BackgroundWe describe the results from the questionnaire of Tuncel concerning the behaviour of university teachers, since university students believe they have influenced their academic achievement.AimsThe objective of this study was to reveal which behaviours of university teachers were most appreciated by the students in the first year of the studies taught at the Faculty of Health Sciences of Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid (Degrees in Medicine, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Dentistry, Psychology and Occupational Therapy). Methods 540 first-year students from the Health Sciences degree participated. An exploratory factor analysis of the items was performed and the internal consistency was studied using Cronbach’s alpha.ResultsStudents placed the most importance on the following areas: “Emotional aptitude of the university teacher”, “University teacher-student interaction”, “Achievement of teaching objectives”, “Connection between the teaching of theory and practical components”, “Organization and planning of teaching” and “Correct students and providing them with information on their progress and evolution”. It should be noted that affective factors and the relationship and close interaction with students were the areas most demanded and valued by the students.ConclusionMaking the teaching process more effective is an important goal of educational research. But few researchers take into account the point of view of the students and are primarily involved in determining the behaviour of university teachers. Therefore our aim in this study was to find out their opinions. We wanted to know which attitudes are the most valued by students of the Rey Juan Carlos University (Madrid, Spain) studying for degrees in the health sciences program. Once identified, we will be able to use this information to identify teaching strategies that could improve the minimum academic requirements of the university

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Hip arthroplasties is one of the most frequent surgical procedures in Spain and are conducted mainly in elderly subjects. We aim to analyze changes in incidence, co-morbidity profile, length of hospital stay (LOHS), costs and in-hospital mortality (IHM) of patients undergoing primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) over an 8-year study period in Spain.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>We selected all surgical admissions in individuals aged ≥40 years who had received a primary THA (ICD-9-CM procedure code 81.51) between 2001 and 2008 from the National Hospital Discharge Database. Age- and sex-specific incidence rates, LOHS, costs and IHM were estimated for each year. Co-morbidity was assessed using the Charlson comorbidity index.</p> <p>Multivariate analysis of time trends was conducted using Poisson regression. Logistic regression models were conducted to analyze IHM.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>We identified a total of 161,791 discharges of patients having undergone THA from 2001 to 2008. Overall crude incidence had increased from 99 to 105 THA per 100.000 inhabitants from 2001 to 2008 (p < 0.001). In 2001, 81% of patients had a Charlson Index of 0, 18.4% of 1-2, and 0.6% > 2 and in 2008, the prevalence of 1-2 or >2 had increased to 20.4% and 1.1% respectively (p < 0.001). The mean LOHS was 13 days in 2001 and decreased to 10.45 days in 2008 (p < 0.001). During the period studied, the mean cost per patient increased from 6,634 to 9,474 Euros. Multivariate analysis shows that from 2001 to 2008 the incidence of THA hospitalizations has significantly increased for both sexes and only men showed a significant reduction in IHM after THA.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The current study provides clear and valid data indicating increased incidence of primary THA in Spain from 2001 to 2008 with concomitant reductions in LOHS, slight reduction IHM, but a significant increase in cost per patient. The health profile of the patient undergoing a THA seems to be worsening in Spain.</p

It´s disturbing to think about the idea that the teacher can lead a student to achieve great successes or, on the contrary, beat him academically. It´s for this reason that it´s necessary to explore the behavior of teaching professionals, from the point of view of the student, to know which ones they consider that will impact positively on their academic success. In order to this, a sample of 486 pupils from grades Primary Education Teachers (199) and Primary (287) in the Faculty of Education of Albacete (University of Castilla La Mancha) Education was analized. A questionnaire (Tuncel, 2009) (from few questions and the type of response ) was applied and, using a Factor Analysis Exploratory, there were found six dimensions to which the students gave the highest importance: "Emotional aptitude of teachers " ; " Teacher-student interaction " ; " Achieving the goals of education" , "Connecting between teaching of theory and practices " ; "Planning and organization of teaching " ; "Correct and provide information to students about their advance and progress."

Actualidades y potencial

    Get PDF

The purpose of this research is to develop practical, evidence-based interventions to prevent and treat anxiety, considering demographic differences and specific challenges. To achieve this objective, we conducted a narrative literature review in academic databases, such as PubMed, Scopus, SciELO, Virtual Health Library, Lilacs and Google Scholar. The inclusion criteria cover works published in the last 10 years, free of charge, available in full and related to the proposed theme. On the other hand, the exclusion criteria include works published outside the selected period, repeated, unrelated to the proposed theme and incomplete. In data analysis, 50 articles were read in full, in addition to consulting 2 websites to obtain epidemiological data. Of these, only 5 were included in the study. The theoretical framework was organized into distinct topics, providing a solid basis for the analysis of anxiety. These topics covered psychological theories that explore its origins and manifestations, biological factors that influence its development, and a variety of effective interventions in managing and treating this complex phenomenon. By approaching each topic separately, it was possible to examine in detail the multiple facets of anxiety , providing a clearer and more comprehensive view of this relevant topic. The research highlighted a growing concern about anxiety disorders, compounded by sociocultural pressures and contemporary challenges. This encompasses the incessant search for validation on social networks, as well as in the family and social spheres, generating increasing uncertainty in relation to social approval and the paradigms established in society.O propósito desta pesquisa é desenvolver intervenções práticas, embasadas em evidências, com o intuito de prevenir e tratar a ansiedade, considerando as diferenças demográficas e os desafios específicos.

Host adaptive immunity deficiency in severe pandemic influenza

INTRODUCTION: Pandemic A/H1N1/2009 influenza causes severe lower respiratory complications in rare cases. The association between host immune responses and clinical outcome in severe cases is unknown. METHODS: We utilized gene expression, cytokine profiles and generation of antibody responses following hospitalization in 19 critically ill patients with primary pandemic A/H1N1/2009 influenza pneumonia for identifying host immune responses associated with clinical outcome. Ingenuity pathway analysis 8.5 (IPA) (Ingenuity Systems, Redwood City, CA) was used to select, annotate and visualize genes by function and pathway (gene ontology). IPA analysis identified those canonical pathways differentially expressed (P < 0.05) between comparison groups. Hierarchical clustering of those genes differentially expressed between groups by IPA analysis was performed using BRB-Array Tools v.3.8.1. RESULTS: The majority of patients were characterized by the presence of comorbidities and the absence of immunosuppressive conditions. pH1N1 specific antibody production was observed around day 9 from disease onset and defined an early period of innate immune response and a late period of adaptive immune response to the virus. The most severe patients (n = 12) showed persistence of viral secretion. Seven of the most severe patients died. During the late phase, the most severe patient group had impaired expression of a number of genes participating in adaptive immune responses when compared to less severe patients. These genes were involved in antigen presentation, B-cell development, T-helper cell differentiation, CD28, granzyme B signaling, apoptosis and protein ubiquitination. Patients with the poorest outcomes were characterized by proinflammatory hypercytokinemia, along with elevated levels of immunosuppressory cytokines (interleukin (IL)-10 and IL-1ra) in serum. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest an impaired development of adaptive immunity in the most severe cases of pandemic influenza, leading to an unremitting cycle of viral replication and innate cytokine-chemokine release. Interruption of this deleterious cycle may improve disease outcome. The study was scientifically sponsored by the Spanish Society for Critical Care Medicine (SEMICYUC).
