qual há uma leitura crítica que incide sobre as apropriações das ideias rousseaunianas de soberania e vontade geral por parte dos revolucionários franceses. Com esse percurso, visa-se iluminar alguns temas e problemas rousseanianos, e a partir do contraste com a compreensão arendtiana do termo revolução e de ideal democrático, explicitar como se define a visão arendtiana de revolução e, por conseguinte, de lierdade
