    A novel switched model predictive control of wind turbines using artificial neural network-Markov chains prediction with load mitigation

    The existing model predictive control algorithm based on continuous control using quadratic programming is currently one of the most used modern control strategies applied to wind turbines. However, heavy computational time involved and complexity in implementation are still obstructions in existing model predictive control algorithm. Owing to this, a new switched model predictive control technique is developed for the control of wind turbines with the ability to reduce complexity while maintaining better efficiency. The proposed technique combines model predictive control operating on finite control set and artificial intelligence with reinforcement techniques (Markov Chains, MC) to design a new effective control law which allows to achieve the control objectives in different wind speed zones with minimization of computational complexity. The proposed method is compared with the existing model predictive control algorithm, and it has been found that the proposed algorithm is better in terms of computational time, load mitigation, and dynamic response. The proposed research is a forward step towards refining modern control techniques to achieve optimization in nonlinear process control using novel hybrid structures based on conventional control laws and artificial intelligence.© 2021 THE AUTHORS.     In this paper a human-robot physical interaction system with purposes of diagnosis and rehabilitation of upper limb is proposed.Anunderactuatedhaptic device with six degrees of freedom is used, with low inertia and low joint friction.Adaptive control technique is used for passive haptic guidance and active exploration, in order to compensate the dynamic uncertainty of the human operator in the loop.To validate the experimental platform, a procedure is established with three steps: i) knowledge of the haptic interface (interaction with the kinematic virtual environment), ii) navigation in a virtual pipe with changes in the geometric characteristics (verification of position, velocity, collisions and runtime), and iii) haptic guidance in a structured path based on a clinical protocol (study of convergence and energy).Environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, lighting and noise are characterizedwith purposes to define experimental conditions.In this work, we assess based on the NASA-TLX protocol,the workload perception of simple temporal-spatial tasks

This approach is called CICA GRID and it provides service to research community in the Scientific Computer Centre of Andalusia (CICA).     In situ chemical modification of C–S–H induced by CO2 laser irradiation

Calcium silicate hydrate (C–S–H) gel, the main product of cement hydration, dehydrates at 25–200 °C, while temperatures of 850–900 °C alter its structure. A Raman spectroscopic study of the amorphous and crystalline phases forming after CO2 laser radiation of cement mortar showed that C–S–H dehydration yielded tricalcium silicate at higher, and dicalcium silicate at lower, temperatures.     Methodology for the Optimal Design of a Hybrid Charging Station of Electric and Fuel Cell Vehicles Supplied by Renewable Energies and an Energy Storage System

    The global energy system is changing, mainly to achieve sustainable transport technologies and clean electrical generation based on renewable sources. Thus, as fuels, electricity and hydrogen are the most promising transport technologies in order to reduce greenhouse emissions. On the other hand, photovoltaic and wind energies, including energy storage, have become the main sources of distributed generation. This study proposes a new optimal-technical sizing method based on the Simulink Design Optimization of a stand-alone microgrid with renewable energy sources and energy storage to provide energy to a wireless power transfer system to charge electric vehicles along a motorway and to a hydrogen charging station for fuel cell-powered buses. The results show that the design system can provide energy for the charging of electric vehicles along the motorway and produce the hydrogen consumed by the fuel cell-buses plus a certain tank reserve. The flexibility of the study allows the analysis of other scenarios, design requirements, configurations or types of microgrids

    Novel Improved Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Control of Inverter and Supervisory Energy Management System of a Microgrid

    In this paper, energy management and control of a microgrid is developed through supervisor and adaptive neuro-fuzzy wavelet-based control controllers considering real weather patterns and load variations. The supervisory control is applied to the entire microgrid using lower-top level arrangements. The top-level generates the control signals considering the weather data patterns and load conditions, while the lower level controls the energy sources and power converters. The adaptive neuro-fuzzy wavelet-based controller is applied to the inverter. The new proposed wavelet-based controller improves the operation of the proposed microgrid as a result of the excellent localized characteristics of the wavelets. Simulations and comparison with other existing intelligent controllers, such as neuro-fuzzy controllers and fuzzy logic controllers, and classical PID controllers are used to present the improvements of the microgrid in terms of the power transfer, inverter output efficiency, load voltage frequency, and dynamic response

    Estimating tremor in Vocal Fold Biomechanics for Neurological Disease characterisation

    Neurological Diseases (ND) are affecting larger segments of aging population every year. Treatment is dependent on expensive accurate and frequent monitoring. It is well known that ND leave correlates in speech and phonation. The present work shows a method to detect alterations in vocal fold tension during phonation. These may appear either as hypertension or as cyclical tremor. Estimations of tremor may be produced by auto-regressive modeling of the vocal fold tension series in sustained phonation. The correlates obtained are a set of cyclicality coefficients, the frequency and the root mean square amplitude of the tremor. Statistical distributions of these correlates obtained from a set of male and female subjects are presented. Results from five study cases of female voice are also given

    ALBAYZIN 2018 spoken term detection evaluation: a multi-domain international evaluation in Spanish

    [Abstract] Search on speech (SoS) is a challenging area due to the huge amount of information stored in audio and video repositories. Spoken term detection (STD) is an SoS-related task aiming to retrieve data from a speech repository given a textual representation of a search term (which can include one or more words). This paper presents a multi-domain internationally open evaluation for STD in Spanish. The evaluation has been designed carefully so that several analyses of the main results can be carried out. The evaluation task aims at retrieving the speech files that contain the terms, providing their start and end times, and a score that reflects the confidence given to the detection. Three different Spanish speech databases that encompass different domains have been employed in the evaluation: the MAVIR database, which comprises a set of talks from workshops; the RTVE database, which includes broadcast news programs; and the COREMAH database, which contains 2-people spontaneous speech conversations about different topics. We present the evaluation itself, the three databases, the evaluation metric, the systems submitted to the evaluation, the results, and detailed post-evaluation analyses based on some term properties (within-vocabulary/out-of-vocabulary terms, single-word/multi-word terms, and native/foreign terms). Fusion results of the primary systems submitted to the evaluation are also presented. Three different research groups took part in the evaluation, and 11 different systems were submitted.     SAFARI optical system architecture and design concept

    SpicA FAR infrared Instrument, SAFARI, is one of the instruments planned for the SPICA mission. The SPICA mission is the next great leap forward in space-based far-infrared astronomy and will study the evolution of galaxies, stars and planetary systems. SPICA will utilize a deeply cooled 2.5m-class telescope, provided by European industry, to realize zodiacal background limited performance, and high spatial resolution. The instrument SAFARI is a cryogenic grating-based point source spectrometer working in the wavelength domain 34 to 230 μm, providing spectral resolving power from 300 to at least 2000. The instrument shall provide low and high resolution spectroscopy in four spectral bands. Low Resolution mode is the native instrument mode, while the high Resolution mode is achieved by means of a Martin-Pupplet interferometer. The optical system is all-reflective and consists of three main modules; an input optics module, followed by the Band and Mode Distributing Optics and the grating Modules. The instrument utilizes Nyquist sampled filled linear arrays of very sensitive TES detectors. The work presented in this paper describes the optical design architecture and design concept compatible with the current instrument performance and volume design drivers
